1 After Rehoboam had consolidated his rule and had become powerful, he abandoned the law of the LORD, he and all Israel with him.	1 Mais une fois devenu fort, avec le pouvoir bien en mains, Roboam abandonna la Loi de Yahvé et tout Israël le suivit.
2 Thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem, for they had been unfaithful to the LORD.	2 Comme on avait été infidèle à Yahvé, Chéchonk, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem en la cinquième année du règne de Roboam.
3 He came up with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen, and there was no counting the army that came with him from Egypt--Libyans, Sukkites and Ethiopians.	3 Il avait avec lui 1 200 chars et 60 000 cavaliers, et c’était une foule innombrable qui était venue d’Égypte avec lui: des Libyens, des Soukiens et des Kouchites.
4 They captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.	4 Il s’empara des villes fortifiées de Juda et arriva à Jérusalem.
5 Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the commanders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them: "Thus says the LORD: 'You have abandoned me, and therefore I have abandoned you to the power of Shishak.'"	5 Le prophète Chémaya vint alors trouver Roboam et les chefs de Juda qui s’étaient repliés à Jérusalem devant Chéchonk. Il leur dit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Vous m’avez abandonné? Eh bien moi aussi je vous abandonnerai aux mains de Chéchonk.”
6 However, the commanders of Israel and the king humbled themselves saying, "The LORD is just."	6 Les chefs d’Israël et le roi s’humilièrent: “Yahvé est juste, dirent-ils.”
7 When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Because they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them; I will give them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem through Shishak.	7 Lorsque Yahvé vit qu’ils s’humiliaient, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée ainsi à Chémaya: “Puisqu’ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai pas. Je les délivrerai dans peu de temps et ma fureur ne se répandra pas sur Jérusalem par la main de Chéchonk.
8 But they shall be his servants, that they may know what it is to serve me and what it is to serve earthly kingdoms."	8 Cependant ils deviendront ses serviteurs et ils verront la différence entre me servir et servir les puissances étrangères.”
9 Therefore Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the temple of the LORD and of the king's palace. He took everything, including the gold bucklers that Solomon had made.	9 Chéchonk roi d’Égypte mit la main sur Jérusalem et il ramassa les trésors du Temple de Yahvé et ceux du palais royal: il prit tout. Comme il avait pris les boucliers d’or qu’avait faits Salomon,
10 (To replace them, King Rehoboam made bronze bucklers, which he entrusted to the officers of the guard on duty at the entrance of the royal palace.	10 le roi Roboam fit faire à leur place des boucliers de bronze qu’on remit aux chefs des gardes du palais royal.
11 Whenever the king visited the temple of the LORD, the troops would come bearing them, and then they would return them to the guardroom.)	11 Chaque fois que le roi se rendait à la Maison de Yahvé, les gardes venaient les prendre, puis ils les reportaient à la salle des gardes.
12 Because he had humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned from him so that it did not destroy him completely; and in Judah, moreover, good deeds were found.	12 Comme Israël s’était humilié, la colère de Yahvé se détourna de lui et ne le détruisit pas complètement: il y avait encore du bon en Juda.
13 King Rehoboam consolidated his power in Jerusalem and continued to rule; he was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city in which, out of all the tribes of Israel, the LORD chose to be honored. Rehoboam's mother was named Naamah, an Ammonite.	13 Le roi Roboam renforça son autorité à Jérusalem où il fut vraiment roi; il avait 41 ans quand il monta sur le trône et il régna 17 ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahvé avait choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y faire habiter son Nom. Sa mère était Naama l’Ammonite.
14 He did evil, for he had not truly resolved to seek the LORD.	14 Il fit le mal et ne s’appliqua pas à rechercher Yahvé de tout son cœur.
15 The acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are written, as is well known, in the history of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer (his family record). There was war continually between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.	15 Les actes de Roboam, depuis les premiers jusqu’aux derniers, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans les actes du prophète Chémaya et du voyant Iddo? Il y eut une guerre continuelle entre Roboam et Jéroboam.
16 Rehoboam rested with his ancestors; he was buried in the City of David. His son Abijah succeeded him as king.	16 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra dans la Cité de David. Son fils Abiya régna à sa place.
