1 After this the Moabites, the Ammonites, and with them some Meunites came to fight against Jehoshaphat.	1 Danach zogen die Moabiter, Ammoniter und mit ihnen ein Teil der Mëuniter gegen Josaphat heran.
2 The message was brought to Jehoshaphat: "A great multitude is coming against you from across the sea, from Edom; they are already in Hazazon-tamar" (which is En-gedi).	2 Man kam und berichtete ihm: "Eine große Übermacht rückt von jenseits des Meeres, von Edom, gegen dich heran und steht in Chazezon-Tamar, das ist Engedi."
3 Jehoshaphat was frightened, and he hastened to consult the LORD. He proclaimed a fast for all Judah.	3 Josaphat geriet in Schrecken und machte sich daran, den Herrn aufzusuchen. Er ließ in ganz Juda ein Fasten ausrufen.
4 Then Judah gathered to seek help from the LORD; from every one of the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.	4 Die Judäer scharten sich zusammen, um vom Herrn Hilfe zu erflehen. Auch aus allen Städten Judas kamen sie herbei, den Herrn zu bitten.
5 Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of the LORD before the new court,	5 Josaphat trat in die Versammlung Judas und Jerusalems im Hause des Herrn, zum neuen Vorhof gewandt.
6 and he said: "LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God in heaven, and do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In your hand is power and might, and no one can withstand you.	6 Er sprach: "Herr, Gott unserer Väter, bist nicht du Gott im Himmel und du Herrscher über alle Königreiche der Völker? In deiner Hand sind Kraft und Stärke, und niemand kann sich mit dir messen.
7 Was it not you, our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and gave it forever to the descendants of Abraham, your friend?	7 Hast nicht du, unser Gott, die Bewohner dieses Landes vor deinem Volk Israel vertrieben und es den Nachkommen deines Freundes Abraham auf ewig verliehen?
8 They have dwelt in it and they built in it a sanctuary to your honor, saying,	8 Sie wohnten darin und bauten hier deinem Namen ein Heiligtum, indem sie sprachen:
9 'When evil comes upon us, the sword of judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you, for your name is in this house, and we will cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save!'	9 Kommen Unheil, Schwert, Überschwemmung, Pest oder Hungersnot über uns, dann treten wir vor dieses Haus und vor dein Angesicht; denn dein Name ist in diesem Haus gegenwärtig. Wir rufen zu dir aus unserer Not, damit du hörst und hilfst.
10 And now, see the Ammonites, Moabites, and those of Mount Seir whom you did not allow Israel to invade when they came from the land of Egypt, but instead they passed them by and did not destroy them.	10 Siehe nun, die Ammoniter, Moabiter und die Bewohner des Gebirges Seïr, deren Gebiet zu betreten du den Israeliten bei ihrem Auszug aus dem Land Ägypten verwehrt hast, so daß sie sich ihnen fernhielten, ohne sie zu vernichten,
11 See how they are now repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you have given us.	11 siehe, diese vergelten es uns nun damit, daß sie kommen, um uns aus deinem Eigentum zu vertreiben, das du uns verliehen hast.
12 O our God, will you not pass judgment on them? We are powerless before this vast multitude that comes against us. We are at a loss what to do, hence our eyes are turned toward you."	12 Unser Gott, willst du nicht über sie Gericht halten? Wir sind machtlos vor dieser gewaltigen Menge, die gegen uns heranzieht. Wir wissen nicht, was wir tun sollen. Nur auf dich sind unsere Augen gerichtet."
13 All Judah was standing before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their young sons.	13 Ganz Juda stand vor dem Herrn, auch ihre Angehörigen samt Frauen und Kindern.
14 And the spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the clan of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly,	14 Da kam inmitten der Versammlung der Geist des Herrn über Jachasiel, den Sohn Sacharjas, des Sohnes Benajas, des Sohnes Jeïels, des Sohnes Mattanjas, einen Leviten aus den Nachkommen Asaphs.
15 and he said: "Listen, all of Judah, inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat! The LORD says to you: 'Do not fear or lose heart at the sight of this vast multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's.	15 Er rief aus: "Merkt auf, Judäer alle, Bewohner Jerusalems, und du, König Josaphat! So spricht der Herr zu euch: Fürchtet euch nicht und laßt euch nicht erschrecken durch diese gewaltige Menge; denn nicht eure, sondern Gottes Sache ist der Krieg!
16 Go down against them tomorrow. You will see them coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will come upon them at the end of the wadi which opens on the wilderness of Jeruel.	16 Morgen sollt ihr wider sie zu Felde ziehe. Sie werden die Blumensteige heraufkommen, und ihr werdet am Ende des Tales vor der Steppe Jeruël auf sie stoßen.
17 You will not have to fight in this encounter. Take your places, stand firm, and see how the LORD will be with you to deliver you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or lose heart. Tomorrow go out to meet them, and the LORD will be with you.'"	17 Aber nicht ihr werdet den Kampf mit ihnen zu bestehen haben; stellt euch auf, bleibt stehen und seht die Rettung, die der Herr euch, Juda und Jerusalem, bringen wird! Habt keine Furcht und Angst! Morgen sollt ihr ihnen entgegenziehen, und der Herr wird mit euch sein."
18 Then Jehoshaphat knelt down with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD in worship.	18 Da verneigte sich Josaphat mit dem Antlitz zur Erde. Auch ganz Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems fielen vor dem Herrn nieder, ihn anzubeten.
19 Levites from among the Kohathites and Korahites rose to sing the praises of the LORD, the God of Israel, in a resounding chorus.	19 Darauf erhoben sich die Leviten, die Angehörigen der Kehatiten, und zwar die Korachiten, um den Herrn, den Gott Israels, mit lauter und jubelnder Stimme zu preisen.
20 In the early morning they hastened out to the wilderness of Tekoa. As they were going out, Jehoshaphat halted and said: "Listen to me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Trust in the LORD, your God, and you will be found firm. Trust in his prophets and you will succeed."	20 Früh am Morgen zog man nach der Steppe von Tekoa. Bei ihrem Aufbruch stellte sich Josaphat hin und sprach: "Hört mich an, Judäer und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems! Vertraut auf den Herrn, euren Gott, und ihr könnt bestehen! Vertraut auf seine Propheten, und ihr habt Erfolg!"
21 After consulting with the people, he appointed some to sing to the LORD and some to praise the holy Appearance as it went forth at the head of the army. They sang: "Give thanks to the LORD, for his mercy endures forever."	21 Nachdem er sich mit dem Kriegsvolk beraten hatte, bestellte er Sänger für den Herrn, die ihn in heiligem Schmuck preisen sollten. Sie schritten den Truppen voran und riefen: "Dankt dem Herrn, denn ewig währt seine Huld!"
22 At the moment they began their jubilant hymn, the LORD laid an ambush against the Ammonites, Moabites, and those of Mount Seir who were coming against Judah, so that they were vanquished.	22 Als sie mit dem Jubelruf und Lobpreis begannen, sandte der Herr Feinde aus dem Hinterhalt gegen die Ammoniter, Moabiter und die Leute vom Gebirge Seïr, die gegen Juda gezogen waren, und sie erlitten eine Niederlage.
23 For the Ammonites and Moabites set upon the inhabitants of Mount Seir and completely exterminated them. And when they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they began to destroy each other.	23 Es stellten sich nämlich die Ammoniter und Moabiter gegen die Bewohner vom Gebirge Seïr, um sie zu vernichten und zu vertilgen. Nachdem sie die Bewohner von Seïr aufgerieben hatten, verhalfen sie sich gegenseitig zum Verderben.
24 When Judah came to the watchtower of the desert and looked toward the throng, they saw only corpses fallen on the ground, with no survivors.	24 Als die Judäer an die Beobachtungsstelle kamen, von der aus man die Wüste überschauen konnte, und nun nach dem Heereshaufen Ausschau hielten, da lagen die Leichen der Feinde auf der Erde. Niemand war entronnen.
25 Jehoshaphat and his people came to take plunder, and they found an abundance of cattle and personal property, garments and precious vessels. They took so much that they were unable to carry it all; they were three days taking the spoil, so great was it.	25 Josaphat kam mit seinen Kriegsleuten zur Plünderung. Man fand bei ihnen in Menge Waren, Kleidungsstücke und kostbare Geräte. Sie nahmen so viel an sich, daß sie es nicht mehr tragen konnten. Drei Tage lang plünderten sie; denn die Beute war gewaltig.
26 On the fourth day they held an assembly in the Valley of Beracah--for there they blessed the LORD; therefore that place has ever since been called the Valley of Beracah.	26 Am vierten Tage scharten sie sich im "Lobpreistal" zusammen. Weil sie dort den Herrn priesen, deshalb heißt jener Ort "Lobpreistal" bis heute.
27 Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat at their head, turned back toward Jerusalem celebrating the joyful victory the LORD had given them over their enemies.	27 Darauf wandten sich alle Männer Judas und Jerusalems mit Josaphat an ihrer Spitze voller Freude zur Heimkehr nach Jerusalem; denn der Herr hatte ihnen große Siegesfreude über ihre Feinde geschenkt.
28 They came to Jerusalem, to the house of the LORD, with harps, lyres and trumpets.	28 Sie kamen nach Jerusalem mit Harfen, Zithern und Trompeten zum Tempel des Herrn.
29 And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands when they heard how the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.	29 Der Schrecken vor Gott aber war über alle Königreiche der (angrenzenden) Länder gekommen, als man davon hörte, daß der Herr gegen die Feinde Israels gekämpft hatte.
30 Thereafter Jehoshaphat's kingdom enjoyed peace, for his God gave him rest on every side.	30 So hatte das Reich Josaphats Frieden. Denn sein Gott hatte ihm ringsum Ruhe verschafft.
31 Thus Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother was named Azubah, daughter of Shilhi.	31 Josaphat regierte als König über Juda. Er war fünfunddreißig Jahre alt, als er die Herrschaft begann, und regierte fünfundzwanzig Jahre in Jerusalem. Der Name seiner Mutter war Asuba, die Tochter Schilchis.
32 He followed the path of his father Asa unswervingly, doing what was right in the LORD'S sight.	32 Er wandelte auf den Wegen seines Vaters Asa und wich nicht von ihnen ab. Er tat, was dem Herrn wohlgefiel.
33 But the high places were not removed, nor as yet had the people fixed their hearts on the God of their fathers.	33 Nur die Höhen wurden nicht abgeschafft; denn noch hatte das Volk sein Herz nicht auf den Gott seiner Väter gerichtet.
34 The rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, can be found written in the chronicle of Jehu, son of Hanani, which is inserted in the book of the kings of Israel.	34 Die übrige Geschichte Josaphats, die frühere und die spätere, ist aufgeschrieben in der Geschichte Jehus, des Sohnes Chananis, die in das Buch der Könige Israels aufgenommen ist.
35 After this, King Jehoshaphat of Judah allied himself with King Ahaziah of Israel, who did evil.	35 Danach verbündete sich Josaphat, der König von Juda, mit Achasja, dem König von Israel. Dieser aber handelte frevelhaft.
36 He joined with him in building ships to sail to Tarshish; the fleet was built at Ezion-geber.	36 Er nahm ihn zum Bundesgenossen, um Schiffe zu bauen, die nach Tarsis fahren sollten. So bauten sie Schiffe in Ezjon-Geber.
37 But Eliezer, son of Dodavahu from Mareshah, prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, "Because you have joined with Ahaziah, the LORD will shatter your work." And the ships were wrecked and were unable to sail to Tarshish.	37 Da weissagte Elieser, der Sohn Dodawahus aus Marescha, wider Josaphat: "Weil du dich mit Achasja in einen Bund eingelassen, wird der Herr dein Werk zerbrechen." Die Schiffe scheiterten und konnten nicht nach Tarsis fahren.
