NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of a kind not found even among pagans--a man living with his father's wife.1 It is absolutely heard, that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as the like is not among the heathens; that one should have his father's wife.
And you are inflated with pride. Should you not rather have been sorrowful? The one who did this deed should be expelled from your midst.2 And you are puffed up; and have not rather mourned, that he might be taken away from among you, that hath done this deed.
I, for my part, although absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as if present, pronounced judgment on the one who has committed this deed,3 I indeed, absent in body, but present in spirit, have already judged, as though I were present, him that hath so done,
in the name of (our) Lord Jesus: when you have gathered together and I am with you in spirit with the power of the Lord Jesus,4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, you being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus;
you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.5 To deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Your boasting is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough?6 Your glorying is not good. Know you not that a little leaven corrupteth the whole lump ?
Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed.7 Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new paste, as you are unleavened. For Christ our pasch is sacrificed.
Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.8 Therefore let us feast, not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people,9 I wrote to you in an epistle, not to keep company with fornicators.
not at all referring to the immoral of this world or the greedy and robbers or idolaters; for you would then have to leave the world.10 I mean not with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or the extortioners, or the servers of idols; otherwise you must needs go out of this world.
But I now write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber, not even to eat with such a person.11 But now I have written to you, not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother, be a fornicator, or covetous, or a server of idols, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner: with such a one, not so much as to eat.
For why should I be judging outsiders? Is it not your business to judge those within?12 For what have I to do to judge them that are without ? Do not you judge them that are within ?
God will judge those outside. "Purge the evil person from your midst."13 For them that are without, God will judge. Put away the evil one from among yourselves.
