Isaiah 44

1 Hear then, O Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen.	1 Ora ascolta, Giacobbe, servo mio, Israele che ho eletto!
2 Thus says the LORD who made you, your help, who formed you from the womb: Fear not, O Jacob, my servant, the darling whom I have chosen.	2 Così parla il Signore, che ti ha fatto, ti ha formato nel seno materno e ti aiuta: "Non temere, servo mio Giacobbe, Iesurùn, che ho eletto!
3 I will pour out water upon the thirsty ground, and streams upon the dry land; I will pour out my spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing upon your descendants.	3 Perché farò scorrere acqua nella steppa e fiumi nella terra arida. Effonderò il mio spirito sulla tua progenie e la mia benedizione sulla tua posterità.
4 They shall spring up amid the verdure like poplars beside the flowing waters.	4 Cresceranno come erba in mezzo all'acqua, come salici lungo i corsi d'acqua.
5 One shall say, "I am the LORD'S," another shall be named after Jacob, And this one shall write on his hand, "The LORD'S," and Israel shall be his surname.	5 Questi dirà: "Io appartengo al Signore", quegli si chiamerà col nome di Giacobbe; un altro scriverà sulla mano: "del Signore", e verrà indicato con il nome d'Israele".
6 Thus says the LORD, Israel's King and redeemer, the LORD of hosts: I am the first and I am the last; there is no God but me.	6 Così parla il Signore, il re d'Israele, il suo redentore, il Signore degli eserciti: "Io sono il primo e io sono l'ultimo, all'infuori di me non vi è Dio.
7 Who is like me? Let him stand up and speak, make it evident, and confront me with it. Who of old announced future events? Let them foretell to us the things to come.	7 Chi è come me? Lo proclami! Lo annunci e me lo esponga! Chi ha fatto intendere le cose future dall'eternità? Ci annuncino ciò che succederà!
8 Fear not, be not troubled: did I not announce and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses! Is there a God or any Rock besides me?	8 Non lasciatevi spaventare e non temete! Non l'ho forse fatto intendere e annunciato da molto tempo? Voi ne siete testimoni: vi è forse un dio all'infuori di me? Non vi è una roccia! Non ne conosco!".
9 Idol makers all amount to nothing, and their precious works are of no avail, as they themselves give witness. To their shame, they neither see nor know anything; and they are more deaf than men are.	9 I fabbricatori di idoli sono tutti un niente e i loro oggetti preziosi non valgono a nulla. I loro testimoni non vedono e non comprendono, per cui saranno coperti di vergogna.
10 Indeed, all the associates of anyone who forms a god, or casts an idol to no purpose, will be put to shame;	10 Chi forma un dio e fonde il simulacro senza attendere vantaggio?
11 they will all assemble and stand forth, to be reduced to fear and shame.	11 Ecco, tutti i suoi seguaci saranno coperti di confusione e gli artigiani non sono che uomini. Si raccolgano tutti e si presentino! Saranno insieme spaventati e confusi.
12 The smith fashions an iron image, works it over the coals, shapes it with hammers, and forges it with his strong arm. He is hungry and weak, drinks no water and becomes exhausted.	12 Il fabbro lavora il ferro sulle braci e col martello gli dà la forma, lo rifinisce col suo braccio vigoroso, soffre la fame ed è estenuato, non beve acqua e si stanca.
13 The carpenter stretches a line and marks with a stylus the outline of an idol. He shapes it with a plane and measures it off with a compass, making it like a man in appearance and dignity, to occupy a shrine.	13 Il falegname stende il regolo, disegna l'idolo con lo stilo, lo fabbrica con scalpelli, lo misura con il compasso facendolo a forma d'uomo, come una splendida figura umana, perché possa abitare in un tempio.
14 He cuts down cedars, takes a holm or an oak, and lays hold of other trees of the forest, which the Lord had planted and the rain made grow	14 Egli si taglia i cedri, prende un cipresso o una quercia, che fa crescere vigorosi tra gli alberi della foresta; egli pianta un frassino, che la pioggia fa crescere.
15 to serve man for fuel. With a part of their wood he warms himself, or makes a fire for baking bread; but with another part he makes a god which he adores, an idol which he worships.	15 Ciò serve all'uomo per bruciare; ne prende una parte, e si scalda e ancora ne accende il fuoco e cuoce il pane; con il resto fabbrica un dio e l'adora, ne fa un simulacro e lo venera.
16 Half of it he burns in the fire, and on its embers he roasts his meat; he eats what he has roasted until he is full, and then warms himself and says, "Ah! I am warm, I feel the fire."	16 Una metà la brucia al fuoco e sulle sue braci cuoce la carne, mangia l'arrosto e si sazia, inoltre si riscalda e dice: "Ah, mi sono riscaldato, ho visto la fiamma!".
17 Of what remains he makes a god, his idol, and prostrate before it in worship, he implores it, "Rescue me, for you are my god."	17 Con il resto egli fabbrica un dio, un simulacro, lo venera, lo adora e gli rivolge la preghiera dicendo: "Salvami, perché tu sei il mio dio!".
18 The idols have neither knowledge nor reason; their eyes are coated so that they cannot see, and their hearts so that they cannot understand.	18 Non sanno e non comprendono, perché i loro occhi sono coperti in modo da non vedere, i loro cuori impediti in modo da non comprendere.
19 Yet he does not reflect, nor have the intelligence and sense to say, "Half of the wood I burned in the fire, and on its embers I baked bread and roasted meat which I ate. Shall I then make an abomination out of the rest, or worship a block of wood?"	19 Egli non considera nel suo cuore, non ha né scienza né intelligenza per dire: "La metà l'ho bruciata sul fuoco e sulle sue braci ho anche cotto il pane; ho arrostito la carne e l'ho mangiata; con il resto fabbricherò l'abominazione, venererò un pezzo di legno"?
20 He is chasing ashes-a thing that cannot save itself when the flame consumes it; yet he does not say, "Is not this thing in my right hand a fraud?"	20 Egli si pasce di cenere, il suo cuore sedotto lo travia; egli non salverà la sua vita e non dirà: "Non è forse una falsità ciò che tengo in mano?".
21 Remember this, O Jacob, you, O Israel, who are my servant! I formed you to be a servant to me; O Israel, by me you shall never be forgotten:	21 "Ricorda queste cose, o Giacobbe, o Israele, poiché tu sei il mio servo! Ti ho formato, tu sei il mio servo; o Israele, io non ti dimenticherò!
22 I have brushed away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like a mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.	22 Ho disperso come una nube le tue trasgressioni, i tuoi peccati come una nuvola. Ritorna a me, perché io ti ho redento".
23 Raise a glad cry, you heavens: the LORD has done this; shout, you depths of the earth. Break forth, you mountains, into song, you forest, with all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and shows his glory through Israel.	23 Giubilate, o cieli, perché il Signore ha agito! Esultate, profondità della terra! Gridate di gioia, o montagne, e tu, foresta, con tutti i tuoi alberi! Perché il Signore ha redento Giacobbe e ha manifestato la sua gloria in Israele.
24 Thus says the LORD, your redeemer, who formed you from the womb: I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens; when I spread out the earth, who was with me?	24 Così parla il Signore, il tuo redentore, colui che ti ha formato fin dal seno materno: "Io sono il Signore che ha creato tutto, che da solo ho disteso i cieli, ho fissato la terra: chi era con me?
25 It is I who bring to nought the omens of liars, who make fools of diviners; I turn wise men back and make their knowledge foolish.	25 Io anniento i presagi degli indovini e faccio delirare i maghi; faccio indietreggiare i sapienti e rendo folle la loro scienza.
26 It is I who confirm the words of my servants, I carry out the plan announced by my messengers; I say to Jerusalem: Be inhabited; to the cities of Judah: Be rebuilt; I will raise up their ruins.	26 Confermo la parola del mio servo e do successo al consiglio dei miei inviati; io che dico a Gerusalemme: "Sarai abitata" ed alle città di Giuda: "Sarete ricostruite", e riedificherò le sue rovine.
27 It is I who said to the deep: Be dry; I will dry up your wellsprings.	27 Sono io che dico all'oceano: "Séccati", e faccio inaridire i tuoi fiumi.
28 I say of Cyrus: My shepherd, who fulfills my every wish; He shall say of Jerusalem, "Let her be rebuilt," and of the temple, "Let its foundations be laid."	28 Sono io che dico a Ciro: "Mio pastore"! Ed egli compirà tutti i miei desideri; che dico a Gerusalemme: "Sarai riedificata", ed al tempio: "Sarai ristabilito"!".
