1 Moses then gave the Israelites these instructions, just as the LORD had ordered him.	1 Moïse rapporta aux Israélites tout ce que Yahvé lui avait ordonné.
2 Moses said to the heads of the Israelite tribes, "This is what the LORD has commanded:	2 Moïse parla aux chefs des tribus d’Israël: “Voici, dit-il, ce que Yahvé ordonne:
3 When a man makes a vow to the LORD or binds himself under oath to a pledge of abstinence, he shall not violate his word, but must fulfill exactly the promise he has uttered.	3 Si quelqu’un a fait un vœu à Yahvé, s’il a fait un serment et s’est imposé à lui-même une obligation, il ne violera pas son serment: il accomplira exactement ce qu’il a dit.
4 "When a woman, while still a maiden in her father's house, makes a vow to the LORD, or binds herself to a pledge,	4 Mais voici le cas d’une jeune fille qui habite dans la maison de son père: elle a fait un vœu à Yahvé et s’est imposé à elle-même une obligation.
5 if her father learns of her vow or the pledge to which she bound herself and says nothing to her about it, then any vow or any pledge she has made remains valid.	5 Si son père ne dit rien lorsqu’il apprend son vœu et l’obligation qu’elle s’est imposée, ce vœu et cette obligation gardent toute leur valeur.
6 But if on the day he learns of it her father expresses to her his disapproval, then any vow or any pledge she has made becomes null and void; and the LORD releases her from it, since her father has expressed to her his disapproval.	6 Mais si son père n’est pas d’accord lorsqu’il est mis au courant, elle est quitte de son vœu et de l’obligation qu’elle s’est imposée. Yahvé lui pardonnera puisque c’est son père qui n’est pas d’accord.
7 "If she marries while under a vow or under a rash pledge to which she bound herself,	7 Autre cas: une femme qui a fait un vœu ou qui s’est engagée par une parole imprudente vient à se marier.
8 and her husband learns of it, yet says nothing to her that day about it, then the vow or pledge she had made remains valid.	8 Si son mari apprenant la chose ne dit rien, son vœu et l’obligation qu’elle s’est imposée gardent toute leur valeur.
9 But if on the day he learns of it her husband expresses to her his disapproval, he thereby annuls the vow she had made or the rash pledge to which she had bound herself, and the LORD releases her from it.	9 Mais si le mari désapprouve sa femme le jour où il est mis au courant, il casse par là même le vœu qui la liait et la parole imprudente par laquelle elle s’était engagée. Dans ce cas Yahvé lui pardonnera.
10 The vow of a widow or of a divorced woman, or any pledge to which such a woman binds herself, is valid.	10 Une veuve ou une femme répudiée est liée par le vœu qu’elle a fait: son vœu garde toute sa valeur.
11 "If it is in her husband's house that she makes a vow or binds herself under oath to a pledge,	11 Autre cas: une femme fait un vœu ou s’impose par serment une obligation alors qu’elle vit dans la maison de son mari.
12 and her husband learns of it yet says nothing to express to her his disapproval, then any vow or any pledge she has made remains valid.	12 Si son mari ne dit rien le jour où il l’apprend, c’est qu’il ne la désapprouve pas. Dans ce cas son vœu et l’obligation qu’elle s’est imposée ont toute leur valeur.
13 But if on the day he learns of them her husband annuls them, then whatever she has expressly promised in her vow or in her pledge becomes null and void; since her husband has annulled them, the LORD releases her from them.	13 Mais si, le jour où le mari est mis au courant, il dit son désaccord, elle est quitte de sa parole et de son serment, de son vœu et de son obligation. Yahvé pardonnera à cette femme puisque c’est son mari qui les a désapprouvés.
14 "Any vow or any pledge that she makes under oath to mortify herself, her husband can either allow to remain valid or render null and void.	14 Tout vœu et toute obligation qu’elle s’est imposée pour se mortifier, c’est son mari qui l’approuve et c’est lui qui l’annule.
15 But if her husband, day after day, says nothing at all to her about them, he thereby allows as valid any vow or any pledge she has made; he has allowed them to remain valid, because on the day he learned of them he said nothing to her about them.	15 Si au fil des jours son mari continue de se taire, il approuve par là-même tous ses vœux et toutes les obligations qui lui incombent. Il les a confirmés par son silence, le jour où il les a appris.
16 If, however, he countermands them some time after he first learned of them, he is responsible for her guilt."	16 Mais s’il les annule alors qu’il les connaît depuis un certain temps, c’est lui qui portera le poids de la faute.”
17 These are the statutes which the LORD prescribed through Moses concerning the relationship between a husband and his wife, as well as between a father and his daughter while she is still a maiden in her father's house.	17 Voilà toutes les prescriptions que Yahvé a ordonnées à Moïse au sujet de l’homme et de la femme, du père et de la fille qui, jeune encore, habite la maison de son père.
