Hosea 8

1 A trumpet to your lips, You who watch over the house of the LORD! Since they have violated my covenant, and sinned against my law,	1 Alla tua bocca la tromba come una sentinella sopra la casa del Signore, perché han trasgredito la mia alleanza e alla mia legge si son ribellati!
2 While to me they cry out, "O, God of Israel, we know you!"	2 Essi gridino pure: "Dio d'Israele, noi ti conosciamo!";
3 The men of Israel have thrown away what is good; the enemy shall pursue them.	3 Israele ha rigettato il bene, il nemico lo inseguirà.
4 They made kings, but not by my authority; they established princes, but without my approval. With their silver and gold they made idols for themselves, to their own destruction.	4 Hanno creato dei re, ma senza il mio consenso, han creato dei capi, ma a mia insaputa; han fabbricato con l'argento e con l'oro i loro idoli per la loro rovina.
5 Cast away your calf, O Samaria! my wrath is kindled against them; How long will they be unable to attain innocence in Israel?	5 Sì, è ributtante il tuo vitello, Samaria! La mia ira s'infiamma contro di esso; fino a quando rimarranno immondi
6 The work of an artisan no god at all, Destined for the flames-- such is the calf of Samaria!	6 i figli d'Israele? Esso è opera di un artigiano, non è un Dio! Sì, in fiamme andrà il vitello di Samaria.
7 When they sow the wind, they shall reap the whirlwind; The stalk of grain that forms no ear can yield no flour; Even if it could, strangers would swallow it.	7 Seminano vento, mietono tempesta: il frumento è senza spiga, non farà farina; e se la farà, la divoreranno gli stranieri.
8 Israel is swallowed up; he is now among the nations a thing of no value.	8 Israele è divorato; ormai sono tra le nazioni come un oggetto che non piace più;
9 They went up to Assyria-- a wild ass off on its own-- Ephraim bargained for lovers.	9 perché essi son saliti verso Assur, asino solitario e ritirato, Efraim si è comprato degli amanti.
10 Even though they bargain with the nations, I will now gather an army; King and princes shall shortly succumb under the burden.	10 Anche se li comprano tra le nazioni, ecco io li disperderò ed essi cesseranno ben presto di consacrare re e capi.
11 When Ephraim made many altars to expiate sin, his altars became occasions of sin.	11 Efraim ha moltiplicato gli altari, ma gli altari gli sono serviti per peccare.
12 Though I write for him my many ordinances, they are considered as a stranger's.	12 Scriva io pure una quantità di leggi, son ritenute come quelle d'uno straniero.
13 Though they offer sacrifice, immolate flesh and eat it, the LORD is not pleased with them. He shall still remember their guilt and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt.	13 Amano i sacrifici: li offrano pure! La loro carne, la mangino pure! Il Signore non li gradisce. Ormai sta per ricordarsi delle loro colpe e per punire i loro peccati: essi ritorneranno in Egitto.
14 Israel has forgotten his maker and built palaces. Judah, too, has fortified many cities, but I will send fire upon his cities, to devour their castles.	14 Israele ha dimenticato il suo Creatore e ha costruito i suoi palazzi; Giuda ha moltiplicato le sue fortezze. Io manderò il fuoco sulle sue città che ne distruggerà i palazzi!
