Jeremiah 22

1 The LORD told me this: Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and there deliver this message:	1 Così dice il Signore: «Scendi nella casa del re di Giuda e là proclama questo messaggio.
2 You shall say: Listen to the word of the LORD, king of Judah, who sit on the throne of David, you, your ministers, and your people that enter by these gates!	2 Tu dirai: Ascolta la parola del Signore, o re di Giuda che siedi sul trono di Davide, tu, i tuoi ministri e il tuo popolo, che entrano per queste porte.
3 Thus says the LORD: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victim from the hand of his oppressor. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.	3 Dice il Signore: Praticate il diritto e la giustizia, liberate il derubato dalle mani dell’oppressore, non frodate e non opprimete il forestiero, l’orfano e la vedova, e non spargete sangue innocente in questo luogo.
4 If you carry out these commands, kings who succeed to the throne of David will continue to enter the gates of this palace, riding in chariots or mounted on horses, with their ministers, and their people.	4 Se osserverete lealmente quest’ordine, entreranno ancora per le porte di questa casa i re che siedono sul trono di Davide, montati su carri e cavalli, insieme ai loro ministri e al loro popolo.
5 But if you do not obey these commands, I swear by myself, says the LORD: this palace shall become rubble.	5 Ma se non ascolterete queste parole, io lo giuro per me stesso – oracolo del Signore –, questa casa diventerà una rovina.
6 For thus says the LORD concerning the palace of the king of Judah: Though you be to me like Gilead, like the peak of Lebanon, I will turn you into a waste, a city uninhabited.	6 Poiché così dice il Signore riguardo alla casa del re di Giuda: Tu sei per me come Gàlaad, come una vetta del Libano, ma ti ridurrò simile a un deserto, a città disabitate.
7 Against you I will send destroyers, each with his axe: They shall cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.	7 Sto preparando i tuoi distruttori, ognuno con le armi. Abbatteranno i tuoi cedri migliori, li getteranno nel fuoco.
8 Many people will pass by this city and ask one another: "Why has the LORD done this to so great a city?"	8 Molte genti passeranno vicino a questa città e si chiederanno: “Perché il Signore ha trattato in questo modo una città così grande?”.
9 And the answer will be given: "Because they have deserted their covenant with the LORD, their God, by worshiping and serving strange gods."	9 E risponderanno: “Perché hanno abbandonato l’alleanza del Signore, loro Dio, hanno adorato e servito altri dèi”».
10 Weep not for him who is dead, mourn not for him! Weep rather for him who is going away; never again will he see the land of his birth.	10 Non piangete sul morto e non fate lamenti per lui, ma piangete amaramente su chi parte, perché non tornerà più, non rivedrà la terra natale.
11 Thus says the LORD concerning Shallum, son of Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father as king. He has left this place never to return.	11 Poiché dice il Signore riguardo a Sallum, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, che regna al posto di Giosia, suo padre: «Chi esce da questo luogo non vi farà più ritorno,
12 Rather, he shall die in the place where they exiled him; this land he shall not see again.	12 ma morirà nel luogo dove lo condurranno prigioniero e non rivedrà più questa terra».
13 Woe to him who builds his house on wrong, his terraces on injustice; Who works his neighbor without pay, and gives him no wages.	13 Guai a chi costruisce la sua casa senza giustizia e i suoi piani superiori senza equità, fa lavorare il prossimo per niente, senza dargli il salario,
14 Who says, "I will build myself a spacious house, with airy rooms," Who cuts out windows for it, panels it with cedar, and paints it with vermillion.	14 e dice: «Mi costruirò una casa grande con vasti saloni ai piani superiori», e vi apre finestre e la riveste di tavolati di cedro e la dipinge di rosso.
15 Must you prove your rank among kings by competing with them in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink? He did what was right and just, and it went well with him.	15 Pensi di essere un re, perché ostenti passione per il cedro? Forse tuo padre non mangiava e beveva? Ma egli praticava il diritto e la giustizia e tutto andava bene,
16 Because he dispensed justice to the weak and the poor, it went well with him. Is this not true knowledge of me? says the LORD.	16 tutelava la causa del povero e del misero e tutto andava bene; non è questo che significa conoscermi? Oracolo del Signore.
17 But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except on your own gain, On shedding innocent blood, on practicing oppression and extortion.	17 Invece i tuoi occhi e il tuo cuore non badano che al tuo interesse, a spargere sangue innocente, a commettere violenze e angherie.
18 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: They shall not lament him, "Alas! my brother"; "Alas! sister." They shall not lament him, "Alas, Lord! alas, Majesty!"	18 Per questo così dice il Signore su Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda: «Non faranno per lui il lamento: “Ahi, fratello mio! Ahi, sorella!”. Non faranno per lui il lamento: “Ahi, signore! Ahi, maestà!”.
19 The burial of an ass shall he be given, dragged forth and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.	19 Sarà sepolto come si seppellisce un asino, lo trascineranno e lo getteranno al di là delle porte di Gerusalemme».
20 Scale Lebanon and cry out, in Bashan lift up your voice; Cry out from Abarim, for all your lovers are crushed.	20 Sali sul Libano e grida e in Basan alza la voce; grida dai monti Abarìm, perché tutti i tuoi amanti sono abbattuti.
21 I spoke to you when you were secure, but you answered, "I will not listen." This has been your way from your youth, not to listen to my voice.	21 Ti parlai al tempo della tua prosperità, ma tu dicesti: «Non voglio ascoltare». Questa è stata la tua condotta fin dalla giovinezza: non hai ascoltato la mia voce.
22 The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, your lovers shall go into exile. Surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded because of all your wickedness.	22 Tutti i tuoi pastori saranno pascolo del vento e i tuoi amanti andranno schiavi. Allora ti vergognerai e sarai confusa, per tutta la tua malvagità.
23 You who dwell on Lebanon, who nest in the cedars, How you shall groan when pains come upon you, like the pangs of a woman in travail!	23 Tu che dimori sul Libano, che ti sei fatta il nido tra i cedri, come gemerai quando ti coglieranno i dolori, come le doglie di una partoriente!
24 As I live, says the LORD, if you, Coniah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, are a signet ring on my right hand, I will snatch you from it.	24 «Per la mia vita – oracolo del Signore –, anche se Conìa, figlio di Ioiakìm, re di Giuda, fosse un anello da sigillo nella mia destra, io me lo strapperei.
25 I will deliver you into the hands of those who seek your life; the hands of those whom you fear; the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the Chaldeans.	25 Ti metterò nelle mani di chi vuole la tua vita, nelle mani di quanti tu temi, nelle mani di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, e nelle mani dei Caldei.
26 I will cast you out, you and the mother who bore you, into a different land from the one you were born in; and there you shall die.	26 Scaccerò te e tua madre che ti ha generato in un paese dove non siete nati e là morirete.
27 Neither of them shall come back to the land for which they yearn.	27 Ma nella terra in cui brameranno tornare, non torneranno».
28 Is this man Coniah a vessel despised, to be broken up, an instrument that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants cast out? why thrown into a land they know not?	28 Questo Conìa è forse un vaso spregevole, rotto, un oggetto che non piace più a nessuno? Perché dunque lui e la sua discendenza sono scacciati e gettati in una terra che non conoscono?
29 O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD--	29 Terra, terra, terra! Ascolta la parola del Signore!
30 Thus says the LORD: Write this man down as one childless, who will never thrive in his lifetime! No descendant of his shall achieve a seat on the throne of David as ruler again over Judah.	30 Dice il Signore: «Registrate quest’uomo come uno senza figli, un uomo che non ha successo nella vita, perché nessuno della sua stirpe avrà la fortuna di sedere sul trono di Davide e di regnare ancora su Giuda».
