1 The ark of the LORD had been in the land of the Philistines seven months	1 Esteve a arca do Senhor na terra dos Filisteus sete meses.
2 when they summoned priests and fortune-tellers to ask, "What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us what we should send back with it."	2 Os Filisteus chamaram os sacerdotes e os adivinhos, e disseram: Que faremos da arca do Senhor? Dizei-nos como havemos de a remeter ao seu lugar. Eles responderam:
3 They replied: "If you intend to send away the ark of the God of Israel, you must not send it alone, but must, by all means, make amends to him through a guilt offering. Then you will be healed, and will learn why he continues to afflict you."	3 Se vós remeteis a arca do Deus de Israel, não a remetais vazia, mas dai-lhe o que deveis pelo pecado; então sereis curados e sabereis por que a sua mão (de Deus) se não afastou de vós.
4 When asked further, "What guilt offering should be our amends to him?", they replied: "Five golden hemorrhoids and five golden mice to correspond to the number of Philistine lords, since the same plague has struck all of you and your lords.	4 Eles disseram: Que devemos nós dar-lhe pelo delito? Eles responderam:
5 Therefore, make images of the hemorrhoids and of the mice that are infesting your land and give them as a tribute to the God of Israel. Perhaps then he will cease to afflict you, your gods, and your land.	5 Fareis cinco tumores de ouro e cinco ratos de ouro, segundo o número de príncipes dos Filisteus, porque vós e os vossos príncipes fostes feridos de uma mesma praga. Fareis pois figuras dos vossos tumores e dos ratos que devastaram a terra, e dareis glória ao Deus de Israel, para ver se tira a sua mão de cima de vós, dos vossos deuses e da vossa terra.
6 Why should you become stubborn, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh were stubborn? Was it not after he had dealt ruthlessly with them that the Israelites were released and departed?	6 Por que endureceis os vossos corações, como o Egipto e Faraó endureceram o seu coração? Porventura não tiveram de deixar sair os filhos de Israel, depois de ele os haver castigado?
7 So now set to work and make a new cart. Then take two milch cows that have not borne the yoke; hitch them to the cart, but drive their calves indoors away from them.	7 Agora pois fazei um carro novo, metei ao carro duas vacas que tenham tido há pouco as suas crias, às quais ainda se não tenha posto jugo, e encerrai os seus bezerros no curral.
8 You shall next take the ark of the LORD and place it on the cart, putting in a box beside it the golden articles that you are offering, as amends for your guilt. Start it on its way, and let it go.	8 Tomareis a arca do Senhor, pô-la-eis no carro, e poreis ao seu lado, numa pequena caixa, as figuras de ouro que lhe pagastes pelo pecado; depois deixai-a ir.
9 Then watch! If it goes to Beth-shemesh along the route to his own territory, he has brought this great calamity upon us; if not, we will know it was not he who struck us, but that an accident happened to us."	9 Segui-a com os olhos: se ela for pelo caminho dos seus limites para a banda, de Betsames, (sabei que) o Deus de Israel foi quem nos fez este grande mal; se (ela porém) não (for para lá), conheceremos que não foi a sua mão que nos feriu, mas que isso sucedeu por acaso.
10 They acted upon this advice. Taking two milch cows, they hitched them to the cart but shut up their calves indoors.	10 Eles assim o fizeram: tomando duas vacas, que davam leite aos seus bezerros, puseram-nas ao carro e encerraram no curral os seus bezerros.
11 Then they placed the ark of the LORD on the cart, along with the box containing the golden mice and the images of the hemorrhoids.	11 E puseram a arca do Senhor sobre o carro e a pequena caixa que continha os ratos de ouro e as figuras dos seus tumores.
12 The cows went straight for the route to Beth-shemesh and continued along this road, mooing as they went, without turning right or left. The Philistine lords followed them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.	12 As vacas foram diretamente pela estrada que conduz a Betsames; seguiram sempre o mesmo caminho sem parar e mugindo, e não declinaram nem para a direita nem para a esquerda. Os príncipes dos Filisteus também iam seguindo atrás, até os confins de Betsames.
13 The people of Beth-shemesh were harvesting the wheat in the valley. When they looked up and spied the ark, they greeted it with rejoicing.	13 Ora os Betsamitas segavam trigo no vale. Levantando os olhos, viram a arca, e alegraram-se quando a viram.
14 The cart came to the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite and stopped there. At a large stone in the field, the wood of the cart was split up and the cows were offered as a holocaust to the LORD.	14 O carro foi para o campo de Josué Betsamita e parou ali. Havia lá uma grande pedra, e (os Betsamitas) fizeram em pedaços a madeira do carro, e puseram as vacas em cima em holocausto ao Senhor.
15 The Levites, meanwhile, had taken down the ark of God and the box beside it, in which the golden articles were, and had placed them on the great stone. The men of Beth-shemesh also offered other holocausts and sacrifices to the LORD that day.	15 Os Levita s desceram a arca do Senhor e a pequena caixa que estava ao seu lado, onde vinham as figuras de ouro, e colocaram-na sobre aquela grande pedra. Os Betsamitas ofereceram holocaustos e imolaram vítimas naquele dia ao Senhor.
16 After witnessing this, the five Philistine lords returned to Ekron the same day.	16 Os cinco príncipes dos Filisteus, depois de verem isto, voltaram no mesmo dia para Acaron.
17 The golden hemorrhoids the Philistines sent back as a guilt offering to the LORD were as follows: one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, and one for Ekron.	17 Ora estes são os tumores de ouro, que os Filisteus deram ao Senhor pelo pecado: Azot deu um, Gaza um, Ascalon um, Get um, Acaron um
18 The golden mice, however, corresponded to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, including fortified cities and open villages. The large stone on which the ark of the LORD was placed is still in the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite at the present time.	18 também os ratos de ouro eram segundo o número das cidades das cinco províncias dos Filisteus, desde as cidades muradas até às aldeias sem muros. Testemunho a grande pedra, sobre a qual puseram a arca do Senhor, a qual, até ao dia de hoje, está no campo de Josué Betsamita.
19 The descendants of Jeconiah did not join in the celebration with the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh when they greeted the ark of the LORD, and seventy of them were struck down. The people went into mourning at this great calamity with which the LORD had afflicted them.	19 Ora (o Senhor) feriu os habitantes de Betsames, porque tinham olhado (com curiosidade e pouco respeito) para a arca do Senhor, e matou setenta homens do povo. O povo chorou, por ter o Senhor ferido a plebe com uma tão grande praga.
20 The men of Beth-shemesh asked, "Who can stand in the presence of this Holy One? To whom shall he go from us?"	20 Os homens Betsamitas disseram: Quem poderá subsistir na presença do Senhor, deste Deus santo? E para quem irá (afastando-se) de nós?
21 They then sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, "The Philistines have returned the ark of the LORD; come down and get it."	21 Mandaram mensageiros aos habitantes de Cariatiarim, dizendo: Os Filisteus restituiram a arca do Senhor; vinde e levai-a para vós.
