1 Now Jericho was in a state of siege because of the presence of the Israelites, so that no one left or entered.	1 La ville de Jéricho était fermée à cause des Israélites; on l’avait fermée et personne n’en sortait, personne n’y entrait.
2 And to Joshua the LORD said, "I have delivered Jericho and its king into your power.	2 Yahvé dit à Josué: “Regarde! Je livre Jéricho entre tes mains avec son roi et ses meilleurs soldats.
3 Have all the soldiers circle the city, marching once around it. Do this for six days,	3 Vous, les hommes de guerre, vous allez faire le tour complet de la ville, et vous ferez de même chaque jour durant six jours.
4 with seven priests carrying ram's horns ahead of the ark. On the seventh day march around the city seven times, and have the priests blow the horns.	4 Sept prêtres porteront les sept trompettes des jubilés devant l’Arche. Le septième jour vous tournerez sept fois autour de la ville, ensuite les prêtres sonneront de la trompette.
5 When they give a long blast on the ram's horns and you hear that signal, all the people shall shout aloud. The wall of the city will collapse, and they will be able to make a frontal attack."	5 Lorsque le son de la corne de bélier se prolongera, tout le peuple poussera le grand cri de guerre. Alors la muraille de la ville s’effondrera sur place et tout le peuple ira à l’assaut chacun devant soi.”
6 Summoning the priests, Joshua, son of Nun, then ordered them to take up the ark of the covenant with seven of the priests carrying ram's horns in front of the ark of the LORD.	6 Josué, fils de Noun, rassembla donc les prêtres et leur dit: “Vous porterez l’Arche de l’Alliance, et sept prêtres porteront les sept trompettes des jubilés devant l’Arche de Yahvé.”
7 And he ordered the people to proceed in a circle around the city, with the picked troops marching ahead of the ark of the LORD.	7 Puis, se tournant vers le peuple, il lui dit: “Passez et faites le tour de la ville; les hommes en armes iront en avant de Yahvé.”
8 At this order they proceeded, with the seven priests who carried the ram's horns before the LORD blowing their horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD following them.	8 Lorsque Josué eut fini de parler au peuple, les sept prêtres qui portaient les sept trompettes des jubilés devant Yahvé, passèrent et sonnèrent de leur trompette; l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé marchait derrière eux.
9 In front of the priests with the horns marched the picked troops; the rear guard followed the ark, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually as they marched.	9 Les hommes en armes marchaient en avant des prêtres qui sonnaient de la trompette, et l’arrière-garde marchait derrière l’Arche. On s’avançait au son des trompettes.
10 But the people had been commanded by Joshua not to shout or make any noise or outcry until he gave the word: only then were they to shout.	10 Josué avait donné cet ordre au peuple: “Ne poussez pas le cri de guerre! Qu’on ne vous entende pas, et que pas un mot ne sorte de votre bouche jusqu’au jour où je vous dirai: Criez! Alors, vous pousserez le cri de guerre.”
11 So he had the ark of the LORD circle the city, going once around it, after which they returned to camp for the night.	11 L’Arche de Yahvé s’avança autour de la ville. Elle en fit une fois le tour puis on rentra au camp où l’on passa la nuit.
12 Early the next morning, Joshua had the priests take up the ark of the LORD.	12 Le lendemain, de bon matin, Josué se leva ainsi que les prêtres qui portaient l’Arche de Yahvé.
13 The seven priests bearing the ram's horns marched in front of the ark of the LORD, blowing their horns. Ahead of these marched the picked troops, while the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually.	13 Les sept prêtres qui portaient les sept trompettes devant l’Arche de Yahvé, se mirent en route et sonnèrent de la trompette. Les hommes en armes marchaient devant eux et l’arrière-garde suivait l’Arche de Yahvé. On s’avançait au son des trompettes.
14 On this second day they again marched around the city once before returning to camp; and for six days in all they did the same.	14 Le second jour on fit encore une fois le tour de la ville puis on rentra au camp, et l’on fit ainsi pendant six jours.
15 On the seventh day, beginning at daybreak, they marched around the city seven times in the same manner; on that day only did they march around the city seven times.	15 Le septième jour, alors que pointait l’aurore, on tourna de la même façon sept fois autour de la ville. Ce jour-là seulement on fit sept fois le tour de la ville.
16 The seventh time around, the priests blew the horns and Joshua said to the people, "Now shout, for the LORD has given you the city	16 À la septième fois, lorsque les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompette, Josué dit au peuple: “Poussez le cri de guerre! Yahvé vous a livré la ville!
17 and everything in it. It is under the LORD'S ban. Only the harlot Rahab and all who are in the house with her are to be spared, because she hid the messengers we sent.	17 “On livrera à l’anathème, en l’honneur de Yahvé, la ville avec tout ce qui s’y trouve. Seule Rahab la prostituée sera épargnée avec ceux qui se sont rassemblés autour d’elle, dans sa maison, car elle a caché les espions que nous avions envoyés.
18 But be careful not to take, in your greed, anything that is under the ban; else you will bring upon the camp of Israel this ban and the misery of it.	18 Quant à vous, ne prenez rien de ce qui a été voué à l’anathème, car en prenant quelque chose qui a été voué à l’anathème, vous rendriez anathème le camp d’Israël et vous attireriez sur lui le malheur.
19 All silver and gold, and the articles of bronze or iron, are sacred to the LORD. They shall be put in the treasury of the LORD."	19 Tout l’argent et tout l’or, tous les objets de bronze et de fer seront consacrés à Yahvé et entreront dans le trésor de Yahvé.”
20 As the horns blew, the people began to shout. When they heard the signal horn, they raised a tremendous shout. The wall collapsed, and the people stormed the city in a frontal attack and took it.	20 Le peuple poussa donc le cri de guerre et l’on sonna de la trompette. Dès que le peuple entendit le son de la trompette, il poussa le grand cri de guerre et la muraille s’effondra sur place. Alors le peuple entra dans la ville, chacun devant soi et ils s’emparèrent de la ville.
21 They observed the ban by putting to the sword all living creatures in the city: men and women, young and old, as well as oxen, sheep and asses.	21 À cause de l’anathème, on massacra tout ce qui était dans la ville: hommes et femmes, enfants et vieillards, même les bœufs, les moutons et les ânes.
22 Joshua directed the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the harlot's house and bring out the woman with all her kin, as you swore to her you would do."	22 Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient espionné le pays: “Entrez dans la maison de la prostituée et faites-en sortir cette femme avec tout ce qui lui appartient, comme vous le lui avez juré.”
23 The spies entered and brought out Rahab, with her father, mother, brothers, and all her kin. Her entire family they led forth and placed them outside the camp of Israel.	23 Les jeunes gens qui avaient été envoyés en reconnaissance entrèrent donc et firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère et ses frères, avec toutes ses affaires. On installa toute la famille au-dehors du camp d’Israël.
24 The city itself they burned with all that was in it, except the silver, gold, and articles of bronze and iron, which were placed in the treasury of the house of the LORD.	24 Ensuite on mit le feu à la ville et à tout ce qui s’y trouvait. Mais on déposa dans le trésor de la Maison de Yahvé, l’argent, l’or ainsi que les objets de bronze ou de fer.
25 Because Rahab the harlot had hidden the messengers whom Joshua had sent to reconnoiter Jericho, Joshua spared her with her family and all her kin, who continue in the midst of Israel to this day.	25 Josué laissa en vie Rahab la prostituée ainsi que la maison de son père et tout ce qui lui appartenait. Elle a habité au milieu d’Israël jusqu’à ce jour, car elle avait caché les espions que Josué avait envoyés pour explorer Jéricho.
26 On that occasion Joshua imposed the oath: Cursed before the LORD be the man who attempts to rebuild this city, Jericho. He shall lose his first-born when he lays its foundation, and he shall lose his youngest son when he sets up its gates.	26 En ce temps-là Josué fit ce serment: “Que Yahvé maudisse celui qui voudra rebâtir cette ville de Jéricho. Il en posera les fondements au prix de son premier-né, il en relèvera les portes au prix de son plus jeune fils.”
27 Thus the LORD was with Joshua so that his fame spread throughout the land.	27 Yahvé était avec Josué, et sa renommée se répandit dans tout le pays.
