Proverbs 31

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The sayings of Lemuel king of Massa, taught him by his mother:	1 Parole del re Lamuele, visione colla quale lo istruì sua madre.
2 What, my son! What, son of my womb! What, son of my vows!	2 E che (dirti), o mio diletto? Che mai, o diletto del mio seno? Quale cosa, o diletto dei miei voti?
3 Do not expend your energy on women nor your wealth on those who ruin kings.	3 Non dare i tuoi boni alle donne, e le tue ricchezze a distruggere i re.
4 Not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings the drinking of wine, not for princes the love of liquor,	4 Non dare, o Lamuele, non dare il vino ai re; perchè non vi è segreto dove regna l'ebbrezza;
5 for fear that in liquor they forget what they have decreed and pervert the course of justice against allthe poor.	5 perchè forse dopo aver bevuto, dimentican la legge, e tradiscon la causa dei figli del povero.
6 Procure strong drink for someone about to die, wine for him whose heart is heavy:	6 Date la sicera agli afflitti, e il vino a quelli che hanno l'animo straziato.
7 let him drink and forget his misfortune, and remember his misery no more.	7 Che bevano e dimentichino la loro miseria, e non si ricordino più del loro dolere.
8 Make your views heard, on behalf of the dumb, on behalf of al the unwanted;	8 Apri la tua bocca in favore del muto e per difendere la causa di tutti i pellegrini.
9 make your views heard, pronounce an upright verdict, defend the cause of the poor and the wretched.	9 Apri la tua bocca, decreta ciò che è giusto, e rendi giustizia all'indigente e al povero.
10 The truly capable woman -- who can find her? She is far beyond the price of pearls.	10 La donna forte chi potrà trovarla? Più delle perle venute dall'estremità della terra essa vale,
11 Her husband's heart has confidence in her, from her he wil derive no little profit.	11 in lei confida il cuore del suo sposo e non mancheranno le ricchezze.
12 Advantage and not hurt she brings him al the days of her life.	12 Essa gli darà sempre gioie e mai dispiaceri per tutto il tempo della sua vita.
13 She selects wool and flax, she does her work with eager hands.	13 Essa, procuratasi della lana e del lino, li lavora colle sue mani capaci.
14 She is like those merchant vessels, bringing her food from far away.	14 Simile a nave mercantile, da lungi fa venire il suo vitto.
15 She gets up while it is stil dark giving her household their food, giving orders to her serving girls.	15 Alzandosi quando è ancor notte, distribuisce le porzioni ai suoi domestici, e il vitto alle sue ancelle.
16 She sets her mind on a field, then she buys it; with what her hands have earned she plants avineyard.	16 Adocchiato un campo l'acquista, col frutto del suo lavoro pianta una vigna.
17 She puts her back into her work and shows how strong her arms can be.	17 Essa cinge di forza i suoi fianchi e rende forte il suo braccio.
18 She knows that her affairs are going wel ; her lamp does not go out at night.	18 Avendo provato con gioia e veduto che il suo lavoro le frutta, non fa spegnere durante la notte la sua lucerna.
19 She sets her hands to the distaff, her fingers grasp the spindle.	19 Mette mano alta cose forti, e le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.
20 She holds out her hands to the poor, she opens her arms to the needy.	20 Apre la mano ai miseri e stende le palme ai bisognosi.
21 Snow may come, she has no fears for her household, with al her servants warmly clothed.	21 Non teme per la sua famiglia i freddi della neve, chè tutti i suoi domestici han doppi vestiti.
22 She makes her own quilts, she is dressed in fine linen and purple.	22 Si è fatta una veste ricamata, e il suo vestito è di bisso e di porpora.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gates, taking his seat among the elders of the land.	23 Rinomato è alle porte il suo marito, quando siede tra gli anziani del posto.
24 She weaves materials and sel s them, she supplies the merchant with sashes.	24 Essa fa dei finissimi tessuti e li vende, e delle cinture che dà al Cananeo.
25 She is clothed in strength and dignity, she can laugh at the day to come.	25 Vestita di fortezza e di decoro può andar lieta incontro all'avvenire.
26 When she opens her mouth, she does so wisely; on her tongue is kindly instruction.	26 Apre la sua bocca alla sapienza, e la legge della bontà è nella sua lingua.
27 She keeps good watch on the conduct of her household, no bread of idleness for her.	27 Sorveglia l'andamento della sua casa e non mangia il pane senza far nulla.
28 Her children stand up and proclaim her blessed, her husband, too, sings her praises:	28 Sorgono i suoi figli a proclamarla oltremodo felice e il suo marito la loda.
29 'Many women have done admirable things, but you surpass them all!'	29 « Molte figlie ammassarono ricchezze, ma tu le hai superate tutte ».
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty; the woman who fears Yahweh is the one to praise.	30 L'avvenenza è un inganno, la bellezza è un'ombra: la donna che teme il Signore, quella sarà lodata.
31 Give her a share in what her hands have worked for, and let her works tel her praises at the citygates.	31 Date a lei il frutto del suo lavoro, e le sue opere la lodino alle porte.
