1 When King David was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side,	1 Als nun der König in seinem Hause (= Palast) wohnte, nachdem der HERR ihm Ruhe vor all seinen Feinden ringsum verschafft hatte,
2 he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a tent!"	2 sagte der König (eines Tages) zu dem Propheten Nathan: »Bedenke doch, ich wohne hier in einem Zedernpalast, während die Lade Gottes hinter Zelttüchern steht!«
3 Nathan answered the king, "Go, do whatever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you."	3 Da antwortete Nathan dem König: »Wohlan, führe alles aus, was du im Sinn hast! Denn der HERR ist mit dir!«
4 But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said:	4 Aber noch in derselben Nacht erging das Wort des HERRN an Nathan folgendermaßen:
5 "Go, tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in?	5 »Gehe hin und sage zu meinem Knecht, zu David: ›So hat der HERR gesprochen: Solltest du mir ein Haus zu meiner Wohnung bauen?
6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day on which I led the Israelites out of Egypt to the present, but I have been going about in a tent under cloth.	6 Ich habe ja doch in keinem Hause gewohnt seit der Zeit, als ich die Israeliten aus Ägypten hergeführt habe, bis auf den heutigen Tag, sondern bin in einer Zeltwohnung mit umhergewandert.
7 In all my wanderings everywhere among the Israelites, did I ever utter a word to any one of the judges whom I charged to tend my people Israel, to ask: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'	7 Habe ich etwa, solange ich unter allen Israeliten umhergezogen bin, zu einem von den Richtern Israels, denen ich mein Volk Israel zu weiden geboten hatte, jemals auch nur ein Wort gesagt: Warum habt ihr mir kein Zedernhaus gebaut?‹
8 "Now then, speak thus to my servant David, 'The LORD of hosts has this to say: It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel.	8 Darum sollst du jetzt zu meinem Knecht, zu David, folgendes sagen: ›So hat der HERR der Heerscharen gesprochen: Ich habe dich von der Weide hinter der Herde weggeholt, damit du Fürst über mein Volk, über Israel, sein solltest;
9 I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth.	9 und ich bin bei allem, was du unternommen hast, mit dir gewesen und habe alle deine Feinde vor dir her ausgerottet und habe dir einen großen Namen geschaffen, wie ihn nur die Größten auf Erden haben;
10 I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old,	10 und ich will meinem Volk Israel eine Stätte anweisen und es da fest einpflanzen, damit es an seiner Stätte ruhig wohnen kann und sich nicht mehr zu ängstigen braucht und gewalttätige Menschen es nicht mehr bedrücken wie früher,
11 since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you.	11 seit der Zeit, wo ich Richter über mein Volk Israel bestellt habe; sondern ich will dir Ruhe vor allen deinen Feinden verschaffen; und der HERR verkündigt dir, daß der HERR dir ein Haus bauen wird.
12 And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm.	12 Wenn einst deine Tage voll sind und du dich zu deinen Vätern gelegt hast, dann will ich nach deinem Tode deinen leiblichen Sohn zu deinem Nachfolger erheben und ihm sein Königtum bestätigen.
13 It is he who shall build a house for my name. And I will make his royal throne firm forever.	13 Der soll dann meinem Namen ein haus bauen, und ich will seinen Königsthron feststellen für immer.‹«
14 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. And if he does wrong, I will correct him with the rod of men and with human chastisements;	14 »Ich will ihm Vater sein, und er soll mir Sohn sein, so daß, wenn er sich verfehlt, ich ihn mit einer menschlichen Rute und mit menschlichen Schlägen züchtigen werde;
15 but I will not withdraw my favor from him as I withdrew it from your predecessor Saul, whom I removed from my presence.	15 aber meine Gnade soll nicht von ihm weichen, wie ich sie von Saul, deinem Vorgänger, habe weichen lassen.
16 Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'"	16 Nein, dein Haus und dein Königtum sollen für immer Bestand vor mir haben: dein Thron soll feststehen für immer!‹«
17 Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.	17 Nachdem Nathan diesen Worten und dieser Offenbarung genau entsprechend zu David geredet hatte,
18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, Lord GOD, and who are the members of my house, that you have brought me to this point?	18 ging der König David (in das Gotteszelt) hinein, warf sich vor dem HERRN nieder und betete: »Wer bin ich, HERR mein Gott, und was ist mein Haus, daß du mich bis hierher (= so weit) gebracht hast!
19 Yet even this you see as too little, Lord GOD; you have also spoken of the house of your servant for a long time to come: this too you have shown to man, Lord GOD!	19 Und dies hast du für noch nicht genügend gehalten, HERR mein Gott; denn jetzt hast du auch noch in bezug auf das Haus deines Knechtes Verheißungen für ferne Zeiten gegeben, und zwar nach Menschenweise, HERR mein Gott.
20 What more can David say to you? You know your servant, Lord GOD!	20 Was soll da David noch weiter zu dir sagen? Du selbst kennst ja deinen Knecht, HERR mein Gott.
21 For your servant's sake and as you have had at heart, you have brought about this entire magnificent disclosure to your servant.	21 Um deines Knechtes willen und nach deinem Herzen (= Wohlgefallen) hast du gehandelt, indem du all dieses Große deinem Knecht kundgetan hast.
22 And so-- "Great are you, Lord GOD! There is none like you and there is no God but you, just as we have heard it told.	22 Darum bist du groß, HERR mein Gott; ja, niemand ist dir gleich, und es gibt keinen Gott außer dir nach allem, was wir mit unsern Ohren vernommen haben.
23 What other nation on earth is there like your people Israel, which God has led, redeeming it as his people; so that you have made yourself renowned by doing this magnificent deed, and by doing awe-inspiring things as you cleared nations and their gods out of the way of your people, which you redeemed for yourself from Egypt?	23 Und wo ist ein anderes Volk, das deinem Volk Israel gleicht? Es ist das einzige Volk auf Erden, um deswillen Gott hingegangen ist, es sich zum Eigentumsvolk zu erkaufen und ihm einen Namen zu schaffen und ihm zugut so große Dinge und wunderbare Taten zu vollführen, indem du vor deinem Volk, das du dir aus Ägypten befreit hast, Heidenvölker und ihre Götter vertrieben hast.
24 You have established for yourself your people Israel as yours forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.	24 So hast du dir denn dein Volk Israel für alle Zeiten zum Volk bestätigt (oder: bestimmt), und du, HERR, bist ihr Gott geworden.
25 And now, LORD God, confirm for all time the prophecy you have made concerning your servant and his house, and do as you have promised.	25 Und nun, HERR mein Gott: mache die Verheißung, die du in betreff deines Knechtes und seines Hauses ausgesprochen hast, für alle Zeiten wahr und verfahre so, wie du zugesagt hast!
26 Your name will be forever great, when men say, 'The LORD of hosts is God of Israel,' and the house of your servant David stands firm before you.	26 Dann wird dein Name für immer groß sein, daß man aussprechen wird: ›Der HERR der Heerscharen ist der Gott für Israel‹, und das Haus deines Knechtes David wird Bestand vor dir haben.
27 It is you, LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who said in a revelation to your servant, 'I will build a house for you.' Therefore your servant now finds the courage to make this prayer to you.	27 Denn du selbst, HERR der Heerscharen, Gott Israels, hast deinem Knecht die Offenbarung zuteil werden lassen: ›Ich will dir ein Haus bauen‹; darum hat dein Knecht den Mut gefunden, dieses Gebet an dich zu richten.
28 And now, Lord GOD, you are God and your words are truth; you have made this generous promise to your servant.	28 Nun denn, HERR mein Gott: du bist Gott, und deine Worte sind Wahrheit! Nachdem du deinem Knecht diese herrliche Zusage gemacht hast,
29 Do, then, bless the house of your servant that it may be before you forever; for you, Lord GOD, have promised, and by your blessing the house of your servant shall be blessed forever."	29 so möge es dir nun auch gefallen, das Haus deines Knechtes zu segnen, damit es immerdar vor dir bestehe! Denn du selbst, HERR mein Gott, hast es verheißen. So wird denn das Haus deines Knechtes durch deinen Segen auf ewig gesegnet sein!«
