Sirach 25

1 With three things I am delighted, for they are pleasing to the LORD and to men: Harmony among brethren, friendship among neighbors, and the mutual love of husband and wife.	1 Di tre cose è innamorata la mia anima, son belle dinanzi al Signore e agli uomini: la concordia tra fratelli, l'amicizia tra vicini, l'uomo e la donna tra loro in armonia.
2 Three kinds of men I hate; their manner of life I loathe indeed: A proud pauper, a rich dissembler, and an old man lecherous in his dotage.	2 Tre specie di gente ha odiato la mia anima e ho detestato molto la loro vita: il povero superbo, il ricco bugiardo, il vecchio adultero per mancanza di senno.
3 What you have not saved in your youth, how will you acquire in your old age?	3 Se non hai raccolto nella giovinezza, che pensi di trovare nella vecchiaia?
4 How becoming to the gray-haired is judgment, and a knowledge of counsel to those on in years!	4 Ai bianchi capelli s'addice il giudizio, agli anziani dare il giusto consiglio.
5 How becoming to the aged is wisdom, understanding and prudence to the venerable!	5 Ai vecchi s'addice la sapienza, agli uomini eminenti la riflessione e il consiglio.
6 The crown of old men is wide experience; their glory, the fear of the LORD.	6 Corona dei vecchi è la molta esperienza, il timore del Signore è il loro vanto.
7 There are nine who come to my mind as blessed, a tenth whom my tongue proclaims: The man who finds joy in his children, and he who lives to see his enemies' downfall.	7 Nove cose penso felici nel mio cuore, e la decima la dico con la bocca: un uomo soddisfatto dei figli, chi vive fino a vedere il crollo dei nemici;
8 Happy is he who dwells with a sensible wife, and he who plows not like a donkey yoked with an ox. Happy is he who sins not with his tongue, and he who serves not his inferior.	8 felice il marito della donna intelligente, chi non ara con il bue e l'asino insieme, chi non incespica con la lingua, chi non deve servire un padrone indegno di lui,
9 Happy is he who finds a friend and he who speaks to attentive ears.	9 felice chi ha trovato la prudenza, chi parla a orecchi che ascoltano;
10 He who finds wisdom is great indeed, but not greater than he who fears the LORD.	10 come è grande chi trova la sapienza, ma non più grande di chi teme il Signore!
11 Fear of the LORD surpasses all else. its possessor is beyond compare.	11 Il timore del Signore eccelle su tutto: a chi paragonerò chi lo possiede?
12 Worst of all wounds is that of the heart, worst of all evils is that of a woman.	12 Qualsiasi ferita, eccetto quella del cuore, qualsiasi male, eccetto quello di una donna;
13 Worst of all sufferings is that from one's foes, worst of all vengeance is that of one's enemies:	13 qualsiasi disgrazia, eccetto quella delle rivali, qualsiasi vendetta, eccetto quella delle emule.
14 No poison worse than that of a serpent, no venom greater than that of a woman.	14 Non c'è veleno peggiore di quello del serpente, e non c'è odio peggiore di quello d'una donna.
15 With a dragon or a lion I would rather dwell than live with an evil woman.	15 Preferisco abitare col leone e il dragone che abitare con una donna perfida.
16 Wickedness changes a woman's looks, and makes her sullen as a female bear.	16 La cattiveria deforma l'aspetto d'una donna, e oscura il suo volto come quello di un'orsa.
17 When her husband sits among his neighbors, a bitter sigh escapes him unawares.	17 Suo marito siede con i vicini e, senza volerlo, geme amaramente.
18 There is scarce any evil like that in a woman; may she fall to the lot of the sinner!	18 Niente è più brutto della donna perfida, è sorte del peccatore imbattersi in essa.
19 Like a sandy hill to aged feet is a railing wife to a quiet man.	19 Come sabbiosa salita per i piedi di un vecchio è la donna loquace per l'uomo quieto.
20 Stumble not through woman's beauty, nor be greedy for her wealth;	20 Non t'affascini la bellezza d'una donna, né ti prenda passione per essa.
21 The man is a slave, in disgrace and shame, when a wife supports her husband.	21 C'è collera, vituperio e vergogna senza fine per l'uomo mantenuto dalla moglie.
22 Depressed mind, saddened face, broken heart--this from an evil wife. Feeble hands and quaking knees-- from a wife who brings no happiness to her husband.	22 Cuore afflitto, volto malinconico e ferita del cuore è la donna perfida.
23 In woman was sin's beginning, and because of her we all die.	23 Mani paralizzate e ginocchia disciolte ha l'uomo se la moglie non lo rallegra.
24 Allow water no outlet, and be not indulgent to an erring wife.	24 Dalla donna è l'origine del peccato e per causa sua tutti moriamo.
25 If she walks not by your side, cut her away from you.	25 Non dare all'acqua via d'uscita né libertà di parola alla donna perfida.
	26 Se non cammina al cenno della mano, separala dalla tua carne.
