NEW AMERICAN BIBLEKING JAMES BIBLE
We ask you, brothers, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling with him,1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
not to be shaken out of your minds suddenly, or to be alarmed either by a "spirit," or by an oral statement, or by a letter allegedly from us to the effect that the day of the Lord is at hand.2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no one deceive you in any way. For unless the apostasy comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one doomed to perdition,3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship, so as to seat himself in the temple of God, claiming that he is a god--4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
do you not recall that while I was still with you I told you these things?5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his time.6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. But the one who restrains is to do so only for the present, until he is removed from the scene.7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord (Jesus) will kill with the breath of his mouth and render powerless by the manifestation of his coming,8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
the one whose coming springs from the power of Satan in every mighty deed and in signs and wonders that lie,9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
and in every wicked deceit for those who are perishing because they have not accepted the love of truth so that they may be saved.10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie,11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned.12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
But we ought to give thanks to God for you always, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth.13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
To this end he has (also) called you through our gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours.15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace,16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
