1 After this, the fol owing events took place. Absalom son of David had a beautiful sister whose namewas Tamar; Amnon son of David fel in love with her.	1 Voici ce qui arriva par la suite. Absalom, fils de David, avait une sœur qui était fort belle et qui se nommait Tamar; Amnon, un autre fils de David s’éprit d’elle.
2 Amnon was so obsessed with his sister Tamar that it made him il , since she was a virgin and Amnonthought it impossible to do anything to her.	2 Amnon se tourmentait au point de s’en rendre malade, quand il pensait à sa demi-sœur Tamar; mais elle était vierge et Amnon ne voyait vraiment pas ce qu’il pouvait faire.
3 But Amnon had a friend called Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab was a veryshrewd man.	3 Amnon avait un ami qui s’appelait Yonadab, fils de Chiméa, le frère de David, et Yonadab était un homme avisé.
4 'Son of the king,' he said, 'tel me why, morning after morning, you look so worn? Won't you tel me?'Amnon replied, 'I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.'	4 Il lui dit: “Comment se fait-il, fils de roi, que tu sois sans énergie dès le matin? Me le diras-tu?” Amnon répondit: “C’est que j’aime Tamar, la sœur de mon frère Absalom.”
5 Then Jonadab said, 'Take to your bed, pretend to be ill and, when your father comes to visit you, say,"Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat; let her prepare the food where I can see. Whatshe gives me I shal eat." '	5 Alors Yonadab lui dit: “Mets-toi au lit, fais semblant d’être malade, et quand ton père viendra te voir, tu lui diras: Permets que ma sœur Tamar vienne me donner à manger. Elle préparera un plat sous mes yeux pour que je le voie et que je le mange de sa main.”
6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. The king then came to visit him and Amnon said to theking, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make a cake or two where I can watch. What she gives me, I shaleat.'	6 Amnon se coucha donc et fit semblant d’être malade. Le roi vint le voir et Amnon dit au roi: “Permets que ma sœur Tamar vienne, qu’elle prépare des gâteaux sous mes yeux et qu’elle me les donne de sa main.”
7 David then sent word to Tamar at the palace, 'Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare somefood for him.'	7 David envoya chercher Tamar à la maison: “Va chez ton frère Amnon, et prépare-lui à manger.”
8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon who was lying there in bed. She took dough andkneaded it, and she made some cakes while he watched, and baked the cakes.	8 Tamar se rendit chez son frère Amnon qui était au lit, elle prit de la pâte, elle la pétrit, elle prépara sous ses yeux des gâteaux qu’elle fit cuire.
9 She then took the pan and dished them up in front of him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, 'Leteveryone leave me!' So everyone withdrew.	9 Elle prit ensuite la poêle et la vida devant lui, mais il refusa de manger. Amnon dit alors: “Faites sortir tout le monde de chez moi”, et tous sortirent de chez lui.
10 Amnon then said to Tamar, 'Bring the food to the inner room, so that I can eat what you give me.' SoTamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in the inner room.	10 Amnon dit alors à Tamar: “Apporte la nourriture dans la chambre pour que je la reçoive de tes mains.” Tamar prit les gâteaux qu’elle avait préparés et les apporta à son frère Amnon dans la chambre.
11 And as she was offering the food to him, he caught hold of her and said, 'Come to bed with me,sister!'	11 Comme elle les lui présentait, il la saisit et lui dit: “Viens coucher avec moi, ma sœur.”
12 She replied, 'No, brother! Do not force me! This is no way to behave in Israel. Do not do anything sodisgraceful!	12 Mais elle lui répondit: “Non mon frère, ne me fais pas violence, on n’agit pas ainsi en Israël. Ne commets pas cette faute.
13 Wherever should I go? I should be marked with this shame, while you would become disgraced inIsrael. Why not go and speak to the king? He wil not refuse to give me to you.'	13 Où irais-je donc porter ma honte? Et toi, tu serais comme un maudit en Israël, parle plutôt au roi! Il ne refusera pas de me donner à toi.”
14 But he would not listen to her; he overpowered her and raped her.	14 Mais il ne voulut rien entendre, il la maîtrisa et lui fit violence, et il coucha avec elle.
15 Amnon was then seized with extreme hatred for her; the hatred he now felt for her was greater thanhis earlier love. 'Get up and go!' he said.	15 Mais alors Amnon se prit à la détester. C’était une haine encore plus forte que l’amour dont il l’avait aimée. Amnon lui dit: “Lève-toi, va-t’en!”
16 She said, 'No, brother! To send me away would be worse than the other wrong you have done me!'But he would not listen to her.	16 Elle répondit: “Non, mon frère, ne me chasse pas! Ce serait pire encore que ce que tu viens de faire.” Mais il ne voulut pas l’écouter.
17 He cal ed his personal servant. 'Rid me of this woman!' he said. 'Throw her out and bolt the doorbehind her!'	17 il appela le jeune homme qui était à son service et lui dit: “Chasse-la dehors, loin de moi, et ferme la porte au verrou derrière elle.”
18 (She was wearing a magnificent dress, for this was what the king's unmarried daughters wore indays gone by.) So the servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.	18 Elle portait une tunique à manches, car c’est ainsi que s’habillaient les filles de roi lorsqu’elles étaient vierges. Le serviteur la jeta donc dehors et ferma la porte au verrou derrière elle.
19 Tamar put dust on her head, tore the magnificent dress which she was wearing, laid her hand on herhead, and went away, crying aloud as she went.	19 Tamar jeta de la cendre sur sa tête, elle déchira sa tunique à manches et elle mit sa main sur sa tête, puis elle partit en poussant des cris.
20 Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? Sister, be quiet; he is yourbrother; do not take the matter to heart!' Tamar, however, went back to her brother Absalom's houseinconsolable.	20 Son frère Absalom lui dit: “Ton frère Amnon aurait-il couché avec toi? Écoute-moi, ma sœur, ne dis rien à personne! N’est-il pas ton frère? Ne prends donc pas cette affaire à cœur.” Tamar demeura ainsi délaissée dans la maison de son frère Absalom.
21 When King David heard the whole story, he was very angry; but he had no wish to harm his sonAmnon, whom he loved because he was his first-born.	21 Lorsque le roi David apprit toute cette affaire, il fut très en colère mais il ne voulut pas faire de reproches à son fils Amnon, car c’était son premier-né et il le préférait.
22 Absalom, however, would not so much as speak to Amnon, since he hated Amnon for having rapedhis sister Tamar.	22 Absalom non plus ne lui dit rien, ni une bonne, ni une mauvaise parole, mais il avait de la haine pour lui parce qu’il avait violé sa sœur Tamar.
23 Two years later, when Absalom had the sheep-shearers at Baal-Hazor, which is near Ephraim, heinvited al the king's sons.	23 Deux ans plus tard, Absalom avait les tondeurs à Baal-Hazor, à côté d’Éphraïm. Absalom invita donc tous les fils du roi.
24 Absalom went to the king and said, 'Now sir, your servant has the sheep-shearers. Wil the king andhis retinue be pleased to come with your servant?'	24 Absalom dit au roi: “Ton serviteur reçoit les tondeurs, que le roi vienne avec ses gens chez ton serviteur.”
25 'No, my son,' the king replied, 'we must not al come and be a burden to you.' And though Absalomwas insistent, he would not go but dismissed him.	25 Mais le roi répondit à Absalom: “Non, mon fils, nous n’irons pas tous, ce serait une charge trop lourde pour toi.” Absalom eut beau insister auprès du roi, il ne voulut pas y aller et se contenta de le bénir.
26 Absalom persisted, 'Then at least let my brother Amnon come with us.' The king said, 'Why should hego with you?'	26 Absalom dit alors: “Soit! Mais du moins, accepte que mon frère Amnon vienne.” Le roi lui répondit: “Pourquoi irait-il avec toi?”
27 On Absalom's insistence, however, he let Amnon and al the king's sons to go with him. Absalomprepared a royal banquet	27 Mais Absalom insista tellement que le roi laissa partir Amnon avec les autres fils du roi. Absalom prépara un festin royal.
28 and then gave this order to the servants, 'Listen careful y; when Amnon's heart is merry with wineand I say, "Strike Amnon down", then kil him. Don't be afraid. Have I not myself given you the order? Use yourstrength and show your mettle!'	28 Il donna cet ordre à ses garçons: “Faites attention, lorsque Amnon sera ivre, je vous dirai: Frappez Amnon! Aussitôt vous le tuerez. Ne craignez rien. C’est moi qui vous donne cet ordre. Vous n’hésiterez pas, vous montrerez que vous êtes des hommes.”
29 Absalom's servants treated Amnon as Absalom had ordered. The king's sons al leapt to their feet,mounted their mules and fled.	29 Les serviteurs d’Absalom firent donc pour Amnon comme Absalom leur avait ordonné. Voyant cela, tous les fils du roi se levèrent: chacun enfourcha sa mule et ils prirent la fuite.
30 While they were on the road, word reached David, 'Absalom has killed all the king's sons; not one ofthem is left.'	30 Ils étaient encore en route que déjà la nouvelle arrivait à David: “Absalom a frappé tous les fils du roi, aucun n’en est réchappé.”
31 The king stood up, tore his clothes and threw himself on the ground. Al his officers tore their clothestoo.	31 Le roi se leva, déchira ses vêtements et se coucha par terre; tous ses gens qui étaient autour de lui déchirèrent aussi leurs vêtements.
32 Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, then spoke up and said, 'Do not let my lord take to heartthe report that al the young men, the king's sons, have been killed, since only Amnon is dead: for Absalom hasbeen promising himself to do this since the day when Amnon raped his sister Tamar.	32 Alors Yonadab, fils de Chiméa, le frère de David, prit la parole et dit: “Mon seigneur ne doit pas croire qu’on a mis à mort tous les jeunes gens, les fils du roi: seul Amnon est mort, et c’était une chose décidée dans la tête d’Absalom depuis le jour où Amnon avait violé sa sœur Tamar.
33 So my lord the king must not imagine that al the king's sons are dead; only Amnon is dead	33 Que mon seigneur ne prenne donc pas la chose à cœur, qu’il ne pense pas que tous les fils du roi sont morts. Non, seul Amnon est mort,
34 and Absalom has fled.' The man on sentry duty looked up and saw a large troop coming along theroad from Bahurim. The sentry came to tell the king, 'I have seen some people coming down the Bahurim roadon the mountainside.'	34 et Absalom aura pris la fuite.” Le jeune homme qui faisait le guet leva les yeux et vit un groupe important qui arrivait par la route de Bahourim. Le guetteur en informa le roi: “J’ai vu des hommes qui descendent par le chemin de Bahourim, au flanc de la montagne.”
35 Jonadab then said to the king, 'These are the king's sons arriving: what your servant said is exactlywhat happened.'	35 Yonadab dit alors au roi: “Ce sont les fils du roi qui arrivent. Tu vois bien que ton serviteur ne s’était pas trompé.”
36 He had scarcely finished speaking when the king's sons arrived and wept aloud; the king and al hisretinue wept aloud too.	36 Il parlait encore lorsque les fils du roi entrèrent: tous poussaient des cris et pleuraient. Le roi aussi se mit à pleurer avec ses serviteurs.
37 Absalom had gone to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. The king mourned for his son everyday.	37 Pendant ce temps Absalom avait pris la fuite, il s’était rendu chez Talmaï, fils d’Ammihoud, roi de Guéchour; 38b il y resta trois ans. 37b Durant de longs jours le roi fit le deuil de son fils,
38 When Absalom had gone to Geshur, he stayed there for three years.
39 Once the king was consoled over Amnon's death, his anger against Absalom subsided.	39 puis il se consola de la mort d’Amnon et sa colère contre Absalom se calma.
