1 Paul looked intently at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have conducted myself with a perfectly clear conscience before God to this day."	1 Paulo, fitando os olhos no Sinédrio, disse: "Irmãos, até hoje tenho-me portado diante de Deus com toda a boa consciência."
2 The high priest Ananias ordered his attendants to strike his mouth.	2 Nisto Ananias, príncipe dos sacerdotes, ordenou aos que estavam junto dele que lhe batessem na boca.
3 Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall. Do you indeed sit in judgment upon me according to the law and yet in violation of the law order me to be struck?"	3 Então disse-lhe Paulo: "Deus te baterá a ti, parede branqueada. Tu estás sentado a julgar-me segundo a lei, e contra a lei ordenas que me batam?"
4 The attendants said, "Would you revile God's high priest?"	4 Os assistentes disseram: "Tu injurias o sumo sacerdote de Deus!"
5 Paul answered, "Brothers, I did not realize he was the high priest. For it is written, 'You shall not curse a ruler of your people.'"	5 Paulo respondeu: "Eu não sabia, irmãos, que é o príncipe dos sacerdotes. Efectivamente está escrito: Não dirás mal do príncipe do teu povo (Ex. 22,28)."
6 Paul was aware that some were Sadducees and some Pharisees, so he called out before the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees; (I) am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead."	6 Ora, sabendo Paulo que uma parte do Sinédrio era de saduceus e outra de fariseus, exclamou em alta voz, diante deles: "Irmãos, eu sou fariseu, filho de fariseus, e sou julgado por causa da esperança na ressurreição dos mortos."
7 When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the group became divided.	7 Quando disse isto, estabeleceu-se uma grande dissenção entre os fariseus e os saduceus, e dividiu-se a assembleia.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, while the Pharisees acknowledge all three.	8 Porque os saduceus dizem que não há ressurreição, nem anjo, nem espírito; ao passo que os fariseus reconhecem ambas as coisas.
9 A great uproar occurred, and some scribes belonging to the Pharisee party stood up and sharply argued, "We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?"	9 Houve grande vozearia. Levantando-se alguns fariseus, altercavam dizendo: "Não achamos mal algum neste homem; quem sabe se lhe falou algum espírito ou anjo?"
10 The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue him from their midst and take him into the compound.	10 Como a discórdia aumentava de violência, temendo o tribuno que Paulo fosse despedaçado por eles, mandou que descessem os soldados, que o tirassem do meio deles e o levassem à fortaleza.
11 The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome."	11 Na noite seguinte, aparecendo-lhe o Senhor, disse-lhe: "Coragem! Assim como deste testemunho de mim em Jerusalém, assim importa que também o dês em Roma."
12 When day came, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.	12 Quando se fez dia, coligaram-se alguns judeus e juraram com imprecações contra eles próprios que não haviam de comer nem beber enquanto não matassem contra Paulo.
13 There were more than forty who formed this conspiracy.	13 Eram mais de quarenta os que tinham feito esta conjuração.
14 They went to the chief priests and elders and said, "We have bound ourselves by a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.	14 Foram ter com os príncipes dos sacerdotes e com os anciães, e disseram: "Nós obrigamo-nos por voto, sob pena de maldição, a não tomar nenhum alimento até que matemos Paulo.
15 You, together with the Sanhedrin, must now make an official request to the commander to have him bring him down to you, as though you meant to investigate his case more thoroughly. We on our part are prepared to kill him before he arrives."	15 Vós, pois, agora, com o Sinédrio, fazei saber ao tribuno que o conduza à vossa presença, como se fosse para descobrir alguma coisa de mais seguro acerca dele. Nós estaremos preparados para o matar, antes que ele chegue."
16 The son of Paul's sister, however, heard about the ambush; so he went and entered the compound and reported it to Paul.	16 Mas um filho da irmã de Paulo, tendo tido conhecimento desta conspiração, foi à fortaleza, entrou nela e avisou Paulo.
17 Paul then called one of the centurions and requested, "Take this young man to the commander; he has something to report to him."	17 Então Paulo, chamando um dos centuriões, disse: "Leva este jovem ao tribuno, porque tem alguma coisa a comunicar-lhe."
18 So he took him and brought him to the commander and explained, "The prisoner Paul called me and asked that I bring this young man to you; he has something to say to you."	18 Tomando-o ele consigo, o levou ao tribuno e disse: "O preso Paulo rogou-me que trouxesse à tua presença este jovem, que tem alguma coisa a dizer-te."
19 The commander took him by the hand, drew him aside, and asked him privately, "What is it you have to report to me?"	19 O tribuno, tomando-o pela mão, o levou à parte e perguntou-lhe: "Que tens tu a comunicar-me?"
20 He replied, "The Jews have conspired to ask you to bring Paul down to the Sanhedrin tomor row, as though they meant to inquire about him more thoroughly,	20 Ele disse: "Os Judeus combinaram pedir-te que amanhã apresentes Paulo ao Sinédrio, sob o pretexto de examinarem mais a fundo a sua causa.
21 but do not believe them. More than forty of them are lying in wait for him; they have bound themselves by oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are now ready and only wait for your consent."	21 Mas não acredites, porque mais de quarenta homens deles lhe preparam uma armadilha, os quais juraram, sob pena de maldição, não comer nem beber, enquanto o não matarem, e agora estão preparados, esperando que lhes concedas o que pedem."
22 As the commander dismissed the young man he directed him, "Tell no one that you gave me this information."	22 Então o tribuno despediu o jovem, mandando-lhe que a ninguém dissesse que lhe tinha dado aviso disto.
23 Then he summoned two of the centurions and said, "Get two hundred soldiers ready to go to Caesarea by nine o'clock tonight, along with seventy horsemen and two hundred auxiliaries.	23 Chamando, então, dois centuriões, disse-lhes: "Tende prontos à hora terceira da noite duzentos soldados para que vão até Cesareia, e setenta cavaleiros e duzentos lanceiros.
24 Provide mounts for Paul to ride and give him safe conduct to Felix the governor."	24 Aparelhai as cavalgaduras, para nelas fazer montar Paulo, a fim de o conduzir são e salvo ao presidente Félix."
25 Then he wrote a letter with this content:	25 Redigiu uma carta nos seguintes termos:
26 "Claudius Lysias to his excellency the governor Felix, greetings.	26 "Cláudio Lisias ao óptimo presidente Félix, saúde!
27 This man, seized by the Jews and about to be murdered by them, I rescued after intervening with my troops when I learned that he was a Roman citizen.	27 Este homem foi preso pelos Judeus, e estava prestes a ser morto por eles, mas, sobrevindo eu com os soldados, o livrei, tendo sabido que é cidadão romano.
28 I wanted to learn the reason for their accusations against him so I brought him down to their Sanhedrin.	28 Querendo saber de que delito o acusavam, levei-o ao Sinédrio.
29 I discovered that he was accused in matters of controversial questions of their law and not of any charge deserving death or imprisonment.	29 Achei que era acusado por questões da lei deles, sem haver delito algum digno de morte ou prisão.
30 Since it was brought to my attention that there will be a plot against the man, I am sending him to you at once, and have also notified his accusers to state (their case) against him before you."	30 Tendo chegado a mim a notícia de uma armadilha que lhe estavam a preparar, eu to envio, intimando também os acusadores a que falem diante de ti. Adeus."
31 So the soldiers, according to their orders, took Paul and escorted him by night to Antipatris.	31 Os soldados, pois, conforme a ordem que tinham, tomaram Paulo com eles e levaram-no de noite a Antípatro.
32 The next day they re turned to the compound, leaving the horsemen to complete the journey with him.	32 No dia seguinte, deixando que os cavaleiros fossem com ele, voltaram para a fortaleza.
33 When they arrived in Caesarea they delivered the letter to the governor and presented Paul to him.	33 Aqueles, tendo chegado a Cesareia e tendo entregado a carta ao presidente, apresentaram-lhe Paulo.
34 When he had read it and asked to what province he belonged, and learned that he was from Cilicia,	34 Ele, depois de a ler e de perguntar de que província era, sabendo que era da Cilicia, disse:
35 he said, "I shall hear your case when your accusers arrive." Then he ordered that he be held in custody in Herod's praetorium.	35 "Ouvir-te-ei quando chegarem os teus acusadores." E mandou que Paulo fosse guardado no pretório (chamado) de Herodes.
