NEW AMERICAN BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
"This is the ritual for guilt offerings, which are most sacred.1 ' "This is the ritual for the sacrifice of reparation: "It is especially holy.
At the place where the holocausts are slaughtered, there also shall the guilt offering be slaughtered. Its blood shall be splashed on the sides of the altar.2 The victim must be slaughtered where the burnt offerings are slaughtered, and the priest wil pour theblood al around the altar.
All of its fat shall be taken from it and offered up: the fatty tail, the fatty membrane over the inner organs,3 He wil then offer al the fat: the tail, the fat covering the entrails,
as well as the two kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which must be severed above the kidneys.4 both kidneys, the fat on them and on the loins, the mass of fat which he wil remove from the liver andkidneys.
All this the priest shall burn on the altar as an oblation to the LORD. This is the guilt offering.5 The priest will burn these pieces on the altar as food burnt for Yahweh. This is a sacrifice of reparation.
All the males of the priestly line may partake of it; but it must be eaten in a sacred place, since it is most sacred.6 Every male who is a priest may eat it. It wil be eaten inside the holy place; it is especially holy.
"Because the sin offering and the guilt offering are alike, both having the same ritual, the guilt offering likewise belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it.7 "As with the sacrifice for sin, so with the sacrifice of reparation -- the ritual is the same for both. Theoffering with which the priest performs the rite of expiation will revert to the priest.
Similarly, the priest who offers a holocaust for someone may keep for himself the hide of the holocaust that he has offered.8 The hide of the victim presented by someone to the priest to be offered as a burnt offering wil revert tothe priest.
Also, every cereal offering that is baked in an oven or deep-fried in a pot or fried on a griddle shall belong to the priest who offers it,9 Every cereal offering baked in the oven, every cereal offering cooked in the pan or on the griddle wilrevert to the priest who offers it.
whereas all cereal offerings that are offered up dry or mixed with oil shall belong to all of Aaron's sons without distinction.10 Every cereal offering, mixed with oil or dry, wil revert to all the descendants of Aaron withoutdistinction.
"This is the ritual for the peace offerings that are presented to the LORD.11 "This is the ritual for the communion sacrifice to be offered to Yahweh:
When anyone makes a peace offering in thanksgiving, together with his thanksgiving sacrifice he shall offer unleavened cakes mixed with oil, unleavened wafers spread with oil, and cakes made of fine flour mixed with oil and well kneaded.12 "If this is offered as a sacrifice with praise, to the latter must be added an offering of unleavened cakesmixed with oil, unleavened wafers spread with oil, and wheaten flour in the form of cakes mixed with oil.
His offering shall also include loaves of leavened bread along with the victim of his peace offering for thanksgiving.13 This offering, then, must be added to the cakes of leavened bread and to the communion sacrifice withpraise.
From each of his offerings he shall present one portion as a contribution to the LORD; this shall belong to the priest who splashes the blood of the peace offering.14 One of the cakes of this offering must be presented as an offering to Yahweh; it will revert to the priestwho pours out the blood of the communion sacrifice.
"The flesh of the thanksgiving sacrifice shall be eaten on the day it is offered; none of it may be kept till the next day.15 The meat of the victim wil be eaten on the day the offering is made; nothing may be left until nextmorning.
However, if the sacrifice is a votive or a free-will offering, it should indeed be eaten on the day the sacrifice is offered, but what is left over may be eaten on the next day.16 "If the victim is offered as a votive or a voluntary sacrifice, it must be eaten on the day it is offered, and the remainder may be eaten on the fol owing day;
Should any flesh from the sacrifice be left over on the third day, it must be burned up in the fire.17 but on the third day whatever is left of the meat of the victim must be burnt.
If, therefore, any of the flesh of the peace offering is eaten on the third day, it shall not win favor for him nor shall it be reckoned to his credit; rather, it shall be considered as refuse, and anyone who eats of it shall have his guilt to bear.18 "If any of the meat of a victim offered as a communion sacrifice is eaten on the third day, the personwho has offered it wil not be acceptable and wil receive no credit for it. It wil count as rotten meat, and theperson who eats it wil bear the consequences of the guilt.
Should the flesh touch anything unclean, it may not be eaten, but shall be burned up in the fire. "All who are clean may partake of this flesh.19 "Meat that has touched anything unclean cannot be eaten; it must be burnt. "Anyone clean may eat themeat,
If, however, someone while in a state of uncleanness eats any of the flesh of a peace offering belonging to the LORD, that person shall be cut off from his people.20 but anyone unclean who eats the meat of a communion sacrifice offered to Yahweh wil be outlawedfrom his people.
Likewise, if someone touches anything unclean, whether the uncleanness be of human or of animal origin or from some loathsome crawling creature, and then eats of a peace offering belonging to the LORD, that person, too, shall be cut off from his people."21 Furthermore, if anyone touches anything unclean, human or animal, or any foul thing, and then eatsthe meat of a communion sacrifice offered to Yahweh, that individual wil be outlawed from his people." '
The LORD said to Moses,22 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
"Tell the Israelites: You shall not eat the fat of any ox or sheep or goat.23 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "You may not eat the fat of ox, sheep or goat.
Although the fat of an animal that has died a natural death or has been killed by wild beasts may be put to any other use, you may not eat it.24 The fat of an animal that has died a natural death or been savaged by beasts may be used for anyother purpose, but you are not to eat it.
If anyone eats the fat of an animal from which an oblation is made to the LORD, such a one shall be cut off from his people.25 Anyone who eats the fat of an animal offered as food burnt for Yahweh wil be outlawed from hispeople.
Wherever you dwell, you shall not partake of any blood, be it of bird or of animal.26 "Wherever you live, you wil never eat blood, whether it be of bird or of beast.
Every person who partakes of any blood shall be cut off from his people."27 Anyone who eats any blood wil be outlawed from his people." '
The LORD said to Moses,28 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
"Tell the Israelites: He who presents a peace offering to the LORD shall bring a part of it as his special offering to him,29 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Anyone who offers Yahweh a communion sacrifice must bring himpart of his sacrifice as an offering.
carrying in with his own hands the oblations to the LORD. The fat is to be brought in, together with the breast, which is to be waved as a wave offering before the LORD.30 He must bring the food to be burnt for Yahweh, that is to say, the fat adhering to the forequarters, withhis own hands. He wil bring it, and also the forequarters, with which he wil make the gesture of offering beforeYahweh.
The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.31 The priest wil then burn the fat on the altar, and the forequarters wil revert to Aaron and hisdescendants.
Moreover, from your peace offering you shall give to the priest the right leg as a raised offering.32 You will set aside the right thigh from your communion sacrifice and give it to the priest.
The descendant of Aaron who offers up the blood and fat of the peace offering shall have the right leg as his portion,33 The right thigh will be the portion of the descendant of Aaron who offers the blood and fat of thecommunion sacrifice.
for from the peace offerings of the Israelites I have taken the breast that is waved and the leg that is raised up, and I have given them to Aaron, the priest, and to his sons by a perpetual ordinance as a contribution from the Israelites."34 For I have deprived the Israelites of the forequarter offered and the thigh presented in their communionsacrifices, and given them to the priest Aaron and his descendants; this is a perpetual law for the Israelites." '
This is the priestly share from the oblations of the LORD, allotted to Aaron and his sons on the day he called them to be the priests of the LORD;35 Such was the portion of Aaron and his descendants in the food burnt for Yahweh, the day hepresented them to Yahweh for them to become his priests.
on the day he anointed them the LORD ordered the Israelites to give them this share by a perpetual ordinance throughout their generations.36 This was what Yahweh ordered the Israelites to give them on the day they were anointed: a perpetuallaw for al their descendants.
This is the ritual for holocausts, cereal offerings, sin offerings, guilt offerings, (ordination offerings) and peace offerings,37 Such was the ritual for burnt offering, cereal offering, sacrifice for sin, sacrifice of reparation, investituresacrifice and communion sacrifice,
which the LORD enjoined on Moses at Mount Sinai at the time when he commanded the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai to bring their offerings to the LORD.38 which Yahweh laid down for Moses on Mount Sinai, the day he ordered the Israelites to make theirofferings to Yahweh in the desert of Sinai.
