Exodus 7

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 The LORD answered him, "See! I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall act as your prophet.	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Vois, j'ai fait de toi un dieu pour Pharaon, et Aaron, ton frère, sera ton prophète.
2 You shall tell him all that I command you. In turn, your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave his land.	2 Toi, tu lui diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai, et Aaron, ton frère, le répétera à Pharaon pour qu'il laisseles Israélites partir de son pays.
3 Yet I will make Pharaoh so obstinate that, despite the many signs and wonders that I will work in the land of Egypt,	3 Pour moi, j'endurcirai le coeur de Pharaon et je multiplierai mes signes et mes prodiges dans le paysd'Egypte.
4 he will not listen to you. Therefore I will lay my hand on Egypt and by great acts of judgment I will bring the hosts of my people, the Israelites, out of the land of Egypt,	4 Pharaon ne vous écoutera pas, alors je porterai la main sur l'Egypte et je ferai sortir mes armées, monpeuple, les Israélites, du pays d'Egypte, avec de grands jugements.
5 so that the Egyptians may learn that I am the LORD, as I stretch out my hand against Egypt and lead the Israelites out of their midst."	5 Ils sauront, les Egyptiens, que je suis Yahvé, quand j'étendrai ma main contre les Egyptiens et que jeferai sortir de chez eux les Israélites."
6 Moses and Aaron did as the LORD had commanded them.	6 Moïse et Aaron firent comme Yahvé leur avait ordonné.
7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.	7 Moïse était âgé de 80 ans et Aaron de 83 ans lorsqu'ils parlèrent à Pharaon.
8 The LORD told Moses and Aaron,	8 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron:
9 "If Pharaoh demands that you work a sign or wonder, you shall say to Aaron: Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will be changed into a snake."	9 "Si Pharaon vous dit d'accomplir un prodige, tu diras à Aaron: Prends ton bâton, jette-le devantPharaon, et qu'il se change en serpent."
10 Then Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it was changed into a snake.	10 Moïse et Aaron allèrent trouver Pharaon et firent comme l'avait ordonné Yahvé. Aaron jeta sonbâton devant Pharaon et ses serviteurs, et il se changea en serpent.
11 Pharaoh, in turn, summoned wise men and sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise by their magic arts.	11 Pharaon à son tour convoqua les sages et les enchanteurs, et, avec leurs sortilèges, les magiciensd'Egypte en firent autant.
12 Each one threw down his staff, and it was changed into a snake. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs.	12 Ils jetèrent chacun son bâton qui se changea en serpent, mais le bâton d'Aaron engloutit leursbâtons.
13 Pharaoh, however, was obstinate and would not listen to them, just as the LORD had foretold.	13 Cependant le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit et il ne les écouta pas, comme l'avait prédit Yahvé.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh is obdurate in refusing to let the people go.	14 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Le coeur de Pharaon s'est appesanti et il a refusé de laisser partir le peuple.
15 Tomorrow morning, when he sets out for the water, go and present yourself by the river bank, holding in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent.	15 Va, demain matin, trouver Pharaon, à l'heure où il se rend au bord de l'eau et tiens-toi à l'attendre surla rive du Fleuve. Tu prendras en main le bâton qui s'est changé en serpent.
16 Say to him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you with the message: Let my people go to worship me in the desert. But as yet you have not listened.	16 Tu lui diras: Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux, m'a envoyé vers toi pour te dire: Laisse partir mon peuple,qu'il me serve dans le désert. Jusqu'à présent tu n'as pas écouté.
17 The LORD now says: This is how you shall know that I am the LORD. I will strike the water of the river with the staff I hold, and it shall be changed into blood.	17 Ainsi parle Yahvé: En ceci tu sauras que je suis Yahvé. Du bâton que j'ai en main, je vais frapper leseaux du Fleuve et elles se changeront en sang.
18 The fish in the river shall die, and the river itself shall become so polluted that the Egyptians will be unable to drink its water."	18 Les poissons du Fleuve crèveront, le Fleuve s'empuantira, et les Egyptiens ne pourront plus boirel'eau du Fleuve."
19 The LORD then said to Moses, "Say to Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt--their streams and canals and pools, all their supplies of water--that they may become blood. Throughout the land of Egypt there shall be blood, even in the wooden pails and stone jars."	19 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Dis à Aaron: Prends ton bâton et étends la main sur les eaux d'Egypte -- sur sesfleuves et sur ses canaux, sur ses marais et sur tous ses réservoirs d'eau -- et elles se changeront en sang, et toutle pays d'Egypte sera plein de sang, même les arbres et les pierres."
20 Moses and Aaron did as the LORD had commanded. Aaron raised his staff and struck the waters of the river in full view of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the water of the river was changed into blood.	20 Moïse et Aaron firent comme l'avait ordonné Yahvé. Il leva son bâton et il frappa les eaux qui sontdans le Fleuve aux yeux de Pharaon et de ses serviteurs, et toutes les eaux qui sont dans le Fleuve se changèrenten sang.
21 The fish in the river died, and the river itself became so polluted that the Egyptians could not drink its water. There was blood throughout the land of Egypt.	21 Les poissons du Fleuve crevèrent et le Fleuve s'empuantit; et les Egyptiens ne purent plus boire l'eaudu Fleuve; il y eut du sang dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same by their magic arts. So Pharaoh remained obstinate and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had foretold.	22 Mais les magiciens d'Egypte avec leurs sortilèges en firent autant; le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit etil ne les écouta pas, comme l'avait prédit Yahvé.
23 He turned away and went into his house, with no concern even for this.	23 Pharaon s'en retourna et rentra dans sa maison sans même prêter attention à cela.
24 All the Egyptians had to dig in the neighborhood of the river for drinking water, since they could not drink the river water.	24 Tous les Egyptiens firent des sondages aux abords du Fleuve en quête d'eau potable, car ils nepouvaient boire l'eau du Fleuve.
25 Seven days passed after the LORD had struck the river.	25 Sept jours s'écoulèrent après que Yahvé eut frappé le Fleuve.
26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him: Thus says the LORD: Let my people go to worship me.	26 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Va trouver Pharaon et dis-lui: Ainsi parle Yahvé: Laisse partir mon peuple,qu'il me serve.
27 If you refuse to let them go, I warn you, I will send a plague of frogs over all your territory.	27 Si tu refuses, toi, de le laisser partir, moi je vais infester de grenouilles tout ton territoire.
28 The river will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and into your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your servants, too, and your subjects, even into your ovens and your kneading bowls.	28 Le Fleuve grouillera de grenouilles, elles monteront et entreront dans ta maison, dans la chambre oùtu couches, sur ton lit, dans les maisons de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple, dans tes fours et dans tes huches.
29 The frogs will swarm all over you and your subjects and your servants."	29 Les grenouilles grimperont même sur toi, sur ton peuple et sur tous tes serviteurs."
