1 Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.	1 Alors ces trois hommes (Élifaz, Bildad et Sofar) cessèrent de répondre à Job, car il persistait à se considérer comme innocent.
2 But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.	2 Mais Élihou, le fils de Barakel, se mit en colère. Cet homme était de la tribu de Bouz et de la famille de Ram. Il se mit en colère contre Job qui prétendait avoir raison contre Dieu,
3 He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.	3 mais aussi contre ses trois amis, parce qu’ils n’avaient pas trouvé de réponse, et qu’ils avaient ainsi donné tort à Dieu.
4 But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.	4 Élihou s’était tu pendant qu’ils parlaient avec Job, car ils étaient plus âgés que lui.
5 When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.	5 Mais quand Élihou vit qu’aucun des trois n’avait plus rien à répondre, il se mit en colère.
6 So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.	6 Élihou, fils de Barakel, de la tribu de Bouz, prit donc la parole: Je suis jeune encore et vous êtes âgés; c’est pourquoi j’étais intimidé, craintif, et je n’osais communiquer mon savoir.
7 Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!	7 Je me disais: “L’âge parlera, beaucoup d’années sont une garantie de sagesse!”
8 But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.	8 Mais non, elle est dans l’homme un fruit de l’esprit, un souffle du Puissant nous donne de comprendre.
9 It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.	9 Les plus anciens ne sont pas les plus sages, l’âge ne suffit pas pour discerner le vrai.
10 Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!	10 Je vous invite donc à m’écouter, à mon tour je dirai ce que je sais.
11 Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.	11 J’ai attendu tandis que vous parliez, suivant vos raisons tandis que vous cherchiez vos mots.
12 Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.	12 Je vous écoutais attentivement, mais aucun de vous n’a réfuté Job, personne n’a répondu à ses déclarations.
13 Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"	13 Cessez donc de dire que vous avez la sagesse, que c’est doctrine de Dieu et non des hommes.”
14 For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.	14 Je ne prends pas à mon compte vos raisons, je ne lui répondrai pas avec vos arguments.
15 They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.	15 Consternés, vous n’aviez plus rien à dire, les mots vous manquaient.
16 Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,	16 J’attendais! Mais si vous ne parlez plus, si vous restez là sans réponse,
17 I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!	17 à moi de répliquer, à mon tour de montrer mon savoir!
18 For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.	18 Ce ne sont pas les mots qui me manquent, une conviction intime me presse:
19 Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.	19 c’est en moi comme un vin qui fermente et faute d’issues fait éclater les outres neuves.
20 Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.	20 Parler me soulagera, j’ai besoin de parler et de répondre.
21 I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.	21 Je serai pourtant impartial, sans flatter qui que ce soit,
22 For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.	22 car si je prétendais flatter, bien vite Celui qui m’a fait m’enlèverait.
