Isaiah 38

1 In those days, when Hezekiah was mortally ill, the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and said to him: "Thus says the LORD: Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you shall not recover."	1 In quel tempo Ezechia cadde in una malattia mortale, e il profeta Isaia figlio di Amos, andato a trovarlo, gli disse: « Così dice il Signore: — Metti in ordine le tue cose, perchè tu morrai e non potrai vivere ».
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD:	2 Ezechia, voltata la faccia verso la parete, pregò il Signore,
3 "O LORD, remember how faithfully and wholeheartedly I conducted myself in your presence, doing what was pleasing to you!" And Hezekiah wept bitterly.	3 dicendo: « Te me prego, o Signore, e ti scongiuro a ricordarti come io ho camminato dinanzi a te nella verità e con cuore perfetto, e che ho fatto ciò che è buono dinanzi ai tuoi occhi ». Ezechia si mise a piangere dirottamente.
4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah:	4 E il Signore rivolse la parola ad Isaia, dicendo:
5 "Go, tell Hezekiah: Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you: in three days you shall go up to the LORD'S temple; I will add fifteen years to your life.	5 « Va a dire ad Ezechia: Il Signore Dio di David tuo padre dice cosi: — Ho ascoltata la tua preghiera, ho vedute le tue lacrime, ed ecco aggiungerò quindici anni alla tua vita,
6 I will rescue you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; I will be a shield to this city."	6 e libererò te e questa città dal re d'Assiria, e la proteggerò.
7 (Isaiah answered:) "This will be the sign for you from the LORD that he will do what he has promised:	7 Ecco da parte del Signore il segno che il Signore compirà questa sua parola:
8 See, I will make the shadow cast by the sun on the stairway to the terrace of Ahaz go back the ten steps it has advanced." So the sun came back the ten steps it had advanced.	8 Io farò che l'ombra del sole, calata di dieci gradi sull'orologio a sole di Acaz, ritorni indietro di dieci gradi ». E il sole tornò indietro pei dieci gradi che aveva discesi.
9 The song of Hezekiah, king of Judah, after he had been sick and had recovered from his illness:	9 Scritto di Ezechia re di Giuda, quando, essendo malato, guari dalla sua infermità:
10 Once I said, "In the noontime of life I must depart! To the gates of the nether world I shall be consigned for the rest of my years."	10 « Io dissi: alla metà dei miei giorni dovrò andare alle porte dell'inferno. Ho cercato il resto dei miei anni:
11 I said, "I shall see the LORD no more in the land of the living. No longer shall I behold my fellow men among those who dwell in the world."	11 ho detto: Non vedrò il Signore Dio nella terra dei viventi: non vedrò più gli uomini e gli abitatori della quiete.
12 My dwelling, like a shepherd's tent, is struck down and borne away from me; You have folded up my life, like a weaver who severs the last thread. Day and night you give me over to torment;	12 La mia vita mi è tolta, portata lungi da me, come la tenda di un pastore. La mia vita è tagliata come dal tessitore la tela. Mentre io ordiva mi ha reciso: dalla mattina alla sera mi finirai.
13 I cry out until the dawn. Like a lion he breaks all my bones; (day and night you give me over to torment).	13 Io speravo fino al mattino, ma egli come leone ha stritolate tutte le mie ossa. Dalla mattina, alla sera mi finirai.
14 Like a swallow I utter shrill cries; I moan like a dove. My eyes grow weak, gazing heavenward: O Lord, I am in straits; be my surety!	14 Io grido come rondinino, io gemo come colomba. I miei occhi si sono stancati a guardare in alto. Signore, sono oppresso, prendimi sotto la tua protezione.
15 What am I to say or tell him? He has done it! I shall go on through all my years despite the bitterness of my soul.	15 Che potrò dire? Come potrà prendermi sotto la sua protezione, se egli stesso ha fatto questo? Dinanzi a te ripenserò a tutti gli anni miei nell'amarezza dell'anima mia.
16 Those live whom the LORD protects; yours. . . the life of my spirit. You have given me health and life;	16 Signore, se tale è la vita, se in tali cose è posta la vita del mio spirito, correggimi e rendimi la vita.
17 thus is my bitterness transformed into peace. You have preserved my life from the pit of destruction, When you cast behind your back all my sins.	17 Ecco si cangia in pace la mia più grande amarezza; tu hai liberata l'anima mia dalla perdizione, ti sei gettati dietro le spalle tutti i miei peccati.
18 For it is not the nether world that gives you thanks, nor death that praises you; Neither do those who go down into the pit await your kindness.	18 Certo non ti glorificherà l'inferno, non ti loderà la morte, nè quelli che scendono nella fossa spereranno nella tua verità.
19 The living, the living give you thanks, as I do today. Fathers declare to their sons, O God, your faithfulness.	19 I vivi, i vivi canteranno le tue lodi, come fo io in questo giorno: il padre farà conoscere ai figli la tua verità.
20 The LORD is our savior; we shall sing to stringed instruments In the house of the LORD all the days of our life.	20 Signore, salvami, e noi canteremo i nostri cantici per tutti i giorni di nostra vita nella casa del Signore ».
21 Isaiah then ordered a poultice of figs to be taken and applied to the boil, that he might recover.	21 E Isaia fece portare una mas­sa di fichi, ne fece fare un impiastro sulla piaga, per guarirla.
22 Then Hezekiah asked, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the temple of the LORD?"	22 E Ezechia disse: « Qual segno m'assicurerà di salire alla casa del Signore? »
