1 Al the people then chose Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in succession to hisfather Amaziah.	1 Allora tutto il popolo di Giuda costituì re il suo figlio Ozia, di sedici anni, in luogo di Amasia suo padre.
2 It was he who rebuilt Elath, recovering it for Judah, after the king had fal en asleep with his ancestors.	2 Egli edificò Ailat e la riasso gettò a Giuda, dopo che il re si fu addormentato coi suoi padri.
3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for fifty-two years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.	3 Ozia aveva sedici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantadue anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Iechelia di Gerusalemme.
4 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, just as his father Amaziah had done;	4 Egli fece ciò che era giusto negli occhi del Si­gnore, secondo tutto quello che aveva fatto Amasia suo padre,
5 he consulted God throughout the lifetime of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. And aslong as he consulted Yahweh, God gave him success.	5 e cercò il Signore finché visse Zaccaria, uomo che intendeva e vedeva il Signore, e siccome cercò il Signore, il Signore lo diresse in tutto.
6 He went on campaign against the Philistines, demolished the wal s of Gath, the wal s of Jabneh andthe wal s of Ashdod, and built towns in the area of Ashdod and elsewhere in Philistine territory.	6 Infatti egli, uscito a combattere contro i Filistei, distrusse le mura di Get, quelle di Iabnia e le mura d'Azoto, e di più fabbricò dei castelli in Azoto e nel paese dei Filistei.
7 God helped him against the Philistines, the Arabs living at Gur-Baal and the Meunites.	7 Il Signore lo aiutò e contro i Filistei e contro gli Arabi che abitavano in Gurbaal e contro gli Ammoniti.
8 The Meunites paid tribute to Uzziah and his fame spread as far as the frontier of Egypt, since he keptgrowing stronger and stronger.	8 Gli Ammoniti pagavano il tributo a Ozia. Il suo nome si sparse fino all'Egitto a causa delle frequenti vittorie.
9 Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem, at the Corner Gate, at the Val ey Gate and at the Angle, and fortifiedthem.	9 Ozia costruì in Gerusalemme delle torri sopra la porta dell'angolo e sopra la porta della valle, e le altre sopra lo stesso lato delle mura, e le fortificò.
10 He built towers in the desert too, and dug many storage-wel s, for he had large herds in the lowlandsand on the tableland, and farmers and vine dressers in the hil s and fertile lands: for he loved the land.	10 Fece pure delle torri nel deserto, e scavò moltissime cisterne, avendo molti bestiami, tanto nelle campagne quanto nella vastità del deserto. Egli ebbe anche delle vigne e dei vignaioli sui monti e sul Carmelo, essendo un uomo molto dedito all'agricoltura.
11 Uzziah had a trained army ready to go on campaign, organised in companies manned as detailed bythe scribe Jeiel and the staff-officer Maaseiah, and commanded by Hananiah one of the king's generals.	11 L'esercito dei suoi com­battenti che andavano alla guerra, era sotto il segretario Iehiel, il dottore Maasia e Anania, che era uno dei capi dell'armata del re.
12 The heads of families of the military champions numbered in al two thousand six hundred.	12 Il numero completo dei prin­cipi, secondo le famiglie degli uomini di valore, era di due mila seicento.
13 Under them was an army of three hundred and seven thousand five hundred men ready for war, apowerful force to support the king against the enemy.	13 Tutto l'esercito che stava ai loro comandi era di trecentosette mila cinquecento uomini abili alla guerra e che com­battevano contro i nemici del re.
14 Uzziah provided shields, spears, helmets, armour, bows and sling-stones for the entire army.	14 Per tutti costoro, cioè per tutto l'esercito, Ozia fornì scudi, lance, elmi, corazze, archi e fìonde per scagliare sassi.
15 He also erected expertly contrived devices for the towers and angles of Jerusalem from which toshoot arrows and drop large stones. His fame spread far and wide, for he was miraculously helped to becomestrong.	15 In Gerusalemme fece delle macchine di varia specie, che collocò nelle torri e agli angoli delle mura per scagliar frecce e grosse pietre. Si sparse lontano la sua fama, perchè il Signore lo assisteva e gli dava vigore.
16 But once he was strong, his arrogance was such that it led to his downfall; he was unfaithful toYahweh his God by entering the Temple of Yahweh to burn incense on the altar of incense.	16 Ma quando giunse ad esser potente, il suo cuore s'insuperbì per sua rovina. Allora non fece più conto del Signore Dio suo, ed entrato nel tempio del Signore volle bruciar l'incenso sopra l'altare del profumo.
17 Azariah the priest with eight brave priests of Yahweh followed him in;	17 Entrati subito, dietro di lui, il sacerdote Azaria con ottanta sacerdoti del Signore, uomini fortissimi,
18 confronting King Uzziah, they said to him, 'Uzziah, you are not al owed to burn incense to Yahweh;only the Aaronite priests consecrated for the purpose may burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have beenunfaithful and wil have no honour from Yahweh God.'	18 si opposero al re e gli dissero: « Non spetta a te, Ozia, di bruciar l'incenso al Signore, ma ai sacerdoti, ai figli d'Aronne, che sono stati consacrati per tal ministero: esci dal santuario, non lo schernire, perchè ciò non ti ridonderà a gloria dinanzi al Si­gnore Dio ».
19 Uzziah, censer in hand to burn incense, flew into a rage. But while he was raging at the priests, avirulent skin-disease broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests, in the Temple of Yahweh, there bythe altar of incense.	19 Ma Ozia, pieno di sdegno, tenendo in mano un turibolo per bruciare l'incenso, minacciava i sacerdoti. Subito, in presenza dei sacerdoti, nella casa del Signore, presso l'altare del profumo, spuntò la lebbra sulla sua fronte.
20 When Azariah the chief priest and al the other priests turned towards him, there was skin-disease onhis forehead and they hurried him outside, and he himself was equal y anxious to get out, because Yahweh hadstruck him.	20 Il pontefice Azaria e tutti gli altri sacerdoti, quando, miratolo, videro la lebbra sulla fronte di lui, lo cacciarono subito. Ed egli stesso, atterrito, s'affrettò ad uscire, perchè aveva subito sentito il castigo del Si­gnore.
21 King Uzziah was afflicted with skin-disease til his dying day. Because of this, he lived confined to hisroom and was excluded from the Temple of Yahweh, while Jotham his son, who was master of the palace,governed the people of the country.	21 Così il re Ozia fu lebbroso fino alla morte, e dovè stare in una casa separata, pieno di quella lebbra a causa della quale era stato cacciato dalla casa del Signore; e Ioatam suo figlio governava la casa del re e giudicava il popolo.
22 The rest of the history of Uzziah, from first to last, has been written by the prophet Isaiah son ofAmoz.	22 Il resto delle gesta di Ozia, dalle prime alle ultime, lo scrisse il profeta Isaia, figlio di Amos.
23 Then Uzziah fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the field beside the burialground of the kings since, it was reasoned, he was afflicted with virulent skin-disease. His son Jotham thensucceeded him.	23 Ozia si addormentò coi suoi padri, e, perchè lebbroso, fu sepolto nel campo dei sepolcri reali, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Ioatam.
