1 Rehoboam then went to Shechem, al Israel having come to Shechem to proclaim him king.	1 Roboám ugyanis elment Szíchembe, mert ott gyűlt egybe egész Izrael, hogy őt királlyá tegye.
2 (As soon as Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news -- he was stil in Egypt, where he had taken refugefrom King Solomon -- he returned from Egypt.	2 Ám Jeroboám, Nábát fia, aki még Egyiptomban bujdosott Salamon király színe elől, értesült ennek haláláról, visszatért Egyiptomból.
3 They now sent for him, and Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came.) And they spoke asfol ows to Rehoboam,	3 El is küldtek hozzá és elhívatták. Elment tehát Jeroboám s Izrael egész sokasága és szóltak Roboámhoz, s azt mondták:
4 'Your father laid a cruel yoke on us; if you wil lighten your father's cruel slavery, that heavy yoke whichhe imposed on us, we are wil ing to serve you.'	4 »Apád igen kemény igát rakott ránk: nos, te könnyíts most egy kissé apád kemény uralmán s a súlyos igán, amelyet ránk rakott, s akkor mi szolgálni fogunk neked.«
5 He said to them, 'Go away for three days and then come back to me.' And the people went away.	5 Ő azt mondta nekik: »Menjetek el, s harmadnap majd térjetek vissza hozzám.« Amikor aztán a nép elment,
6 King Rehoboam then consulted the elders who had been in attendance on his father Solomon while hewas alive, and said, 'How do you advise me to answer this people?'	6 tanácsot tartott Roboám király a vénekkel, akik apjának, Salamonnak szolgálatában álltak, amikor még az élt, s azt mondta: »Mit tanácsoltok nekem, hogyan feleljek e népnek?«
7 They replied, 'If you become the servant of this people today, and submit to them and give them a fairreply, then they wil remain your servants for ever.'	7 Azok ezt mondták neki: »Ha engedsz ma e népnek és szolgálsz neki, s helyt adsz kérésüknek, s szelíd szóval szólsz hozzájuk, akkor ők szolgáid lesznek minden időben.«
8 But he rejected the advice given him by the elders and consulted the young men in attendance on him,who had grown up with him.	8 Ám ő figyelmen kívül hagyta a vének tanácsát, amelyet neki adtak, s az ifjakhoz fordult, akik vele nevelkedtek, s az ő szolgálatában álltak,
9 He said, 'How do you advise us to answer these people who have been saying, "Lighten the yokewhich your father imposed on us!"? '	9 s azt mondta nekik: »Mit tanácsoltok, hogyan feleljek e népnek, amely azt mondta nekem: ‘Tedd könnyebbé az igát, amelyet apád ránk rakott?’«
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, 'This is the way to answer these people whohave been saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, you must lighten it for us!" This is the right thing to say tothem, "My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.	10 Azt mondták erre neki az ifjak, akik vele nevelkedtek: »Ezt mondd a népnek, amely így szólt hozzád: ‘Apád súlyossá tette igánkat, te könnyíts rajtunk’ – ezt mondd nekik: Az én kisujjam vastagabb, mint apám dereka.
11 Although my father laid a heavy yoke on you, I shall make it heavier stil . My father controlled you withthe whip, but I shall apply a spiked lash!" '	11 Nos tehát: apám súlyos igát rakott rátok, de én még súlyosabbá teszem igátokat; apám ostorral vert titeket, én meg skorpióval foglak verni benneteket.«
12 On the third day Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam in obedience to the king'sinstruction: 'Come back to me in three days' time.'	12 Harmadnapon elment tehát Jeroboám s az egész nép Roboámhoz, miként a király meghagyta, amikor azt mondta: »Harmadnap térjetek vissza hozzám.«
13 And the king gave the people a harsh answer, rejecting the advice given him by the elders	13 Ekkor a király kemény feleletet adott a népnek, figyelmen kívül hagyta a vének tanácsát, amelyet neki adtak,
14 and speaking to them as the young men had recommended, 'My father made your yoke heavy, I shallmake it heavier stil ! My father control ed you with the whip, but I shall apply a spiked lash!'	14 s az ifjak tanácsa szerint szólt hozzájuk, s azt mondta: »Apám súlyossá tette igátokat, de én még súlyosabbá teszem igátokat; atyám ostorral vert titeket, én meg skorpióval foglak verni benneteket.«
15 Thus the king refused to listen to the people, and this was brought about by Yahweh to fulfil thepromise which he had made through Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam son of Nebat.	15 Nem hallgatta meg tehát a király a népet, mert az Úr elfordult tőle, hogy teljesítse szavát, amelyet a silói Ahiás által Jeroboámhoz, Nábát fiához intézett.
16 When al Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king thus: Whatshare have we in David? -No heritage in the son of Jesse! Away to your tents, Israel! Now look after your ownHouse, David! 17 Rehoboam, however, reigned over those Israelites who lived in the towns of Judah.	17 De Izrael azon fiain, akik Júda városaiban laktak, Roboám uralkodott. –
18 When King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was in charge of forced labour, all Israel stoned him todeath, while King Rehoboam managed to mount his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.	18 Erre Roboám király hozzájuk küldte Adurámot, a robotfelügyelőt, de azt egész Izrael halálra kövezte. Ekkor Roboám király sietve szekerére szállt, s Jeruzsálembe menekült.
19 And Israel has remained in rebel ion against the House of David from that day to this.	19 Így pártolt el Izrael Dávid házától mind a mai napig.
20 When al Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and madehim king of al Israel; no one remained loyal to the House of David, except the tribe of Judah.	20 Amikor aztán meghallotta egész Izrael Jeroboám visszatértét, az történt, hogy érte küldtek, s elhívták az összegyűlt gyülekezet elé, s egész Izrael királyává tették; Dávid házát senki sem követte az egy Júda törzsén kívül.
21 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem he mustered the whole House of Judah and the tribe ofBenjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors, to fight the House of Israel and win back the kingdomfor Rehoboam son of Solomon.	21 Amikor Roboám Jeruzsálembe érkezett, egybegyűjtötte Júda egész házát és Benjamin törzsét, száznyolcvanezer válogatott harcost, hogy harcba szálljanak Izrael házával, s így visszaszerezzék a királyságot Roboámnak, Salamon fiának.
22 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,	22 Ám az Úr szózatot intézett Semejához, az Isten emberéhez, ezekkel a szavakkal:
23 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, to the whole House of Judah, to Benjamin andto the rest of the people,	23 »Szólj Roboámhoz, Salamon fiához, Júda királyához s Júda meg Benjamin egész házához s a többi néphez, s mondd:
24 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers, the Israelites; let everyone go home,for this is my doing." ' They obeyed the command of Yahweh and turned back in accordance with his word.	24 Ezt üzeni az Úr: Ne vonuljatok fel, s ne szálljatok harcba testvéreitekkel, Izrael fiaival: térjen vissza mindenki a házába, mert tőlem eredt ez a dolog.« – Hallgattak is az Úr szavára, s visszatértek útjukról, amint az Úr parancsolta nekik.
25 Jeroboam fortified Shechem in the mountain country of Ephraim and made that his residence. Then,leaving there, he fortified Penuel.	25 Jeroboám pedig kiépíttette Szíchemet Efraim hegységén, s ott letelepedett. Majd kiköltözött onnan, s kiépíttette Fánuelt.
26 Jeroboam thought to himself, 'As things are, the kingdom wil revert to the House of David.	26 Jeroboám már most azt gondolta magában: »Még majd visszaszáll a királyság Dávid házára,
27 If this people continues to go up to the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem to offer sacrifices, thepeople's heart will turn back again to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah, and they wil put me to death.'	27 ha e nép feljár, hogy az Úr házában, Jeruzsálemben áldozzon; így urához, Roboámhoz, Júda királyához fordul e nép szíve, s engem megölnek, s visszatérnek hozzá.«
28 So the king thought this over and then made two golden calves; he said to the people, 'You havebeen going up to Jerusalem long enough. Here is your God, Israel, who brought you out of Egypt!'	28 Gondolkodott, s tanakodott tehát, s két aranyborjút készíttetett, s azt mondta a népnek: »Ne járjatok fel többé Jeruzsálembe: íme, itt vannak isteneid, Izrael, akik kihoztak téged Egyiptom földjéről.«
29 He set one up at Bethel,	29 Egyiket Bételben állíttatta fel, a másikat pedig Dánban;
30 and the people went in procession in front of the other one al the way to Dan. In Israel this gave riseto sin, for the people went to Bethel to worship the one, and all the way to Dan to worship the other.	30 lett is bűn ebből a dologból, mert a nép egészen Dánig, a borjút járt imádni.
31 He set up shrines on the high places and appointed priests from ordinary families, who were not oflevitical descent.	31 Majd magaslati templomokat építtetett, s papokat szerzett a köznépből, olyanokat, akik nem voltak Lévi fiai közül valók.
32 Jeroboam also instituted a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth of the month, like the feast keptin Judah, when he offered sacrifices on the altar. This he did at Bethel, offering sacrifices to the calves which hehad made and, at Bethel, instal ing the priests of the high places which he had set up.	32 Aztán ünnepet rendezett a nyolcadik hónapban, a hó tizenötödik napján, annak az ünnepnek a mintájára, amelyet Júdában szoktak ünnepelni és felment az oltárra – hasonlóképpen cselekedett Bételben –, hogy áldozzon a borjúknak, amelyeket készíttetett, s beiktatta Bételben azoknak a magaslatoknak a papjait, amelyeket alkottatott.
33 On the fifteenth of the eighth month, the month which he had chosen deliberately, he offeredsacrifices on the altar which he had made at Bethel; he instituted a feast for the Israelites and himself went up tothe altar to burn the sacrifice.	33 Felment tehát az oltárra, amelyet Bételben építtetett a nyolcadik hó tizenötödik napján, amelyet a maga szívéből koholt és ünnepet szerzett Izrael fiainak, s felment az oltárra, hogy illatot gyújtson.
