1 Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his stead, since all the older sons had been slain by the band that had come into the fort with the Arabs. Thus Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, reigned as the king of Judah.	1 E GLI abitanti di Gerusalemme costituirono re, in luogo suo, Achazia, suo figliuolo minore; perciocchè quelle schiere ch’erano venute in armi con gli Arabi, aveano uccisi tutti i maggiori. Così regnò Achazia, figliuolo di Gioram, re di Giuda.
2 He was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother was named Athaliah, daughter of Omri.	2 Achazia era d’età di quarantadue anni, quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò un anno in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre era Atalia, figliuola di Omri.
3 He, too, followed the ways of the house of Ahab, because his mother counseled him to act sinfully.	3 Anch’egli camminò nelle vie della casa di Achab; perciocchè sua madre gli era consigliera a far male.
4 To his own destruction, he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab, since they were his counselors after the death of his father.	4 Egli adunque fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, come la casa di Achab; perciocchè, dopo la morte di suo padre, essi furono suoi consiglieri a sua perdizione.
5 He was also following their counsel when he accompanied Jehoram, son of Ahab, king of Israel, to battle against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth-gilead. There Jehoram was wounded by the Arameans.	5 Ed anche, seguitando il lor consiglio, andò con Gioram, figliuolo di Achab, re d’Israele, alla guerra contro ad Hazael, re di Siria, in Ramot di Galaad. E i Siri ferirono Gioram.
6 He returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds he had received at Rama in his battle against Hazael, king of Aram. Because of this illness, Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to visit Jehoram, son of Ahab, in Jezreel.	6 Ed egli se ne ritornò, per farsi medicare in Izreel; perciocchè egli avea delle ferite ch’egli avea ricevute in Rama, mentre egli combatteva con Hazael, re di Siria. Ed Azaria, figliuolo di Gioram re di Giuda, andò a visitare Gioram, figliuolo di Achab, in Izreel; perciocchè egli era infermo.
7 Now it was willed by God for Ahaziah's downfall that he should join Jehoram, for after his arrival he rode out with Jehoram to Jehu, son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut down the house of Ahab.	7 E ciò che egli venne a Gioram, procedette da Dio per la ruina di Achazia; perciocchè, essendo venuto, egli uscì con Gioram contro a Iehu, figliuolo di Nimsi, il quale il Signore avea unto per distruggere la casa di Achab.
8 While Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he also encountered the princes of Judah and the nephews of Ahaziah who were his attendants, and he slew them.	8 E quando Iehu faceva la punizione della casa di Achab, trovò i principali di Giuda, e i figliuoli de’ fratelli di Achazia, i quali servivano ad Achazia, e li uccise.
9 Then he looked for Ahaziah himself. They caught him where he was hiding in Samaria and brought him to Jehu, who put him to death. They buried him, for they said, "He was the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with his whole heart." There remained in Ahaziah's house no one powerful enough to wield the kingship.	9 E cercò Achazia, ed egli fu preso, essendo nascosto in Samaria, e fu menato a Iehu, ed ucciso; e poi fu seppellito; perciocchè fu detto: Egli è il figliuolo di Giosafat, il quale ricercò il Signore con tutto il suo cuore. E non vi fu alcuno della casa di Achazia che avesse il potere di farsi re
10 When Athaliah, mother of Ahaziah, learned that her son was dead, she proceeded to kill off all the royal offspring of the house of Judah.	10 ED Atalia, madre di Achazia, avendo veduto che il suo figliuolo era morto, si levò, e distrusse tutta la progenie reale della casa di Giuda.
11 But Jehosheba, a royal princess, secretly took Ahaziah's son Joash from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. In this way Jehosheba, who was the daughter of King Jehoram, a sister of Ahaziah, and wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid the child from Athaliah's sight, so that she did not put him to death.	11 Ma Iosabat, figliuola del re Gioram, prese Gioas, figliuolo di Achazia, e lo tolse furtivamente d’infra i figliuoli del re che si uccidevano; e lo mise, con la sua balia, nella camera de’ letti. Così Iosabat, figliuola del re Gioram, moglie del sacerdote Gioiada, lo nascose d’innanzi ad Atalia; perciocchè era sorella di Achazia; talchè Atalia non lo fece morire.
12 For six years he remained hidden with them in the house of God, while Athaliah ruled over the land.	12 Ed egli stette con loro nascosto nella Casa di Dio lo spazio di sei anni; ed in quel mezzo tempo Atalia regnava sopra il paese
