1 After Rehoboam had consolidated his rule and had become powerful, he abandoned the law of the LORD, he and all Israel with him.	1 Quando Roboamo fu bene stabilito e consolidato nel regno, abbandonò con tutto Israele la legge del Signore.
2 Thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem, for they had been unfaithful to the LORD.	2 E l'anno quinto del regno di Roboamo, siccome essi avevano peccato contro il Signore, Sesac re dell'Egitto salì contro Gerusalemme
3 He came up with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen, and there was no counting the army that came with him from Egypt--Libyans, Sukkites and Ethiopians.	3 con mille duecento carri e sessanta mila cavalieri e con turba senza numero venuta con lui dall'Egitto: Libii, Trogloditi, Etiopi.
4 They captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.	4 Prese le città più forti di Giuda e venne fino a Gerusalemme.
5 Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the commanders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them: "Thus says the LORD: 'You have abandoned me, and therefore I have abandoned you to the power of Shishak.'"	5 Allora Semeia pro­feta si presentò a Roboamo e ai principi di Giuda, che si erano radunati in Gerusalemme, fuggendo dinanzi a Sesac, e disse loro: « Così dice il Signore: Voi avete abbandonato me, e io ho abbandonato voi in mano di Sesac ».
6 However, the commanders of Israel and the king humbled themselves saying, "The LORD is just."	6 I principi d'Israele e il re dissero costernati: « Il Signore è giusto ».
7 When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Because they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them; I will give them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem through Shishak.	7 Quando il Signore ebbe visto che si erano umiliati, la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Semeia in questi termini: « Siccome si sono umiliati, non li disperderò, darò loro un po' di aiuto, e il mio furore non cadrà sopra Gerusalemme per mezzo di Sesac.
8 But they shall be his servants, that they may know what it is to serve me and what it is to serve earthly kingdoms."	8 Però lo serviranno, affinchè conoscano la differenza tra il servire me e il servire i re della terra ».
9 Therefore Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the temple of the LORD and of the king's palace. He took everything, including the gold bucklers that Solomon had made.	9 Sesac re d'Egitto si ritirò adunque da Gerusalemme; ma portò via i tesori della casa del Signore e della casa reale: prese ogni cosa, anche gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone.
10 (To replace them, King Rehoboam made bronze bucklers, which he entrusted to the officers of the guard on duty at the entrance of the royal palace.	10 In luogo di questi scudi d'oro il re ne fece altri di rame e li diede ai capi delle guardie che custodivano il vestibolo del palazzo.
11 Whenever the king visited the temple of the LORD, the troops would come bearing them, and then they would return them to the guardroom.)	11 E quando il re entrava nella casa del Signore, gli scudieri andavano a prenderli, poi li riportavano nel loro arsenale.
12 Because he had humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned from him so that it did not destroy him completely; and in Judah, moreover, good deeds were found.	12 Così, perchè si umiliarono, si distolse da loro l'ira del Signore e non furono sterminati, perchè in Giuda c'erano ancora delle opere buone.
13 King Rehoboam consolidated his power in Jerusalem and continued to rule; he was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city in which, out of all the tribes of Israel, the LORD chose to be honored. Rehoboam's mother was named Naamah, an Ammonite.	13 Roboamo adunque si fortificò in Gerusalemme e regnò. Egli aveva quarant'un anno quan­do incominciò a regnare, e regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città dal Signore eletta fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per stabilirvi il suo nome. La sua madre si chiamava Naama, l'Ammanita.
14 He did evil, for he had not truly resolved to seek the LORD.	14 Egli fece il male e non dispose il suo cuore a cercare il Si­gnore.
15 The acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are written, as is well known, in the history of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer (his family record). There was war continually between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.	15 Le gesta di Roboamo, dalle prime alle ultime, sono scritte nei libri di Semeia profeta e di Addo il veggente e con esattezza esposte. Ci fu guerra continua tra Roboamo e Geroboamo.
16 Rehoboam rested with his ancestors; he was buried in the City of David. His son Abijah succeeded him as king.	16 Roboamo si addormentò coi suoi padri, fu sepolto nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Abia.
