1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	1 - Il figlio saggio rallegrerà il padre, ma il figlio stolto è l'afflizione di sua madre.
2 Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but virtue saves from death.	2 I tesori dell'empietà a nulla giovarono, ma la giustizia scamperà dalla morte.
3 The LORD permits not the just to hunger, but the craving of the wicked he thwarts.	3 Il Signore non affliggerà con la fame l'anima del giusto, ma manderà a rovescio le insidie degli empi.
4 The slack hand impoverishes, but the hand of the diligent enriches.	4 La mano oziosa ha fatto impoverire e la mano dei laboriosi prepara la ricchezza. Chi si appoggia sulle menzogne pasce i venti, egli pure insegue uccelli che volano.
5 A son who fills the granaries in summer is a credit; a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.	5 Chi raccoglie durante la mèsse è un figlio giudizioso, chi poltrisce nella state è un figlio che fa vergogna.
6 Blessings are for the head of the just, but a rod for the back of the fool.	6 La benedizione del Signore sul capo del giusto, ma la bocca dei malvagi iniquità ricopre.
7 The memory of the just will be blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 La memoria del giusto è in benedizione e il nome degli empi marcirà.
8 A wise man heeds commands, but a prating fool will be overthrown.	8 Chi è saggio di cuore riceve gli ammonimenti, e lo stolto per ogni parola s'offende.
9 He who walks honestly walks securely, but he whose ways are crooked will fare badly.	9 Chi cammina con semplicità cammina con confidenza, e chi procede per vie oblique sarà scoperto.
10 He who winks at a fault causes trouble, but he who frankly reproves promotes peace.	10 Chi ammicca coll'occhio fa dispiacere, e lo stolto dalle sue labbra sarà percosso.
11 A fountain of life is the mouth of the just, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 Una sorgente di vita è la bocca del giusto, e la bocca dei malvagi iniquità ricopre.
12 Hatred stirs up disputes, but love covers all offenses.	12 L'odio suscita le contese, e la carità su tutte le colpe stende il suo velo.

18 It is the lips of the liar that conceal hostility; but he who spreads accusations is a fool.	18 Le labbra menzognere nascondono odio; chi proferisce villanie è uno scemo.
19 Where words are many, sin is not wanting; but he who restrains his lips does well.	19 Dove molto si ciarla la colpa non mancherà, ma chi modera le sue labbra è prudentissimo.
20 Like choice silver is the just man's tongue; the heart of the wicked is of little worth.	20 Argento fino è la lingua del giusto, e il cuore degli empi non vale niente.
21 The just man's lips nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.	21 Le labbra del giusto istruiscono molti, ma gl'insipienti morranno senza aver messo senno.
22 It is the LORD'S blessing that brings wealth, and no effort can substitute for it.	22 La benedizione del Signore fa gli uomini ricchi, e affanno non li accompagnerà.
23 Crime is the entertainment of the fool; so is wisdom for the man of sense.	23 Lo stolto fa il male quasi per giuoco, ma la sapienza serve all'uomo di discernimento.
24 What the wicked man fears will befall him, but the desire of the just will be granted.	24 Ciò che l'empio teme gli sopravverrà, e ai giusti si accorderà il loro desiderio.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked man is no more; but the just man is established forever.	25 Come passa la burrasca, così svanisce l'empio, ma il giusto è come un fondamento perenne.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, is the sluggard to those who use him as a messenger.	26 Come l'aceto ai denti, come il fumo agli occhi, così il pigro a quei che gli hanno dato commissioni.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are brief.	27 Il timor di Dio aggiunge giorni, ma gli anni degli empi saranno accorciati.
28 The hope of the just brings them joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 L'aspettazione de' giusti è la gioia, ma la speranza degli empi andrà perduta.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him who walks honestly, but to evildoers, their downfall.	29 Le vie del Signore sono la forza dell'innocente e lo sgomento dei malfattori.
30 The just man will never be disturbed, but the wicked will not abide in the land.	30 Il giusto non sarà scosso in eterno, ma gli empi non avranno dimora sulla terra.
31 The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 La bocca del giusto germinerà la sapienza, ma la lingua dei malvagi perirà.
