1 Once again the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.	1 Nun geschah es eines Tages, da kamen die Gottessöhne, um vor den Herrn hinzutreten; unter ihnen kam auch der Satan, um vor den Herrn hinzutreten.
2 And the LORD said to Satan, "Whence do you come?" And Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming the earth and patrolling it."	2 Da sprach der Herr zum Satan: Woher kommst du? Der Satan antwortete dem Herrn: Die Erde habe ich durchstreift, hin und her.
3 And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you noticed my servant Job, and that there is no one on earth like him, faultless and upright, fearing God and avoiding evil? He still holds fast to his innocence although you incited me against him to ruin him without cause."	3 Der Herr sprach zum Satan: Hast du auf meinen Knecht Ijob geachtet? Seinesgleichen gibt es nicht auf der Erde, so untadelig und rechtschaffen; er fürchtet Gott und meidet das Böse. Noch immer hält er fest an seiner Frömmigkeit, obwohl du mich gegen ihn aufgereizt hast, ihn ohne Grund zu verderben.
4 And Satan answered the LORD and said, "Skin for skin! All that a man has will he give for his life.	4 Der Satan antwortete dem Herrn und sagte: Haut um Haut! Alles, was der Mensch besitzt, gibt er hin für sein Leben.
5 But now put forth your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and surely he will blaspheme you to your face."	5 Doch streck deine Hand aus und rühr an sein Gebein und Fleisch; wahrhaftig, er wird dir ins Angesicht fluchen.
6 And the LORD said to Satan, "He is in your power; only spare his life."	6 Da sprach der Herr zum Satan: Gut, er ist in deiner Hand. Nur schone sein Leben!
7 So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with severe boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.	7 Der Satan ging weg vom Angesicht Gottes und schlug Ijob mit bösartigem Geschwür von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel.
8 And he took a potsherd to scrape himself, as he sat among the ashes.	8 Ijob setzte sich mitten in die Asche und nahm eine Scherbe, um sich damit zu schaben.
9 Then his wife said to him, "Are you still holding to your innocence? Curse God and die."	9 Da sagte seine Frau zu ihm: Hältst du immer noch fest an deiner Frömmigkeit? Lästere Gott und stirb!
10 But he said to her, "Are even you going to speak as senseless women do? We accept good things from God; and should we not accept evil?" Through all this, Job said nothing sinful.	10 Er aber sprach zu ihr: Wie eine Törin redet, so redest du. Nehmen wir das Gute an von Gott, sollen wir dann nicht auch das Böse annehmen? Bei all dem sündigte Ijob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
11 Now when three of Job's friends heard of all the misfortune that had come upon him, they set out each one from his own place: Eliphaz from Teman, Bildad from Shuh, and Zophar from Naamath. They met and journeyed together to give him sympathy and comfort.	11 Die drei Freunde Ijobs hörten von all dem Bösen, das über ihn gekommen war. Und sie kamen, jeder aus seiner Heimat: Elifas aus Teman, Bildad aus Schuach und Zofar aus Naama. Sie vereinbarten hinzugehen, um ihm ihre Teilnahme zu bezeigen und um ihn zu trösten.
12 But when, at a distance, they lifted up their eyes and did not recognize him, they began to weep aloud; they tore their cloaks and threw dust upon their heads.	12 Als sie von fern aufblickten, erkannten sie ihn nicht; sie schrien auf und weinten. Jeder zerriss sein Gewand; sie streuten Asche über ihr Haupt gegen den Himmel.
13 Then they sat down upon the ground with him seven days and seven nights, but none of them spoke a word to him; for they saw how great was his suffering.	13 Sie saßen bei ihm auf der Erde sieben Tage und sieben Nächte; keiner sprach ein Wort zu ihm. Denn sie sahen, dass sein Schmerz sehr groß war.
