1 After David had taken up residence in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, "See, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD dwells under tentcloth."	1 Lorsque David était déjà dans sa maison, il dit au prophète Nathan: “Voilà, je vis dans une maison de cèdre mais l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé demeure sous une tente de toile.”
2 Nathan replied to David, "Do, therefore, whatever you desire, for God is with you."	2 Nathan dit à David: “Tout ce que tu as dans le cœur, fais-le, car Dieu est avec toi.”
3 But that same night the word of God came to Nathan:	3 Mais cette nuit même, Yahvé dit à Nathan:
4 "Go and tell my servant David, Thus says the LORD: It is not you who are to build a house for me to dwell in.	4 “Va dire à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé: Ce n’est pas toi qui me construiras une Maison pour que j’y habite!
5 For I have never dwelt in a house, from the time when I led Israel onward, even to this day, but I have been lodging in tent or pavilion	5 Je n’ai jamais habité un temple de tout le temps que j’ai conduit Israël jusqu’à aujourd’hui; mais je suis allé de tente en tente, d’un abri à l’autre.
6 as long as I have wandered about with all of Israel. Did I ever say a word to any of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to guide my people, such as, 'Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'	6 Durant tout mon voyage avec les Israélites, ai-je dit à un seul des juges d’Israël que j’avais désignés comme bergers de mon peuple: Pourquoi ne me construis-tu pas un temple en bois de cèdre?
7 Therefore, tell my servant David, Thus says the LORD of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you might become ruler over my people Israel.	7 “Tu vas transmettre à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot: Je t’ai pris derrière le troupeau pour être à la tête d’Israël, mon peuple.
8 I was with you wherever you went, and I cut down all your enemies before you. I will make your name great like that of the greatest on the earth.	8 Je suis allé avec toi partout où tu es allé, et j’ai vaincu tous tes ennemis devant toi. Je rendrai ton nom aussi célèbre que le nom des plus grands sur terre.
9 I will assign a place for my people Israel and I will plant them in it to dwell there henceforth undisturbed; nor shall wicked men ever again oppress them, as they did at first,	9 Je donnerai un lieu à mon peuple Israël; là je les fixerai, et là ils vivront. Ils ne seront plus jamais perturbés, plus jamais les méchants ne les opprimeront.
10 and during all the time when I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that I, the LORD, will build you a house;	10 Le temps est fini où j’établissais des juges sur mon peuple Israël; j’ai soumis tous tes ennemis et je t’ai annoncé que je te bâtirais une maison.
11 so that when your days have been completed and you must join your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you who will be one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.	11 “Et quand tes jours seront finis, que tu devras mourir et être enterré avec tes ancêtres, je te donnerai un successeur sorti de toi, un de tes fils, et je grandirai son royaume.
12 He it is who shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.	12 Il me construira un temple et j’affermirai son trône pour toujours.
13 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me, and I will not withdraw my favor from him as I withdrew it from him who preceded you;	13 Je serai un père pour lui et lui sera pour moi un fils. Je ne lui retirerai pas ma faveur comme j’ai fait pour celui qui régnait avant toi.
14 but I will maintain him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be firmly established forever."	14 Je lui donnerai la charge de ma maison et de mon royaume pour toujours, sa royauté sera ferme à jamais.”
15 All these words and this whole vision Nathan related exactly to David.	15 Nathan raconta à David ces paroles et cette vision.
16 Then David came in and sat in the LORD'S presence, saying: "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you should have brought me as far as I have come?	16 Alors le roi David entra, s’assit devant Yahvé et dit: “Je ne suis pas digne de tout ce que tu as déjà fait pour moi, Yahvé Dieu, et ma famille non plus.
17 And yet, even this you now consider too little, O God! For you have made a promise regarding your servant's family reaching into the distant future, and you have looked on me as henceforth the most notable of men, O LORD God.	17 Pourtant, ô Dieu, ce n’était pas encore assez à tes yeux. Tu me fais maintenant une promesse pour ma descendance qui va loin dans l’avenir. Tu m’as considéré comme un grand homme, ô Yahvé Dieu!
18 What more can David say to you? You know your servant.	18 Que puis-je te dire de plus? Tu connais ton serviteur David.
19 O LORD, for your servant's sake and in keeping with your purpose, you have done this great thing.	19 Tout ce que tu as fait, Yahvé, tu l’as fait par bonté pour ton serviteur et pour manifester ta grandeur.
20 O LORD, there is no one like you and there is no God but you, just as we have always understood.	20 “Ô Yahvé! Nul n’est comme toi! Il n’y a pas de Dieu, excepté toi seul, dont nous ayons entendu les paroles.
21 "Is there, like your people Israel, whom you redeemed from Egypt, another nation on earth whom a god went to redeem as his people? You won for yourself a name for great and awesome deeds by driving out the nations before your people.	21 Y a-t-il un autre peuple sur terre comme ton peuple Israël? Y a-t-il une seule nation sur la terre que Dieu ait achetée pour en faire son peuple? Tu as rendu célèbre ton peuple. Tu as fait pour lui des choses grandes et terribles: tu as chassé les nations devant lui lorsque tu l’as racheté d’Égypte.
22 You made your people Israel your own forever, and you, O LORD, became their God.	22 “Tu as fait du peuple d’Israël ton propre peuple à jamais, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu.
23 Therefore, O LORD, may the promise that you have uttered concerning your servant and his house remain firm forever. Bring about what you have promised,	23 Maintenant, Yahvé, fais que dure la promesse que tu m’as faite au sujet de ma descendance, et agis comme tu l’as dit.
24 that your renown as LORD of hosts, God of Israel, may be great and abide forever, while the house of David, your servant, is established in your presence.	24 Que cette promesse tienne bon et que ton Nom soit exalté à jamais; que l’on puisse dire: “Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, est un Dieu pour Israël”. Fais que ma descendance se tienne fermement devant toi pour toujours.
25 "Because you, O my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house, your servant has made bold to pray before you.	25 “ Ô mon Dieu! Tu as fait savoir à ton serviteur que tu lui construiras une maison; c’est pourquoi ton serviteur a l’audace de te faire cette demande.
26 Since you, O LORD, are truly God and have promised this good thing to your servant,	26 Oui, Yahvé, c’est toi qui promets ce bonheur à ton serviteur, toi qui es vraiment Dieu!
27 and since you have deigned to bless the house of your servant, so that it will remain forever--since it is you, O LORD, who blessed it, it is blessed forever."	27 Qu’il te plaise alors de bénir la maison de ton serviteur, pour qu’elle reste à jamais devant toi. C’est toi, Yahvé, qui as béni, elle est bénie à jamais!”
