1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.	1 Joás tenía siete años cuando inició su reinado.
2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.	2 Comenzó a reinar en el séptimo año de Jehú, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Sibia, y era de Berseba.
3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.	3 Joás hizo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor durante toda su vida, porque el sacerdote Iehoiadá lo había instruido.
4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.	4 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron los lugares altos: el pueblo seguía ofreciendo sacrificios y quemando incienso en los lugares altos.
5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--	5 Joás dijo a los sacerdotes: «Todo el dinero que se aporte a la Casa del Señor como ofrenda consagrada –el dinero en moneda corriente, los aranceles personales según los recursos de cada uno, y todo el dinero que aporte cada uno a la Casa del Señor por propia voluntad –
6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."	6 lo recibirán los sacerdotes para sí mismos, cada uno de la gente que conoce, y tendrán que reparar las partes deterioradas de la Casa, allí donde sea necesario».
7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.	7 Pero el vigesimotercer año del rey Joás, los sacerdotes no habían reparado aún las partes deterioradas de la Casa.
8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."	8 Entonces el rey Joás llamó al sacerdote Iehoiadá y a los demás sacerdotes, y les dijo: «¿Por qué no reparan las partes deterioradas de la Casa? En adelante, ya no recibirán más dinero de la gente que conocen, sino que lo entregarán para reparar la Casa».
9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.	9 Los sacerdotes estuvieron de acuerdo en no recibir dinero del pueblo y en tener que reparar las partes deterioradas de la Casa.
10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.	10 Luego el sacerdote Iehoiadá tomó un cofre, le hizo una abertura en la tapa, y lo colocó al lado del altar, a la derecha de quien entra en la Casa del Señor. Y los sacerdotes guardianes del umbral depositaban allí todo el dinero que se aportaba para la Casa del Señor.
11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.	11 Cuando veían que había mucho dinero en el cofre, el secretario del rey subía con el sumo sacerdote a recoger y contar el dinero que se encontraba en la Casa del Señor.
12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,	12 Después de haberlo contado, ponían el dinero en manos de los que dirigían las obras, de los supervisores de la Casa del Señor, y ellos lo empleaban para pagar a los carpinteros y constructores que trabajaban en la Casa del Señor,
13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.	13 a los albañiles y a los talladores de piedras, y también para comprar la madera y las piedras talladas con que se reparaba la Casa del Señor. Así se cubrían todos los gastos necesarios para reparar la Casa.
14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.	14 Sin embargo, con el dinero que se aportaba para la Casa del Señor no se hacían fuentes de plata, ni cuchillos, ni aspersorios, ni trompetas, ni objetos de oro y plata,
15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.	15 sino que se lo entregaba a los que dirigían las obras, y ellos lo empleaban para reparar la Casa del Señor.
16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.	16 Y no se pedía cuenta a los hombres que recibían el dinero para pagar a los obreros, porque obraban a conciencia.
17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.	17 El dinero de los sacrificios de reparación y de los sacrificios por el pecado, no se lo destinaba a la Casa del Señor, sino que era para los sacerdotes.
18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.	18 Por ese entonces, Jazael, rey de Aram, subió a combatir contra Gat y se apoderó de ella. Luego Jazael se dispuso a subir contra Jerusalén.
19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.	19 Joás, rey de Judá, tomó todos los objetos que habían consagrado Josafat, Joram y Ocozías, sus padres, reyes de Judá, y los que él mismo había consagrado, así como también todo el oro que había en los tesoros de la Casa del Señor y de la casa del rey, y envió todo eso a Jazael, rey de Aram. Así este se alejó de Jerusalén.
20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.	20 El resto de los hechos de Joás y todo lo que él hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Judá?
21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.	21 Sus servidores se sublevaron, urdieron una conspiración y asesinaron a Joás en Bet Miló, mientras él bajaba hacia Silá.
22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.	22 Iozacar, hijo de Simat, y Iehozabad, hijo de Somer, sus servidores, fueron los que lo hirieron de muerte. Lo sepultaron con sus padres en la Ciudad de David. Su hijo Amasías reinó en lugar de él.
