1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, began his seventeen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	1 No ano vinte e três de Joás, filho de Ocozias, rei de Judá, reinou Joacaz, filho de Jeú, sobre Israel em Samaria durante dezassete anos.
2 He did evil in the LORD'S sight, conducting himself like Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and not renouncing the sin he had caused Israel to commit.	2 Fez o mal diante do Senhor, seguiu os pecados de Jeroboão, filho de Nabat, que tinha feito pecar Israel, e não se apartou deles.
3 The LORD was angry with Israel and for a long time left them in the power of Hazael, king of Aram, and of Ben-hadad, son of Hazael.	3 Acendeu-se o furor do Senhor contra os israelitas, que entregou durante todo este tempo nas mãos de Hazael, rei da Síria, e nas mãos de Benadad, filho de Hazael.
4 Then Jehoahaz entreated the LORD, who heard him, since he saw the oppression to which the king of Aram had subjected Israel.	4 Mas Joacaz fez a sua oração diante da face do Senhor e o Senhor ouviu-o, pois viu a aflição de Israel, porque o rei da Síria tinha-os oprimido.
5 So the LORD gave Israel a savior, and the Israelites, freed from the power of Aram, dwelt in their own homes as formerly.	5 E o Senhor deu um salvador aos israelitas. Libertados (por tal salvador) da mão do rei da Síria, os filhos de Israel habitaram nas suas tendas como dantes.
6 Nevertheless, they did not desist from the sins which the house of Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them. The sacred pole also remained standing in Samaria.	6 Todavia, não se apartaram dos pecados da casa de Jeroboão, que tinha feito pecar Israel, mas caminharam neles, porque até o ídolo de Astar te permaneceu em Samaria.
7 No soldiers were left to Jehoahaz, except fifty horsemen with ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, since the king of Aram had destroyed them and trampled them like dust.	7 Da gente (de guerra) não tinham ficado a Joacaz senão cinquenta cavalos, dez carros e dez mil homens de pé, porque o rei da Síria lhe tinha aniquilado o resto e reduzido ao estado do pó que se calca.
8 The rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, with all his valor and accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	8 Quanto ao resto das acções de Joacaz, a todos os seus feitos, ao seu valor, não estão estas coisas escritas no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel?
9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. His son Joash succeeded him as king.	9 Joacaz adormeceu com seus pais, e sepultaram-no em Samaria. Joás, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash, king of Judah, Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, began his sixteen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	10 No ano trinta e sete de Joás, rei de Judá, reinou Joás, filho de Joacaz, sobre Israel, em Samaria, durante dezasseis anos,
11 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not desist from any of the sins which Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them.	11 e fez o que é mau diante do Senhor; não se apartou dos pecados de Jeroboão, filho de Nabat, que tinha feito pecar Israel, mas caminhou neles.
12 (The rest of the acts of Joash, the valor with which he fought against Amaziah, king of Judah, and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	12 Quanto ao resto das acções de Joás, a tudo o que ele fez, ao seu valor, à guerra contra Amasias, rei de Judá, não está tudo isto escrito no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel?
13 Joash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam occupied the throne. Joash was buried with the kings of Israel in Samaria.)	13 Joás adormeceu com seus pais, e Jeroboão subiu ao seu trono. Joás foi sepultado em Samaria com os reis de Israel.
14 When Elisha was suffering from the sickness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to visit him. "My father, my father!" he exclaimed, weeping over him. "Israel's chariots and horsemen!"	14 Estando Eliseu doente da enfermidade de que morreu, Joás, rei de Israel, foi visitá-lo; chorava diante dele e dizia: Meu pai, meu pai! tu és o carro de Israel e o seu condutor.
15 "Take a bow and some arrows," Elisha said to him. When he had done so,	15 Eliseu disse-lhe: Traze-me cá um arco e flechas. Tendo-lhe levado um arco e flechas,
16 Elisha said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." As the king held the bow, Elisha placed his hands over the king's hands	16 Eliseu disse ao rei de Israel: Põe a tua mão sobre o arco. Tendo ele posto a sua mão, Eliseu pôs as suas mãos sobre as do rei,
17 and said, "Open the window toward the east." He opened it. Elisha said, "Shoot," and he shot. The prophet exclaimed, "The LORD'S arrow of victory! The arrow of victory over Aram! You will completely conquer Aram at Aphec."	17 e disse: Abre a janela que olha para o oriente. Tendo-a aberto, disse Eliseu: Atira com uma flecha. E atirou-a. Eliseu disse: Flecha da Salvação de Senhor, flecha da Salvação contra a Síria; tu ferirás a Síria em Afec, até a consumires.
18 Then he said to the king of Israel, "Take the arrows," which he did. Elisha said to him, "Strike the ground!" He struck the ground three times and stopped.	18 Disse mais; Pega nas flechas. Tendo o rei pegado nelas, disse-lhe novamente: Fere a terra com a flecha. Tendo ele ferido três vezes, e parando,
19 Angry with him, the man of God said: "You should have struck five or six times; you would have defeated Aram completely. Now, you will defeat Aram only three times."	19 o homem de Deus irritou-se contra ele, e disse: Se tivesses ferido a terra cinco, ou seis, ou sete vezes, terias derrotado a Síria até lá sua total ruína; agora só a derrotarás três vezes.
20 Elisha died and was buried. At the time, bands of Moabites used to raid the land each year.	20 Morreu Eliseu e sepultaram-no. Neste mesmo ano vieram uns guerrilheiros de Moab sobre o país.
21 Once some people were burying a man, when suddenly they spied such a raiding band. So they cast the dead man into the grave of Elisha, and everyone went off. But when the man came in contact with the bones of Elisha, he came back to life and rose to his feet.	21 Uns que estavam sepultando um homem ao verem os guerrilheiros, lançaram o cadáver no sepulcro de Eliseu. Logo que o cadáver tocou os ossos de Eliseu, o homem ressuscitou e levantou-se sobre os seus pés.
22 King Hazael of Aram oppressed Israel during the entire reign of Jehoahaz.	22 Hazael, rei da Síria, tinha afligido os Israelitas durante todo o reinado de Joacaz,
23 But the LORD was merciful with Israel and looked on them with compassion because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was unwilling to destroy them or to cast them out from his presence.	23 mas o Senhor compadeceu-se deles e tornou para eles por causa do pacto que tinha feito com Abraão, Isac e Jacob, e não os quis perder nem rejeitar inteiramente até ao tempo presente.
24 So when King Hazael of Aram died and his son Ben-hadad succeeded him as king,	24 Morreu Hazael, rei da Síria, e seu filho Benadad reinou em seu lugar.
25 Joash, son of Jehoahaz, took back from Ben-hadad, son of Hazael, the cities which Hazael had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Joash defeated Ben-hadad three times, and thus recovered the cities of Israel.	25 Joás, filho de Joacaz, recobrou de Benadad, filho de Hazael, as cidades que este tinha tomado a Joacaz, seu pai, pelo direito da guerra. Joás derrotou-o três vezes, e restituiu a Israel aquelas cidades.
