1 Woe to the complacent in Zion, to the overconfident on the mount of Samaria, Leaders of a nation favored from the first, to whom the people of Israel have recourse!	1 - Sciagurati voi, opulenti di Sion, che ponete la vostra fiducia nel monte di Samaria, nobili, primati dei popoli, che incedete facendo pomposa comparsa nella casa di Israele!
2 Pass over to Calneh and see, go from there to Hamath the great, and down to Gath of the Philistines! Are you better than these kingdoms, or is your territory wider than theirs?	2 Passate in Calane e osservate, e di là andate a Emat, la grande, quindi discendete in Get dei Filistei e dovunque c'è il meglio di questi regni, se la loro frontiera è più ampia della vostra!
3 You would put off the evil day, yet you hasten the reign of violence!	3 O voi, segregati pel cattivo giorno, e che vi accostate al soglio dell'iniquità;
4 Lying upon beds of ivory, stretched comfortably on their couches, They eat lambs taken from the flock, and calves from the stall!	4 che dormite in letti d'avorio e vi crogiolate sotto le molli coltri; che vi nutrite di carne d'agnellini da latte e dei più scelti vitelli dell'armento;
5 Improvising to the music of the harp, like David, they devise their own accompaniment.	5 che cantate al suon della cetra, e pensate di avere strumenti musicali come David!
6 They drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with the best oils; yet they are not made ill by the collapse of Joseph!	6 Bevono a coppe il vino e si profumano di unguento sopraffino, ma della sventura di Giuseppe non se ne danno pena.
7 Therefore, now they shall be the first to go into exile, and their wanton revelry shall be done away with.	7 Per modo che ora se ne andranno in esilio alla testa degli esiliati e così sarà tolta via la chiassosa conventicola dei voluttuosi. -
8 The Lord GOD has sworn by his very self, say I, the LORD, the God of hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob, I hate his castles, and I give over the city with everything in it;	8 Il Signore Dio ha fatto questo giuramento sull'anima sua. Dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: - Io detesto la superbia di Giacobbe e odio i suoi palazzi; e consegnerò al nemico la città cogli abitanti ond'è ripiena.
9 Should there remain ten men in a single house, these shall die.	9 E avverrà che se saranno rimasti in una sola casa dieci uomini, morranno anch'essi.
10 Only a few shall be left to carry the dead out of the houses; If one says to a man inside a house, "Is anyone with you?" and he answers, "No one," Then he shall say, "Silence!" for no one must mention the name of the LORD.	10 E piglierà il prossimo parente di ciascuno [il suo morto] e lo brucerà, per fare uscire le ossa dalla casa; e dirà a quello che è nell'interno della casa: "C'è ancora alcuno teco?".
11 Indeed, the LORD has given the command to shatter the great house to bits, and reduce the small house to rubble.	11 E risponderà: "È la fine!". E soggiungerà: "Taci, e più non rammentare il nome del Signore Dio!". -
12 Can horses run across a cliff? or can one plow the sea with oxen? Yet you have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of justice into wormwood.	12 Perchè ecco, che il Signore, con una parola d'ordine, e abbatterà sotto alle sue ruine la casa grande e sotto alle sue macerie la casa piccola.
13 You rejoice in Lodebar, and say, "Have we not, by our own strength, seized for ourselves Karnaim?"	13 Forse che fra le pietre possono correre i cavalli, ovvero si può arare con i bufali? Così voi che avete convertito l'equità in tossico, ed il frutto della giustizia in assenzio.
14 Beware, I am raising up against you, O house of Israel, say I, the LORD, the God of hosts, A nation that shall oppress you from Labo of Hamath even to the Wadi Arabah.	14 Voi che vi beate nel niente; che dite: - Oh, non è forse per bravura nostra che abbiamo rizzato le corna? -
	15 - Ecco, ch'io solleverò sopra di voi, o casa di Israele, dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti, una nazione e vi schiaccerà, a partire dal valico di Emat fino al Torrente del deserto. -
