Joshua 11

1 When Jabin, king of Hazor, learned of this, he sent a message to Jobab, king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,	1 Lorsque Yabîn, roi de Haçor, eut appris cela, il fit informer Yobab, roi de Mérom, le roi de Shimrôn,le roi d'Akshaph
2 and to the northern kings in the mountain regions and in the Arabah near Chinneroth, in the foothills, and in Naphath-dor to the west.	2 et les rois habitant la Montagne au nord, la plaine au sud de Kinnerot, le Bas-Pays, et les coteaux deDor à l'ouest.
3 These were Canaanites to the east and west, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the mountain regions, and Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.	3 Les Cananéens se trouvaient à l'orient et à l'occident, les Amorites, les Hittites, les Perizzites, et lesJébuséens dans la montagne, les Hivvites au pied de l'Hermon, au pays de Miçpa.
4 They came out with all their troops, an army numerous as the sands on the seashore, and with a multitude of horses and chariots.	4 Ils partirent ayant avec eux toutes leurs troupes, un peuple nombreux comme le sable au bord de lamer, avec une énorme quantité de chevaux et de chars.
5 All these kings joined forces and marched to the waters of Merom, where they encamped together to fight against Israel.	5 Tous ces rois, s'étant donné rendez-vous, arrivèrent et campèrent ensemble aux eaux de Mérom pourcombattre Israël.
6 The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will stretch them slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots."	6 Yahvé dit alors à Josué: "Sois sans crainte devant eux car demain, à la même heure, je les livreraitous, percés de coups, à Israël; tu couperas les jarrets de leurs chevaux et tu brûleras leurs chars."
7 Joshua with his whole army came upon them at the waters of Merom in a surprise attack.	7 Josué, avec tous ses gens de guerre, les atteignit à l'improviste près des eaux de Mérom et tomba sureux.
8 The LORD delivered them into the power of the Israelites, who defeated them and pursued them to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and eastward to the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them all down, leaving no survivors.	8 Yahvé les livra aux mains d'Israël qui les battit et les poursuivit jusqu'à Sidon-la-Grande-et jusqu'àMisrephot à l'occident et jusqu'à la vallée de Miçpa au levant. Il les battit jusqu'à ne pas leur laisser un survivant.
9 Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.	9 Josué les traita comme Yahvé lui avait dit: il coupa les jarrets de leurs chevaux et livra leurs chars aufeu.
10 At that time Joshua, turning back, captured Hazor and slew its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the chief of all those kingdoms.	10 En ce temps-là, Josué revint et s'empara de Haçor dont il tua le roi d'un coup d'épée. Haçor étaitjadis la capitale de tous ces royaumes.
11 He also fulfilled the doom by putting every person there to the sword, till none was left alive. Hazor itself he burned.	11 On passa aussi au fil de l'épée tout ce qui s'y trouvait de vivant, en vertu de l'anathème. On n'ylaissa pas âme qui vive et Haçor fut livrée au feu.
12 Joshua thus captured all those kings with their cities and put them to the sword, fulfilling the doom on them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.	12 Toutes les villes de ces rois, ainsi que tous leurs rois, Josué s'en empara et les passa au fil de l'épéeen vertu de l'anathème, comme l'avait ordonné Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé.
13 However, Israel did not destroy by fire any of the cities built on raised sites, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.	13 Pourtant toutes les villes qui se dressaient sur leurs collines de ruines, Israël ne les incendia pas,sauf Haçor que Josué incendia.
14 The Israelites took all the spoil and livestock of these cities as their booty; but the people they put to the sword, until they had exterminated the last of them, leaving none alive.	14 Et toutes les dépouilles de ces villes, y compris le bétail, les Israélites les prirent comme butin. Maistous les êtres humains, il les passèrent au fil de l'épée, jusqu'à les exterminer. Ils n'y laissèrent pas âme qui vive.
15 As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua acted accordingly. He left nothing undone that the LORD had commanded Moses should be done.	15 Ce que Yahvé avait ordonné à son serviteur Moïse, Moïse l'avait ordonné à Josué, et Josué l'exécutasans omettre un seul mot de ce que Yahvé avait ordonné à Moïse.
16 So Joshua captured all this land: the mountain regions, the entire Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the foothills, the Arabah, as well as the mountain regions and foothills of Israel,	16 C'est ainsi que Josué s'empara de tout ce pays: la Montagne, tout le Négeb et tout le pays deGoshèn, le Bas-Pays, la Araba, la montagne d'Israël et son Bas-Pays.
17 from Mount Halak that rises toward Seir as far as Baal-gad in the Lebanon valley at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured and put to death.	17 Depuis le mont Pelé, qui s'élève vers Séïr, jusqu'à Baal-Gad, dans la vallée du Liban, au pied dumont Hermon, il s'empara de tous leurs rois qu'il fit frapper à mort.
18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.	18 Pendant de longs jours, Josué avait fait la guerre à tous ces rois;
19 With the exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon, no city made peace with the Israelites; all were taken in battle.	19 nulle cité n'avait fait la paix avec les Israélites, sauf les Hivvites qui habitaient Gabaôn: c'est encombattant qu'ils s'emparèrent de toutes les autres.
20 For it was the design of the LORD to encourage them to wage war against Israel, that they might be doomed to destruction and thus receive no mercy, but be exterminated, as the LORD had commanded Moses.	20 Car Yahvé avait décidé d'endurcir le coeur de ces gens pour combattre Israël, afin qu'ils soientanathèmes et qu'il n'y ait pas pour eux de rémission, mais qu'ils soient extirpés, comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné àMoïse.
21 At that time Joshua penetrated the mountain regions and exterminated the Anakim in Hebron, Debir, Anab, the entire mountain region of Judah, and the entire mountain region of Israel. Joshua fulfilled the doom on them and on their cities,	21 En ce temps-là, Josué vint exterminer les Anaqim de la Montagne, d'Hébron, de Debir, de Anab, detoute la montagne de Juda et de toute la montagne d'Israël: il les voua à l'anathème avec leurs villes.
22 so that no Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites. However, some survived in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.	22 Il ne resta plus d'Anaqim dans le pays des Israélites, sauf à Gaza, à Gat et à Ashdod.
23 Thus Joshua captured the whole country, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as their heritage, apportioning it among the tribes. And the land enjoyed peace.	23 Josué s'empara de tout le pays, exactement comme Yahvé l'avait dit à Moïse, et il le donna enhéritage à Israël, selon sa répartition en tribus. Et le pays se reposa de la guerre.
