1 After this, the fol owing events took place. Absalom son of David had a beautiful sister whose namewas Tamar; Amnon son of David fel in love with her.	1 - In seguito avvenne che Amnon figlio di Davide amasse la sorella di Absalom, pur figlio di Davide, bellissima d'aspetto, di nome Tamar,
2 Amnon was so obsessed with his sister Tamar that it made him il , since she was a virgin and Amnonthought it impossible to do anything to her.	2 e ne era così invaghito da ammalarsi per amore di essa, tanto più che, essendo vergine, gli riusciva difficile di poter aver qualsiasi rapporto disonesto con lei.
3 But Amnon had a friend called Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab was a veryshrewd man.	3 Amnon aveva un amico di nome Jonadab figliuolo di Semmaa fratello di Davide, uomo assai scaltro.
4 'Son of the king,' he said, 'tel me why, morning after morning, you look so worn? Won't you tel me?'Amnon replied, 'I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.'	4 Questi gli disse: «Perchè vai tu di giorno in giorno dimagrando così, o figlio del re? Perchè non lo dici a me?». Gli rispose Amnon: «Amo Tamar, sorella di mio fratello Absalom».
5 Then Jonadab said, 'Take to your bed, pretend to be ill and, when your father comes to visit you, say,"Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat; let her prepare the food where I can see. Whatshe gives me I shal eat." '	5 Jonadab gli soggiunse: «Mettiti a letto e fingiti ammalato. Quando verrà tuo padre a visitarti gli dirai: - Lascia venire, te ne prego, Tamar mia sorella a darmi da mangiare; essa mi preparerà il cibo ed io lo prenderò dalla mano sua».
6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. The king then came to visit him and Amnon said to theking, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make a cake or two where I can watch. What she gives me, I shaleat.'	6 Si coricò adunque Amnon e cominciò a fingersi ammalato, e quando il re venne a visitarlo, Amnon disse al re: «Ti prego di far venire Tamar mia sorella a prepararmi in mia presenza due frittelle e io prenderò il cibo dalle mani sue».
7 David then sent word to Tamar at the palace, 'Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare somefood for him.'	7 Davide mandò dunque a casa di Tamar a dirle: «Vieni a casa di Amnon tuo fratello e dagli qualcosa da mangiare».
8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon who was lying there in bed. She took dough andkneaded it, and she made some cakes while he watched, and baked the cakes.	8 Venne Tamar in casa di Amnon suo fratello, che giaceva in letto, e presa della farina la stemperò e intrisala fece cuocere in presenza di lui le frittelle.
9 She then took the pan and dished them up in front of him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, 'Leteveryone leave me!' So everyone withdrew.	9 Preso poi quello che aveva fatto cuocere, lo versò e lo pose dinanzi a lui, ma Amnon non volle mangiare e disse: «Mandate via tutti di qui». Fatti uscire tutti,
10 Amnon then said to Tamar, 'Bring the food to the inner room, so that I can eat what you give me.' SoTamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in the inner room.	10 Amnon disse a Tamar: «Portami il cibo in camera, perchè lo prenda dalle tue mani». Tamar prese allora le frittelle preparate e le portò ad Amnon suo fratello nella camera;
11 And as she was offering the food to him, he caught hold of her and said, 'Come to bed with me,sister!'	11 ma mentre gli portava il cibo egli la prese e disse: «Vieni a coricarti con me, sorella mia».
12 She replied, 'No, brother! Do not force me! This is no way to behave in Israel. Do not do anything sodisgraceful!	12 Ma ella gli rispose: «No, fratello mio, non farmi violenza; non è lecita una tal cosa in Israele; non fare una simile pazzia.
13 Wherever should I go? I should be marked with this shame, while you would become disgraced inIsrael. Why not go and speak to the king? He wil not refuse to give me to you.'	13 Poichè io non potrei sopportare la mia vergogna e tu saresti come uno stolto in Israele; parlane piuttosto al re, ed egli non mi ti negherà».
14 But he would not listen to her; he overpowered her and raped her.	14 Non volle però arrendersi alle sue preghiere, ma essendo più forte di lei, le fece violenza e giacque con lei.
15 Amnon was then seized with extreme hatred for her; the hatred he now felt for her was greater thanhis earlier love. 'Get up and go!' he said.	15 Poi Amnon concepì una grande avversione contro di essa, tanto che l'odio che le portava era maggiore dell'amore col quale prima l'aveva amata; perciò le disse: «Levati e vattene».
16 She said, 'No, brother! To send me away would be worse than the other wrong you have done me!'But he would not listen to her.	16 Al che essa rispose: «È maggiore questo male che compi ora contro di me, cacciandomi, di quello che hai commesso prima». Ma egli non volle ascoltarla,
17 He cal ed his personal servant. 'Rid me of this woman!' he said. 'Throw her out and bolt the doorbehind her!'	17 anzi chiamato il servo, che lo assisteva, gli disse: «Caccia costei lungi da me e chiudile dietro la porta».
18 (She was wearing a magnificent dress, for this was what the king's unmarried daughters wore indays gone by.) So the servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.	18 Essa era vestita di una tunica talare, quale solevano portare le vergini figlie del re. Il servo la cacciò adunque fuori, e le chiuse dietro la porta.
19 Tamar put dust on her head, tore the magnificent dress which she was wearing, laid her hand on herhead, and went away, crying aloud as she went.	19 Ed essa coprendosi di cenere il capo, stracciatasi la tunica talare, tenendosi ambedue le mani sul capo, se ne andava innanzi gridando.
20 Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? Sister, be quiet; he is yourbrother; do not take the matter to heart!' Tamar, however, went back to her brother Absalom's houseinconsolable.	20 Absalom suo fratello le disse: «Amnon tuo fratello, ti fece forse violenza? Ma ora, sorella, taci: è tuo fratello: non affliggerti per questo». Se ne rimase adunque Tamar a struggersi nella casa di suo fratello.
21 When King David heard the whole story, he was very angry; but he had no wish to harm his sonAmnon, whom he loved because he was his first-born.	21 Quando poi il re Davide seppe l'accaduto, si rattristò grandemente, ma non volle contristare l'animo di Amnon suo figliuolo, poichè lo amava, essendo il suo primogenito.
22 Absalom, however, would not so much as speak to Amnon, since he hated Amnon for having rapedhis sister Tamar.	22 Absalom invece non parlò ad Amnon nè in bene nè in male, poichè lo odiava per aver violato Tamar sua sorella.
23 Two years later, when Absalom had the sheep-shearers at Baal-Hazor, which is near Ephraim, heinvited al the king's sons.	23 Ora avvenne che trascorso un biennio Absalom dovea tosare le pecore in Baalasor, che è vicino ad Efraim, e Absalom invitò tutti i figli del re.
24 Absalom went to the king and said, 'Now sir, your servant has the sheep-shearers. Wil the king andhis retinue be pleased to come with your servant?'	24 Si presentò anche al re e gli disse: «Ecco, si tosano le pecore del tuo servo; venga, te ne prego, il re coi suoi servi a casa del servo suo».
25 'No, my son,' the king replied, 'we must not al come and be a burden to you.' And though Absalomwas insistent, he would not go but dismissed him.	25 Rispose il re ad Absalom: «No, figlio mio, non pregare che veniamo tutti ad esserti di peso». E benchè Absalom insistesse per costringerlo, il re non volle andare, ma gli diede la sua benedizione.
26 Absalom persisted, 'Then at least let my brother Amnon come with us.' The king said, 'Why should hego with you?'	26 Allora Absalom disse: «Se tu non vuoi venire, venga con noi, te ne prego, almeno Amnon mio fratello». Il re gli rispose: «Non è necessario che venga con te».
27 On Absalom's insistence, however, he let Amnon and al the king's sons to go with him. Absalomprepared a royal banquet	27 Ma Absalom insistette e il re permise che andassero con lui Amnon e tutti i figli del re. Absalom aveva preparato un convito, quasi regale,
28 and then gave this order to the servants, 'Listen careful y; when Amnon's heart is merry with wineand I say, "Strike Amnon down", then kil him. Don't be afraid. Have I not myself given you the order? Use yourstrength and show your mettle!'	28 ma aveva dato questo ordine ai suoi servi: «State attenti, e quando Amnon sarà ubriaco ed io vi dirò: - Percuotetelo ed uccidetelo -; non temete, son io che ve lo comando fatevi animo e siate uomini forti».
29 Absalom's servants treated Amnon as Absalom had ordered. The king's sons al leapt to their feet,mounted their mules and fled.	29 E i servi di Absalom fecero contro Amnon come era stato loro comandato da Absalom. Allora tutti i figli del re si levarono e cavalcata ciascuno la propria mula se ne fuggirono.
30 While they were on the road, word reached David, 'Absalom has killed all the king's sons; not one ofthem is left.'	30 Erano essi ancora in cammino, che pervenne a Davide la voce, che Absalom aveva ucciso tutti i figli del re e che non ne era rimasto neppur uno.
31 The king stood up, tore his clothes and threw himself on the ground. Al his officers tore their clothestoo.	31 Il re allora si levò, si stracciò le vesti, e cadde bocconi a terra, e tutti i servi di lui, che gli stavano intorno, stracciarono le proprie vesti.
32 Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, then spoke up and said, 'Do not let my lord take to heartthe report that al the young men, the king's sons, have been killed, since only Amnon is dead: for Absalom hasbeen promising himself to do this since the day when Amnon raped his sister Tamar.	32 Ma Jonadab figliuolo di Semmaa fratello di Davide disse: «Non creda il re mio signore che tutti i figli suoi siano stati uccisi; il solo Amnon è morto, poichè Absalom l'avea giurato fin dal giorno in cui Amnon fece violenza a Tamar sua sorella.
33 So my lord the king must not imagine that al the king's sons are dead; only Amnon is dead	33 Perciò adesso il re mio signore si persuada che non è vera la voce che riferì: - Tutti i figli del re sono morti, - poichè soltanto Amnon è stato ucciso».
34 and Absalom has fled.' The man on sentry duty looked up and saw a large troop coming along theroad from Bahurim. The sentry came to tell the king, 'I have seen some people coming down the Bahurim roadon the mountainside.'	34 Frattanto Absalom era fuggito. Ora il giovane posto a sentinella, alzati gli occhi, guardò e vide gran quantità di gente avanzarsi per la strada scoscesa al lato del monte.
35 Jonadab then said to the king, 'These are the king's sons arriving: what your servant said is exactlywhat happened.'	35 Disse quindi Jonadab al re: «Ecco arrivare i figli del re: è veramente accaduto come disse il tuo servo».
36 He had scarcely finished speaking when the king's sons arrived and wept aloud; the king and al hisretinue wept aloud too.	36 Finiva di parlare quando comparvero i figli del re, i quali entrando alzarono la loro voce e piansero. Anche il re e tutti i servi suoi piansero a calde lacrime.
37 Absalom had gone to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. The king mourned for his son everyday.	37 Absalom, fuggendo, erasi rifugiato da Tolomai figlio di Ammiud re di Gessur. Davide adunque pianse continuamente il figliuol suo.
38 When Absalom had gone to Geshur, he stayed there for three years.	38 Absalom essendo fuggito ed essendo giunto in Gessur, vi stette tre anni,
39 Once the king was consoled over Amnon's death, his anger against Absalom subsided.	39 dopo i quali Davide cessò di perseguitare Absalom, poichè erasi consolato della morte di Amnon.
