NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1 ησυχασαν δε και οι τρεις φιλοι αυτου ετι αντειπειν ιωβ ην γαρ ιωβ δικαιος εναντιον αυτων
But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.2 ωργισθη δε ελιους ο του βαραχιηλ ο βουζιτης εκ της συγγενειας ραμ της αυσιτιδος χωρας ωργισθη δε τω ιωβ σφοδρα διοτι απεφηνεν εαυτον δικαιον εναντιον κυριου
He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.3 και κατα των τριων δε φιλων ωργισθη σφοδρα διοτι ουκ ηδυνηθησαν αποκριθηναι αντιθετα ιωβ και εθεντο αυτον ειναι ασεβη
But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.4 ελιους δε υπεμεινεν δουναι αποκρισιν ιωβ οτι πρεσβυτεροι αυτου εισιν ημεραις
When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.5 και ειδεν ελιους οτι ουκ εστιν αποκρισις εν στοματι των τριων ανδρων και εθυμωθη οργη αυτου
So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.6 υπολαβων δε ελιους ο του βαραχιηλ ο βουζιτης ειπεν νεωτερος μεν ειμι τω χρονω υμεις δε εστε πρεσβυτεροι διο ησυχασα φοβηθεις του υμιν αναγγειλαι την εμαυτου επιστημην
Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!7 ειπα δε οτι ο χρονος εστιν ο λαλων εν πολλοις δε ετεσιν οιδασιν σοφιαν
But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.8 αλλα πνευμα εστιν εν βροτοις πνοη δε παντοκρατορος εστιν η διδασκουσα
It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.9 ουχ οι πολυχρονιοι εισιν σοφοι ουδ' οι γεροντες οιδασιν κριμα
Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!10 διο ειπα ακουσατε μου και αναγγελω υμιν α οιδα
Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.11 ενωτιζεσθε μου τα ρηματα ερω γαρ υμων ακουοντων αχρι ου ετασητε λογους
Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.12 και μεχρι υμων συνησω και ιδου ουκ ην τω ιωβ ελεγχων ανταποκρινομενος ρηματα αυτου εξ υμων
Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"13 ινα μη ειπητε ευρομεν σοφιαν κυριω προσθεμενοι
For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.14 ανθρωπω δε επετρεψατε λαλησαι τοιαυτα ρηματα
They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.15 επτοηθησαν ουκ απεκριθησαν ετι επαλαιωσαν εξ αυτων λογους
Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,16 υπεμεινα ου γαρ ελαλησαν οτι εστησαν ουκ απεκριθησαν
I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!17 υπολαβων δε ελιους λεγει
For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.18 παλιν λαλησω πληρης γαρ ειμι ρηματων ολεκει γαρ με το πνευμα της γαστρος
Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.19 η δε γαστηρ μου ωσπερ ασκος γλευκους ζεων δεδεμενος η ωσπερ φυσητηρ χαλκεως ερρηγως
Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.20 λαλησω ινα αναπαυσωμαι ανοιξας τα χειλη
I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.21 ανθρωπον γαρ ου μη αισχυνθω αλλα μην ουδε βροτον ου μη εντραπω
For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.22 ου γαρ επισταμαι θαυμασαι προσωπον ει δε μη και εμε σητες εδονται
