NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.1 Et vidi caelum novum et ter ram novam; primum enim caelum et prima terraabierunt, et mare iam non est.
I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.2 Et civitatem sanctam Ierusalem novam vididescendentem de caelo a Deo, paratam sicut sponsam ornatam viro suo.
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them (as their God).3 Et audivivocem magnam de throno dicentem: “Ecce tabernaculum Dei cum hominibus! Ethabitabit cum eis, et ipsi populi eius erunt, et ipse Deus cum eis erit eorumDeus;
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, (for) the old order has passed away."4 et absterget omnem lacrimam ab oculis eorum, et mors ultra non erit,neque luctus neque clamor neque dolor erit ultra, quia prima abierunt ”.
The one who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." Then he said, "Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true."5 Et dixit, qui sedebat super throno: “ Ecce nova facio omnia ”. Et dicit:“ Scribe: Haec verba fidelia sunt et vera ”.
He said to me, "They are accomplished. I (am) the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water.6 Et dixit mihi: “ Factasunt! Ego sum Alpha et Omega, principium et finis. Ego sitienti dabo de fonteaquae vivae gratis.
The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son.7 Qui vicerit, hereditabit haec, et ero illi Deus, et illeerit mihi filius.
But as for cowards, the unfaithful, the depraved, murderers, the unchaste, sorcerers, idol-worshipers, and deceivers of every sort, their lot is in the burning pool of fire and sulfur, which is the second death."8 Timidis autem et incredulis et exsecratis et homicidis etfornicatoribus et veneficis et idololatris et omnibus mendacibus, pars illorumerit in stagno ardenti igne et sulphure, quod est mors secunda ”.
One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."9 Et venit unus de septem angelis habentibus septem phialas plenas septem plagisnovissimis et locutus est mecum dicens: “ Veni, ostendam tibi sponsam uxoremAgni ”.
He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.10 Et sustulit me in spiritu super montem magnum et altum et ostenditmihi civitatem sanctam Ierusalem descendentem de caelo a Deo,
It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal.11 habentemclaritatem Dei; lumen eius simile lapidi pretiosissimo, tamquam lapidi iaspidi,in modum crystalli;
It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed, (the names) of the twelve tribes of the Israelites.12 et habebat murum magnum et altum et habebat portasduodecim et super portas angelos duodecim et nomina inscripta, quae suntduodecim tribuum filiorum Israel.
There were three gates facing east, three north, three south, and three west.13 Ab oriente portae tres, et ab aquiloneportae tres, et ab austro portae tres, et ab occasu portae tres;
The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.14 et muruscivitatis habens fundamenta duodecim, et super ipsis duodecim nomina duodecimapostolorum Agni.
The one who spoke to me held a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.15 Et, qui loquebatur mecum, habebat mensuram arundinem auream, ut metireturcivitatem et portas eius et murum eius.
The city was square, its length the same as (also) its width. He measured the city with the rod and found it fifteen hundred miles in length and width and height.16 Et civitas in quadro posita est, etlongitudo eius tanta est quanta et latitudo. Et mensus est civitatem arundineper stadia duodecim milia; longitudo et latitudo et altitudo eius aequales sunt.
He also measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits according to the standard unit of measurement the angel used.17 Et mensus est murum eius centum quadraginta quattuor cubitorum, mensurahominis, quae est angeli.
The wall was constructed of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass.18 Et erat structura muri eius ex iaspide, ipsa verocivitas aurum mundum simile vitro mundo.
The foundations of the city wall were decorated with every precious stone; the first course of stones was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,19 Fundamenta muri civitatis omnilapide pretioso ornata: fundamentum primum iaspis, secundus sapphirus, tertiuschalcedonius, quartus smaragdus,
the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.20 quintus sardonyx, sextus sardinus, septimuschrysolithus, octavus beryllus, nonus topazius, decimus chrysoprasus, undecimushyacinthus, duodecimus amethystus.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass.21 Et duodecim portae duodecim margaritaesunt, et singulae portae erant ex singulis margaritis. Et platea civitatis aurummundum tamquam vitrum perlucidum.
I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb.22 Et templum non vidi in ea: Dominus enim, Deus omnipotens, templum illius est,et Agnus.
The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.23 Et civitas non eget sole neque luna, ut luceant ei, nam claritasDei illuminavit eam, et lucerna eius est Agnus.
The nations will walk by its light, and to it the kings of the earth will bring their treasure.24 Et ambulabunt gentes perlumen eius, et reges terrae afferunt gloriam suam in illam;
During the day its gates will never be shut, and there will be no night there.25 et portae eiusnon claudentur per diem, nox enim non erit illic;
The treasure and wealth of the nations will be brought there,26 et afferent gloriam etdivitias gentium in illam.
but nothing unclean will enter it, nor any (one) who does abominable things or tells lies. Only those will enter whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.27 Nec intrabit in ea aliquid coinquinatum et faciensabominationem et mendacium, nisi qui scripti sunt in libro vitae Agni.
