1 After this Absalom provided himself with chariots, horses, and fifty henchmen.	1 Danach begab es sich, daß Absalom sich Wagen und Pferde anschaffte, dazu fünfzig Mann, die als Leibdiener vor ihm herliefen.
2 Moreover, Absalom used to rise early and stand alongside the road leading to the gate. If someone had a lawsuit to be decided by the king, Absalom would call to him and say, "From what city are you?" And when he replied, "Your servant is of such and such a tribe of Israel,"	2 Auch pflegte Absalom sich alle Morgen früh neben dem Wege nach dem Ratstor aufzustellen; wenn dann jemand einen Rechtsstreit hatte und den König um Entscheidung angehen wollte, rief Absalom ihn an und fragte ihn: »Aus welcher Ortschaft bist du?« Wenn jener dann antwortete: »Dein Knecht kommt aus dem und dem Stamme Israels«,
3 Absalom would say to him, "Your suit is good and just, but there is no one to hear you in the king's name."	3 so sagte Absalom zu ihm: »Deine Sache ist allerdings gut und in Ordnung, aber beim König ist niemand, der dir Gehör schenkt!«
4 And he would continue: "If only I could be appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a lawsuit to be decided might come to me and I would render him justice."	4 Dann fuhr Absalom fort: »Wenn man mich doch zum Richter im Lande bestellte, daß jeder, der eine Streitsache und einen Rechtshandel hat, zu mir käme: ich wollte ihm schon zu seinem Recht verhelfen!«
5 Whenever a man approached him to show homage, he would extend his hand, hold him, and kiss him.	5 Und wenn jemand an ihn herantrat, um sich vor ihm huldigend zu verneigen, so streckte er seine Hand aus, umarmte ihn und küßte ihn.
6 By behaving in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king for judgment, Absalom was stealing away the loyalties of the men of Israel.	6 So machte es Absalom mit allen Israeliten, die zum König kamen, um sich Recht sprechen zu lassen; und so stahl Absalom sich die Herzen der Israeliten.
7 After a period of four years, Absalom said to the king: "Allow me to go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the LORD.	7 Nach Verlauf von vier Jahren aber sagte Absalom zum König: »Ich möchte gern hingehen und in Hebron mein Gelübde einlösen, das ich dem HERRN dargebracht habe.
8 For while living in Geshur in Aram, your servant made this vow: 'If the LORD ever brings me back to Jerusalem, I will worship him in Hebron.'"	8 Denn als ich mich zu Gesur in Syrien aufhielt, hat dein Knecht folgendes Gelübde getan: ›Wenn der HERR mich nach Jerusalem zurückkehren läßt, so will ich dem HERRN ein Dankopfer darbringen.‹«
9 The king wished him a safe journey, and he went off to Hebron.	9 Der König antwortete ihm: »Gehe hin in Frieden!« So machte Absalom sich denn auf den Weg und ging nach Hebron.
10 Then Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel to say, "When you hear the sound of the horn, declare Absalom king in Hebron."	10 Er hatte aber heimlich Boten durch alle Stämme der Israeliten gesandt und sagen lassen: »Sobald ihr Posaunenschall hört, so ruft aus: ›Absalom ist in Hebron König geworden!‹«
11 Two hundred men had accompanied Absalom from Jerusalem. They had been invited and went in good faith, knowing nothing of the plan.	11 Mit Absalom gingen aber auch zweihundert Männer aus Jerusalem nach Hebron, die von ihm zum Opferfest eingeladen waren und arglos mitgingen, ohne von irgend etwas zu wissen.
12 Absalom also sent to Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, an invitation to come from his town, Giloh, for the sacrifices he was about to offer. So the conspiracy gained strength, and the people with Absalom increased in numbers.	12 Außerdem ließ Absalom, als das Opferfest schon im Gange war, den Giloniten Ahithophel, den Ratgeber Davids, aus seinem Wohnort Gilo holen. So gewann die Verschwörung immer weitere Verbreitung, und immer mehr Leute schlossen sich an Absalom an.
13 An informant came to David with the report, "The Israelites have transferred their loyalty to Absalom."	13 Als nun ein Bote bei David eintraf mit der Meldung: »Das Herz der Israeliten hat sich Absalom zugewandt«,
14 At this, David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem: "Up! Let us take flight, or none of us will escape from Absalom. Leave quickly, lest he hurry and overtake us, then visit disaster upon us and put the city to the sword."	14 da befahl David allen seinen Dienern, die in Jerusalem bei ihm waren: »Auf! Wir müssen fliehen! Sonst gibt es für uns keine Rettung vor Absalom! Macht euch eilends auf den Weg, damit er uns nicht zuvorkommt und das Unheil über uns bringt und ein Blutbad in der Stadt anrichtet!«
15 The king's officers answered him, "Your servants are ready, whatever our lord the king chooses to do."	15 Die Diener des Königs antworteten ihm: »Ganz wie unser königlicher Herr es für gut befindet: wir sind deine gehorsamen Diener!«
16 Then the king set out, accompanied by his entire household, except for ten concubines whom he left behind to take care of the palace.	16 So zog denn der König aus, und sein ganzer Hof befand sich in seinem Gefolge; nur zehn Kebsweiber ließ der König zurück, um das Haus (= den Palast) zu hüten.
17 As the king left the city, with all his officers accompanying him, they halted opposite the ascent of the Mount of Olives, at a distance,	17 Als so der König auszog und das ganze Volk (oder: der ganze Hof) ihm auf dem Fuße folgte, machte er beim letzten Hause halt,
18 while the whole army marched past him.As all the Cherethites and Pelethites, and the six hundred men of Gath who had accompanied him from that city, were passing in review before the king,	18 während alle seine Diener neben ihm standen und seine gesamte Leibwache (die Krethi und Plethi, vgl. zu 8,18) und alle Leute des Gathiters (Itthai), sechshundert Mann, die ihm von Gath her gefolgt waren, an dem Könige vorüberzogen.
19 he said to Ittai the Gittite: "Why should you also go with us? Go back and stay with the king, for you are a foreigner and you, too, are an exile from your own country.	19 Da sagte der König zu Itthai aus Gath: »Warum willst auch du mit uns ziehen? Kehre um und bleibe beim König (Absalom)! Du bist ja ein Ausländer und noch dazu aus deiner Heimat verbannt.
20 You came only yesterday, and shall I have you wander about with us today, wherever I have to go? Return and take your brothers with you, and may the LORD be kind and faithful to you."	20 Erst gestern bist du hergekommen, und heute soll ich dich schon mit uns auf die Irrfahrt nehmen, ohne selbst zu wissen, wohin ich gehe? Kehre um und nimm deine Landsleute mit dir zurück! Der HERR möge dir Güte und Treue erweisen!«
21 But Ittai answered the king, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, your servant shall be wherever my lord the king may be, whether for death or for life."	21 Itthai aber erwiderte dem König: »So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr mein Herr und König lebt, nein! An dem Orte, an dem mein Herr und König sein wird, es gehe zum Tode oder zum Leben, da wird auch dein Knecht zu finden sein!«
22 So the king said to Ittai, "Go, then, march on." And Ittai the Gittite, with all his men and all the dependents that were with him, marched on.	22 Da sagte David zu Itthai: »Gut denn, so ziehe vorüber!« Da zog Itthai aus Gath vorüber mit all seinen Leuten und dem ganzen Troß (von Kindern und Frauen), der bei ihm war.
23 Everyone in the countryside wept aloud as the last of the soldiers went by, and the king crossed the Kidron Valley with all the soldiers moving on ahead of him by way of the Mount of Olives, toward the desert.	23 Die ganze Bevölkerung aber weinte laut, während das gesamte Kriegsvolk vorüberzog. Hierauf ging der König über den Bach Kidron, und auch das gesamte Volk zog hinüber in der Richtung nach der Wüste (Juda) hin.
24 Zadok, too (with all the Levite bearers of the ark of the covenant of God), and Abiathar brought the ark of God to a halt until the soldiers had marched out of the city.	24 Da erschienen auch Zadok (und Abjathar) mit allen Leviten, die trugen die Bundeslade Gottes; sie setzten die Lade Gottes dort nieder, und Abjathar brachte Opfer dar, bis alles Volk aus der Stadt vollständig vorübergezogen war.
25 Then the king said to Zadok: "Take the ark of God back to the city. If I find favor with the LORD, he will bring me back and permit me to see it and its lodging.	25 Darauf sagte der König zu Zadok: »Bringe die Lade Gottes in die Stadt zurück! Finde ich Gnade in den Augen des HERRN, so wird er mich zurückführen und mich die Lade und seine Wohnung wiedersehen lassen.
26 But if he should say, 'I am not pleased with you,' I am ready; let him do to me as he sees fit."	26 Spricht er aber so zu mir: ›Ich habe kein Gefallen an dir‹ – nun, hier bin ich! Er tue mir, wie es ihm wohlgefällt!«
27 The king also said to the priest Zadok: "See to it that you and Abiathar return to the city in peace, and both your sons with you, your own son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan.	27 Dann sagte der König weiter zum Priester Zadok: »Du und Abjathar, kehrt ihr ruhig in die Stadt zurück und mit euch eure beiden Söhne, Ahimaaz, dein Sohn, und Jonathan, der Sohn Abjathars.
28 Remember, I shall be waiting at the fords near the desert until I receive information from you."	28 Gebt wohl acht! Ich will in den Niederungen (= Steppen) der Wüste verweilen, bis eine Botschaft von euch kommt und mir Nachricht gibt.«
29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and remained there.	29 So brachten denn Zadok und Abjathar die Lade Gottes nach Jerusalem zurück und blieben dort.
30 As David went up the Mount of Olives, he wept without ceasing. His head was covered, and he was walking barefoot. All those who were with him also had their heads covered and were weeping as they went.	30 David aber stieg die Anhöhe am Ölberg hinan, im Gehen weinend und mit verhülltem Haupt, und er ging barfuß; auch alles Volk, das ihn begleitete, hatte ein jeder das Haupt verhüllt und stieg unter fortwährendem Weinen den Berg hinan.
31 When David was informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom, he said, "O LORD, turn the counsel of Ahithophel to folly!"	31 Als man nun David meldete, daß auch Ahithophel unter den Verschworenen bei Absalom sei, rief David aus: »O HERR, mache doch die Ratschläge Ahithophels zur Torheit!«
32 When David reached the top, where men used to worship God, Hushai the Archite was there to meet him, with rent garments and dirt upon his head.	32 Als David dann auf der Höhe angelangt war, wo man Gott anzubeten pflegt, kam ihm plötzlich der Arkiter Husai mit zerrissenem Gewand und mit Erde auf dem Haupt entgegen.
33 David said to him: "If you come with me, you will be a burden to me.	33 David sagte zu ihm: »Wenn du mit mir weiter zögest, würdest du mir nur zur Last fallen;
34 But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, 'Let me be your servant, O king; I was formerly your father's servant, but now I will be yours,' you will undo for me the counsel of Ahithophel.	34 wenn du aber in die Stadt zurückkehrst und zu Absalom sagst: ›O König, ich will dein Diener sein! Wie ich bisher deines Vaters Diener gewesen bin, so will ich jetzt dein Diener sein!‹ – so könntest du mir die Ratschläge Ahithophels vereiteln.
35 You will have the priests Zadok and Abiathar there with you. If you hear anything from the royal palace, you shall report it to the priests Zadok and Abiathar,	35 Dort sind ja auch die Priester Zadok und Abjathar bei dir; teile also alles, was du aus dem Hause (= Palast) des Königs erfährst, sofort den Priestern Zadok und Abjathar mit!
36 who have there with them both Zadok's son Ahimaaz and Abiathar's son Jonathan. Through them you shall send on to me whatever you hear."	36 Sie haben dort ihre beiden Söhne bei sich, Zadok den Ahimaaz und Abjathar den Jonathan; durch diese laßt mir Nachricht von allem zukommen, was ihr in Erfahrung bringt.«
37 So David's friend Hushai went into the city of Jerusalem as Absalom was about to enter it.	37 So begab sich denn Davids vertrauter Freund Husai nach Jerusalem zurück, als Absalom gerade in die Stadt einzog.
