1 When Jabin, king of Hazor, learned of this, he sent a message to Jobab, king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,	1 Cuando Yabín, rey de Jasor, se enteró, mandó aviso a Yobab, rey de Merom, al rey de Simrón, al rey de Aksaf,
2 and to the northern kings in the mountain regions and in the Arabah near Chinneroth, in the foothills, and in Naphath-dor to the west.	2 y a los reyes de la parte norte de la montaña, del valle al sur de Kinerot, de la Tierra Baja y de las alturas del oeste de Dor.
3 These were Canaanites to the east and west, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the mountain regions, and Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.	3 El cananeo estaba al oriente y al occidente; el amorreo, el jivita, el perizita y el jebuseo en la montaña; el hitita en las faldas del Hermón, en el país de Mispá.
4 They came out with all their troops, an army numerous as the sands on the seashore, and with a multitude of horses and chariots.	4 Partieron, pues, con todas sus tropas: una muchedumbre innumerable como la arena de la orilla del mar y con gran número de caballos y carros.
5 All these kings joined forces and marched to the waters of Merom, where they encamped together to fight against Israel.	5 Se juntaron todos estos reyes, llegaron y acamparon juntos hacia las aguas de Merom para luchar contra Israel.
6 The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will stretch them slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots."	6 Yahveh dijo entonces a Josué: «No les tengas miedo, porque mañana a esta misma hora los dejará a todos ellos atravesados ante Israel; tú desjarretarás sus caballos y quemarás sus carros».
7 Joshua with his whole army came upon them at the waters of Merom in a surprise attack.	7 Josué, con toda su gente de guerra, los alcanzó de improvisio junto a las aguas de Merom y cayó sobre ellos.
8 The LORD delivered them into the power of the Israelites, who defeated them and pursued them to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and eastward to the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them all down, leaving no survivors.	8 Yahveh los entregó en manos de Israel, que los batió y persiguió por occidente hasta Sidón la Grande y hasta Misrefot y, por oriente, hasta el valle de Mispá. Los batió hasta que no quedó ni uno vivo.
9 Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.	9 Josué los trató como le había dicho Yahveh: desjarretó sus caballos y quemó sus carros.
10 At that time Joshua, turning back, captured Hazor and slew its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the chief of all those kingdoms.	10 Por entonces, Josué se volvió y tomó Jasor, y mató a su rey a espada. Jasor era antiguamente la capital de todos aquellos reinos.
11 He also fulfilled the doom by putting every person there to the sword, till none was left alive. Hazor itself he burned.	11 Pasaron a cuchillo a todo ser viviente que había en ella, dando cumplimiento al anatema. No quedó alma viva y Jasor fue entregada a las llamas.
12 Joshua thus captured all those kings with their cities and put them to the sword, fulfilling the doom on them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.	12 Josué se apoderó de todas las ciudades de aquellos reyes, y de todos sus reyes y los pasó a cuchillo para cumplir en ellos el anatema, según le había mandado Moisés, siervo de Yahveh.
13 However, Israel did not destroy by fire any of the cities built on raised sites, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.	13 Pero Israel no quemó ninguna de las ciudades emplazadas sobre sus montículos de ruinas; con la única excepción de Jasor, que fue incendiada por Josué.
14 The Israelites took all the spoil and livestock of these cities as their booty; but the people they put to the sword, until they had exterminated the last of them, leaving none alive.	14 El botín de estas ciudades, incluso el ganado, se lo repartieron los israelitas. Pero pasaron a cuchillo a todo ser humano hasta acabar con todos. No dejaron ninguno con vida.
15 As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua acted accordingly. He left nothing undone that the LORD had commanded Moses should be done.	15 Tal como Yahveh había ordenado a su siervo Moisés, Moisés se lo había ordenado a Josué, Josué lo ejecutó: no dejó de pasar una sola palabra de lo que Yahveh había ordenado a Moisés.
16 So Joshua captured all this land: the mountain regions, the entire Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the foothills, the Arabah, as well as the mountain regions and foothills of Israel,	16 Josué se apoderó de todo el país: de la montaña, de todo el Négueb y de todo el país de Gosen, de la Tierra Baja, de la Arabá, de la montaña de Israel y de sus estribaciones.
17 from Mount Halak that rises toward Seir as far as Baal-gad in the Lebanon valley at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured and put to death.	17 Desde el monte Pelado, que sube hacia Seír, hasta Baal Gad en el valle del Líbano, al pie del monte Hermon, apreso a todos sus reyes y los hirió de muerte.
18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.	18 Largo tiempo estuvo Josué haciendo la guerra a todos estos reyes;
19 With the exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon, no city made peace with the Israelites; all were taken in battle.	19 no hubo ciudad que hiciera paz con los israelitas, excepto los jivitas que vivían en Gabaón: de todas se apoderaron por la fuerza.
20 For it was the design of the LORD to encourage them to wage war against Israel, that they might be doomed to destruction and thus receive no mercy, but be exterminated, as the LORD had commanded Moses.	20 Porque de Yahveh provenía el endurecer su corazón para combatir a Israel, para ser así consagradas al anatema sin remisión y para ser exterminadas, como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés.
21 At that time Joshua penetrated the mountain regions and exterminated the Anakim in Hebron, Debir, Anab, the entire mountain region of Judah, and the entire mountain region of Israel. Joshua fulfilled the doom on them and on their cities,	21 Por entonces fue Josué y exterminó a los anaquitas de la Montaña, de Hebrón, de Debir, de Anab, de toda la montaña de Judá y de toda la montaña de Israel: los consagró al anatema con sus ciudades.
22 so that no Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites. However, some survived in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.	22 No quedó un anaquita en el país de los israelitas; sólo quedaron en Gaza, Gad y Asdod.
23 Thus Joshua captured the whole country, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as their heritage, apportioning it among the tribes. And the land enjoyed peace.	23 Josué se apoderó de toda la tierra tal como Yahveh le había dicho a Moisés, y se la dio en herencia a Israel según las suertes de las tribus. Y el país vivió en paz tras la guerra.
