1 Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors; he was buried with them in the City of David. Jehoram, his son, succeeded him as king.	1 Giosafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto insieme con loro nella Città di Davide. Al suo posto regnò Ioram, suo figlio.
2 His brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael and Shephatiah; all these were sons of King Jehoshaphat of Judah.	2 Egli aveva dei fratelli, figli di Giosafat: Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia: tutti questi erano figli di Giosafat, re d'Israele.
3 Their father gave them numerous gifts of silver, gold and precious objects, together with fortified cities in Judah, but the kingship he gave to Jehoram because he was the first-born.	3 Il padre fece ad essi ricche donazioni in argento, oro, oggetti preziosi, insieme a città fortificate in Giuda; il regno invece lo diede a Ioram, perché egli era il primogenito.
4 When Jehoram had come into his father's kingdom and had consolidated his power, he put to the sword all his brothers and also some of the princes of Israel.	4 Ma quando Ioram ebbe preso possesso del regno del padre e si rafforzò, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e anche alcuni capi d'Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.	5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni, regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.
6 He conducted himself like the kings of Israel of the line of Ahab, because one of Ahab's daughters was his wife. He did evil in the sight of the LORD,	6 Seguì la condotta dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab; egli infatti aveva per moglie una figlia di Acab. Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.
7 but the LORD would not destroy the house of David because of the covenant he had made with David and because of his promise to give him and his sons a lamp for all time.	7 Tuttavia il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide, a causa dell'alleanza che aveva concluso con Davide e in conformità alla promessa fattagli di concedere per sempre una lampada a lui e ai suoi figli.
8 During his time Edom revolted against the sovereignty of Judah; they chose a king of their own.	8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò al dominio di Giuda e si costituì un re.
9 Thereupon Jehoram crossed over with his officers and all the chariots he had. He arose by night and broke through the Edomites when they had surrounded him and the commanders of his chariots.	9 Allora Ioram con i suoi capi e con tutti i suoi carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Edomiti che avevano accerchiato lui e i comandanti dei carri.
10 However, Edom has continued in revolt against the sovereignty of Judah down to the present time. Libnah also revolted at that time against Jehoram's sovereignty because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.	10 Ma Edom si rese indipendente dal dominio di Giuda fino al giorno d'oggi. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.
11 He also set up high places in the mountains of Judah; he led the inhabitants of Jerusalem into idolatry and seduced Judah.	11 Anch'egli poi eresse delle alture sui monti di Giuda, spingendo alla prostituzione gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e seducendo Giuda.
12 He received a letter from the prophet Elijah with this message: "Thus says the LORD, the God of your ancestor David: 'Because you have not followed the path of your father Jehoshaphat, nor of Asa, king of Judah,	12 Ma gli pervenne uno scritto da parte del profeta Elia che diceva: "Così parla il Signore, Dio di Davide, tuo padre: "Poiché non hai seguito la condotta di Giosafat, tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa, re di Giuda,
13 but instead have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into idolatry, as did the house of Ahab, and also because you have murdered your brothers of your father's house who were better than you,	13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re d'Israele e hai indotto alla prostituzione Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, quelli della famiglia di tuo padre, che erano migliori di te,
14 the LORD will strike your people, your children, your wives, and all that is yours with a great plague;	14 ecco che il Signore sta per colpire con un grande disastro il tuo popolo, i tuoi figli, le tue mogli e tutto ciò che ti appartiene.
15 and you shall have severe pains from a disease in your bowels, while your bowels issue forth because of the disease, day after day.'"	15 Quanto a te, sarai colpito da gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che, per essa, le tue viscere ti usciranno fuori in due giorni".
16 Then the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the animosity of the Philistines and of the Arabs who bordered on the Ethiopians.	16 Il Signore eccitò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano a fianco degli Etiopi.
17 They came up against Judah, invaded it, and carried away all the wealth found in the king's palace, along with his sons and his wives; there was left to him only one son, Jehoahaz, his youngest.	17 Questi marciarono contro Giuda e, dopo averlo invaso, catturarono tutti i beni che si trovavano nella casa reale, compresi i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase più alcun figlio ad eccezione di Acazia, il più piccolo.
18 After these events, the LORD afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels.	18 Dopo tutto ciò il Signore lo colpì con una malattia incurabile agli intestini.
19 As time went on until a period of two years had elapsed, his bowels issued forth because of the disease and he died in great pain. His people did not made a pyre for him like that of his fathers.	19 Andò avanti così per due anni; alla fine del secondo anno gli uscirono fuori le viscere per effetto della malattia e morì in mezzo ad atroci sofferenze. Il suo popolo non gli fece un rogo, come si era fatto per i suoi padri.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. He departed unloved and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	20 Quando divenne re, aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme per otto anni; se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianto e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
