1 Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and an advocate, a certain Tertullus, and they presented formal charges against Paul to the governor.	1 Or cinque giorni dopo arrivò il sommo sacerdote Anania con alcuni anziani ed un oratore, certo Tertullo, i quali comparvero davanti al governatore, contro Paolo.
2 When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "Since we have attained much peace through you, and reforms have been accomplished in this nation through your provident care,	2 E Tertullo, citato Paolo, cominciò l'accusa dicendo: Che noi godiamo per te profonda pace e che molte cose siano riformate dalla tua provvidenza,
3 we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all gratitude.	3 lo riconosciamo sempre in ogni luogo, con tutta gratitudine, ottimo Felice.
4 But in order not to detain you further, I ask you to give us a brief hearing with your customary graciousness.	4 Ma per non disturbarti troppo a lungo, ti prego di ascoltarci brevemente colla tua solita clemenza.
5 We found this man to be a pest; he creates dissension among Jews all over the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazoreans.	5 Abbiamo trovato quest'uomo pestilenziale, istigatore di sedizioni tra i Giudei di tutto il mondo, e anima dell'agitazione di tutta la setta dei Nazareni.
6 He even tried to desecrate our temple, but we arrested him.	6 Egli ha tentato di profanare anche il tempio, e noi, avendolo preso, volevamo giudicarlo secondo la nostra legge;
7	7 ma il tribuno Lisia, sopraggiunto, lo strappò con violenza dalle nostre mani,
8 If you examine him you will be able to learn from him for yourself about everything of which we are accusing him."	8 ordinando ai suoi accusatori di venire a te; or tu, esaminandolo, potrai da lui essere informato di tutte queste cose delle quali noi lo accusiamo.
9 The Jews also joined in the attack and asserted that these things were so.	9 Ed anche i Giudei confermarono che le cose stavano proprio così.
10 Then the governor motioned to him to speak and Paul replied, "I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years and so I am pleased to make my defense before you.	10 Ma Paolo, avendogli il preside fatto segno di parlare, rispose: Sapendo che da molti anni tu governi questa nazione, con maggiore fiducia parlerò a mia difesa.
11 As you can verify, not more than twelve days have passed since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.	11 Tu infatti puoi sincerarti come non son più di dodici giorni da che arrivai a Gerusalemme per adorare,
12 Neither in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor anywhere in the city did they find me arguing with anyone or instigating a riot among the people.	12 e non mi hanno trovato a disputare con alcuno nel tempio, nè fare assembramenti di popolo nelle sinagoghe,
13 Nor can they prove to you the accusations they are now making against me.	13 nè in città; nè potrebbero provare dinanzi a te le cose di cui ora mi accusano.
14 But this I do admit to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our ancestors and I believe everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets.	14 Io però ti confesso che, seguendo quella dottrina che essi chiamano eresia, servo al Padre e Dio mio, credendo tutto ciò che è scritto nella legge e nei profeti;
15 I have the same hope in God as they themselves have that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.	15 avendo speranza in Dio, che verrà quella risurrezione dei giusti e degli iniqui che essi stessi aspettano.
16 Because of this, I always strive to keep my conscience clear before God and man.	16 E per questo io mi studio di conservare sempre incontaminata la coscienza davanti a Dio ed agli uomini.
17 After many years, I came to bring alms for my nation and offerings.	17 Or dopo molti anni sono venuto per portare elemosine alla mia nazione e oblazioni e voti.
18 While I was so engaged, they found me, after my purification, in the temple without a crowd or disturbance.	18 E tra queste cose, mi hanno trovato purificato nel tempio, senza assembramento di gente, senza tumulto,
19 But some Jews from the province of Asia, who should be here before you to make whatever accusation they might have against me--	19 quei certi Giudei d'Asia, i quali pur dovevano comparire davanti a te ed accusarmi, se avessero contro di me qualche cosa.
20 or let these men themselves state what crime they discovered when I stood before the Sanhedrin,	20 Ma anche questi stessi dicano se han trovato in me colpa, quando io sono stato nel Sinedrio,
21 unless it was my one outcry as I stood among them, that 'I am on trial before you today for the resurrection of the dead.'"	21 eccetto quella sola parola colla quale esclamai in mezzo a loro: Io sono oggi giudicato da voi sulla risurrezione dei morti.
22 Then Felix, who was accurately informed about the Way, postponed the trial, saying, "When Lysias the commander comes down, I shall decide your case."	22 Or Felice, informato a pieno di questa dottrina, prorogò la causa, dicendo: Vi ascolterò venuto che sia il tribuno Lisia.
23 He gave orders to the centurion that he should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that he should not prevent any of his friends from caring for his needs.	23 E diede ordine al centurione di custodirlo, ma di lasciargli un po' di libertà e di non impedir ad alcuno dei suoi di prestargli assistenza.
24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He had Paul summoned and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.	24 E dopo qualche giorno, Felice, venuto con sua moglie Brasilia che era della Giudea, chiamò Paolo e l'ascoltò circa la fede di Gesù Cristo.
25 But as he spoke about righteousness and self-restraint and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, "You may go for now; when I find an opportunity I shall summon you again."	25 Ma disputando Paolo della giustizia, della castità e del giudizio futuro, Felice atterrito, disse: Per ora, vattene e a suo tempo ti chiamerò.
26 At the same time he hoped that a bribe would be offered him by Paul, and so he sent for him very often and conversed with him.	26 Nel medesimo tempo, sperava che Paolo gli avrebbe dato del danaro, perciò discorreva con lui facendolo spesso venire a sè.
27 Two years passed and Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Wishing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.	27 Passati così due anni, Felice ebbe per successore Porcio Festo. Volendo però far cosa grata ai Giudei, Felice lasciò Paolo in prigione.
