1 At the beginning of the following year, the time when kings go to war, Joab led the army out in force, laid waste the land of the Ammonites, and went on to besiege Rabbah, while David himself remained in Jerusalem. When Joab had attacked Rabbah and destroyed it,	1 Im folgenden Jahre aber führte Joab zu der Zeit, wo die Könige ins Feld zu ziehen pflegen, das Heer ins Feld und verwüstete das Land der Ammoniter; dann zog er hin und belagerte Rabba, während David in Jerusalem geblieben war. Als Joab dann Rabba erobert und zerstört hatte,
2 David took the crown of Milcom from the idol's head. It was found to weigh a talent of gold; and it contained precious stones, which David wore on his own head. He also brought out a great amount of booty from the city.	2 nahm David ihrem Götzen Milkom die Krone vom Haupt – diese wog, wie er feststellte, ein Talent Gold und war mit einem kostbaren Edelstein besetzt; der kam (nun) auf das Haupt Davids –; und er führte aus der Stadt eine überaus reiche Beute weg.
3 He deported the people of the city and set them to work with saws, iron picks, and axes. Thus David dealt with all the cities of the Ammonites. Then he and his whole army returned to Jerusalem.	3 Die Bevölkerung aber, die sich dort vorfand, ließ er wegführen und stellte sie als Zwangsarbeiter an die Sägen, an die eisernen Picken und die Äxte. Ebenso verfuhr er mit allen übrigen Städten der Ammoniter. Dann kehrte David mit dem ganzen Heere nach Jerusalem zurück.
4 Afterward there was another battle with the Philistines, at Gezer. At that time, Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, one of the descendants of the Raphaim, and the Philistines were subdued.	4 Später kam es dann nochmals zum Kampf mit den Philistern bei Geser. Damals erschlug der Husathiter Sibbechai den Sippai, einen von den Riesenkindern, und so wurden sie gedemütigt.
5 Once again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan, the son of Jair, slew Lahmi, the brother of Goliath of Gath, whose spear shaft was like a weaver's heddle-bar.	5 Als dann nochmals ein Kampf mit den Philistern stattfand, erschlug Elhanan, der Sohn Jairs, Lahmi, den Bruder Goliaths aus Gath, dessen Speerschaft wie ein Weberbaum war. –
6 In still another battle, at Gath, they encountered a giant, also a descendant of the Raphaim, who had six fingers to each hand and six toes to each foot; twenty-four in all.	6 Als es dann wiederum zum Kampf bei Gath kam, war da ein Mann von riesiger Größe, der je sechs Finger und sechs Zehen hatte, im ganzen vierundzwanzig; auch dieser stammte von dem Riesengeschlecht.
7 He defied Israel, and Jonathan, the son of Shimea, David's brother, slew him.	7 Er hatte die Israeliten verhöhnt; aber Jonathan, der Sohn Simeas, des Bruders Davids, erschlug ihn.
8 These were the descendants of the Raphaim of Gath who died at the hands of David and his servants.	8 Diese drei stammten aus dem Riesengeschlecht in Gath und fielen durch die Hand Davids und seiner Krieger.
