For the leader; with stringed instruments. A psalm of David. | 1 Unto the end, in verses. A psalm of David. |
Answer when I call, my saving God. In my troubles, you cleared a way; show me favor; hear my prayer. | 2 When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me. Have mercy on me: and hear my prayer. |
How long will you people mock my honor, love what is worthless, chase after lies? Selah | 3 O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? why do you love vanity, and seek after lying? |
Know that the LORD works wonders for the faithful; the LORD hears when I call out. | 4 Know ye also that the Lord hath made his holy one wonderful: the Lord will hear me when I shall cry unto him. |
Tremble and do not sin; upon your beds ponder in silence. | 5 Be angry, and sin not: the things you say in your hearts, be sorry for them upon your beds. |
Offer fitting sacrifice and trust in the LORD. | 6 Offer up the sacrifice of justice, and trust in the Lord: many say, Who sheweth us good things? |
Many say, "May we see better times! LORD, show us the light of your face!" Selah | 7 The light of thy countenance O Lord, is signed upon us: thou hast given gladness in my heart. |
But you have given my heart more joy than they have when grain and wine abound. | 8 By the fruit of their corn, their wine and oil, they are multiplied. |
In peace I shall both lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me secure. | 9 In peace in the selfsame I will sleep, and I will rest: |
for thou, O Lord, singularly hast settled me in hope. |
