1 When David had grown old and was near the end of his days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.	1 Cuando David ya era un anciano de edad muy avanzada, proclamó a su hijo Salomón rey de Israel.
2 He then gathered together all the leaders of Israel, together with the priests and the Levites.	2 Reunió a todos los jefes de Israel, a los sacerdotes y a los levitas,
3 The Levites thirty years old and above were counted, and their total number was found to be thirty-eight thousand men.	3 y se hizo el censo de los levitas mayores de treinta años: su número, contados uno por uno, sumaba 38.000 hombres.
4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to direct the service of the house of the LORD, six thousand were to be officials and judges,	4 De estos, 24.000 estaban al frente del servicio de la Casa del Señor; 6.000 eran escribas y jueces,
5 four thousand were to be gatekeepers, and four thousand were to praise the LORD with the instruments which David had devised for praise.	5 4.000 porteros, y los otros 4.000 alababan al Señor con los instrumentos que David había fabricado con ese fin.
6 David divided them into classes according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.	6 David los distribuyó por clases, según los hijos de Leví: Gersón, Quehat y Merarí.
7 To the Gershonites belonged Ladan and Shimei.	7 Los descendientes de Gersón fueron Ladán y Simei.
8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, then Zetham and Joel; three in all.	8 Los hijos de Ladán fueron Iejiel, el primero, y luego, Zetam y Joel: tres en total.
9 The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran; three. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.	9 Los hijos de Simei fueron Selomit, Jaziel y Harán: tres en total. Estos fueron los jefes de sus familias de Ladán.
10 The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zizah, Jeush, and Beriah; these were the sons of Shimei, four in all.	10 Los hijos de Simei fueron Iájat, Zizá, Ieús y Beriá. Estos fueron los cuatro hijos de Simei.
11 Jahath was the chief and Zizah was second to him; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons, and therefore they were classed as a single family, fulfilling a single office.	11 Iájat era el jefe y Zizá el segundo; Ieús y Beriá no tuvieron muchos hijos, por lo cual fueron registrados en el censo como una sola familia.
12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel; four in all.	12 Los descendientes de Quehat fueron Amram, Ishar, Hebrón y Uziel: cuatro en total.
13 The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to be consecrated as most holy, he and his sons forever, to offer sacrifice before the LORD, to minister to him, and to bless his name forever.	13 Los hijos de Amram fueron Aarón y Moisés. Aarón fue separado, junto con sus hijos, para consagrar perpetuamente las cosas santísimas, para quemar incienso delante del Señor, y para servirlo y bendecir en su Nombre eternamente.
14 As for Moses, however, the man of God, his sons were counted as part of the tribe of Levi.	14 En cuanto a Moisés, hombre de Dios, sus hijos fueron contados en la tribu de Leví.
15 The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Los hijos de Moisés fueron Gersón y Eliezer.
16 The sons of Gershom: Shubael the chief.	16 El primer hijo de Gersón fue Sebuel,
17 The sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the chief--Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.	17 y el primer hijo de Eliezer, Rejabías. Eliezer no tuvo más hijos, pero los hijos de Rejabías fueron muy numerosos.
18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.	18 El primer hijo de Ishar fue Selomit.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, the chief, Amariah, the second, Jahaziel, the third, and Jekameam, the fourth.	19 Los hijos de Hebrón fueron Ieriías, el primero, Amarías, el segundo, Iajaziel, el tercero, y Iecamam, el cuarto.
20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah, the chief, and Isshiah, the second.	20 Los hijos de Uziel fueron Micá, el primero, e Isías, el segundo.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.	21 Los hijos de Merarí fueron Majlí y Musí. Los hijos de Majlí fueron Eleazar y Quis.
22 Eleazar died leaving no sons, only daughters; the sons of Kish, their kinsmen, married them.	22 Eleazar murió sin tener hijos; sólo tuvo hijas, y los hijos de Quis, sus hermanos, las tornaron por esposas.
23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth; three in all.	23 Los hijos de Musí fueron Majlí, Eder y Ieremot: tres en total.
24 These were the sons of Levi according to their ancestral houses, the family heads as they were enrolled one by one according to their names. They performed the work of the service of the house of the LORD from twenty years of age upward,	24 Estos son los hijos de Leví, según sus familias, los jefes de ellas, registrados nominalmente en el censo, uno por uno. Ellos estaban dedicados al servicio de la Casa del Señor, a partir de los veinte años de edad.
25 David said: "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and has taken up his dwelling in Jerusalem.	25 Porque David había dicho: «El Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dado paz a su pueblo y habita en Jerusalén para siempre.
26 Henceforth the Levites need not carry the Dwelling or any of its furnishings or equipment.	26 De manera que los levitas ya no tienen que transportar la Morada ni todos los utensilios destinados a su servicio».
27 for David's final orders were to enlist the Levites from the time they were twenty years old.	27 Conforme a estas últimas disposiciones de David, se hizo el cómputo de los hijos de Leví de veinte años para arriba.
28 Rather, their duty shall be to assist the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the LORD, having charge of the courts, the chambers, and the preservation of everything holy: they shall take part in the service of the house of God.	28 Estaban a las órdenes de los hijos de Aarón, para el servicio de la Casa del Señor, teniendo a su cargo los atrios y las habitaciones, la purificación de todas las cosas sagradas y la obra del servicio de la Casa de Dios.
29 They shall also have charge of the showbread, of the fine flour for the cereal offering, of the wafers of unleavened bread, and of the baking and mixing, and of all measures of quantity and size.	29 Asimismo, tenían a su cargo los panes de la ofrenda, la harina para la oblación, las tortas sin levadura, las ofrendas fritas a la sartén o cocidas, y todas las medidas de capacidad y longitud.
30 They must be present every morning to offer thanks and to praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening;	30 Tenían que presentarse cada mañana y cada tarde, para dar gracias y alabar al Señor.
31 and at every offering of holocausts to the LORD on sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, in such numbers as are prescribed, they must always be present before the LORD.	31 Además, debían ofrecer los holocaustos al Señor en los sábados, novilunios y solemnidades, según el número y el rito establecido delante del Señor para siempre.
32 They shall observe what is prescribed for them concerning the meeting tent, the sanctuary, and the sons of Aaron, their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD."	32 En resumen, ellos tenían a su cargo el cuidado de la Carpa del Encuentro y la custodia del Santuario, y debían servir a los hijos de Aarón, sus hermanos, en el culto de la Casa del Señor.
