1 After this Absalom provided himself with chariots, horses, and fifty henchmen.	1 In seguito Assalonne si preparò un carro, cavalli e cinquanta uomini che corressero davanti a lui.
2 Moreover, Absalom used to rise early and stand alongside the road leading to the gate. If someone had a lawsuit to be decided by the king, Absalom would call to him and say, "From what city are you?" And when he replied, "Your servant is of such and such a tribe of Israel,"	2 Assalonne si alzava presto e si poneva a lato della strada di accesso della porta della città. Così, se uno aveva una causa e doveva andare dal re per il giudizio, Assalonne lo chiamava e gli diceva: "Di quale città sei?". Rispondeva: "Il tuo servo è di una tribù d'Israele".
3 Absalom would say to him, "Your suit is good and just, but there is no one to hear you in the king's name."	3 Assalonne gli diceva: "Vedi, le tue richieste sono buone e giuste, ma tu non hai chi ti ascolti da parte del re".
4 And he would continue: "If only I could be appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a lawsuit to be decided might come to me and I would render him justice."	4 Poi Assalonne esclamava: "Chi mi costituirà giudice nel paese? A me potrebbe venire ognuno che avesse una lite e un giudizio e gli renderei giustizia!".
5 Whenever a man approached him to show homage, he would extend his hand, hold him, and kiss him.	5 Avveniva che, quando qualcuno si avvicinava per prostrarsi davanti a lui, egli allungava la mano, lo prendeva e lo baciava.
6 By behaving in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king for judgment, Absalom was stealing away the loyalties of the men of Israel.	6 In questo modo Assalonne agì con ogni Israelita che veniva dal re per il giudizio e così Assalonne seduceva il cuore degli uomini d'Israele.
7 After a period of four years, Absalom said to the king: "Allow me to go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the LORD.	7 Quattro anni dopo Assalonne disse al re: "Lascia che io vada a compiere a Ebron il mio voto che feci al Signore.
8 For while living in Geshur in Aram, your servant made this vow: 'If the LORD ever brings me back to Jerusalem, I will worship him in Hebron.'"	8 Infatti il tuo servo ha fatto questo voto durante la permanenza a Ghesùr in Aram: "Se il Signore mi ricondurrà a Gerusalemme, sacrificherò al Signore in Ebron".
9 The king wished him a safe journey, and he went off to Hebron.	9 Il re gli disse: "Va' in pace!". Egli si mosse per andare a Ebron.
10 Then Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel to say, "When you hear the sound of the horn, declare Absalom king in Hebron."	10 Ma Assalonne mandò emissari in tutte le tribù d'Israele a dire: "Quando sentirete il suono del corno, direte: "Assalonne è diventato re a Ebron!".
11 Two hundred men had accompanied Absalom from Jerusalem. They had been invited and went in good faith, knowing nothing of the plan.	11 Con Assalonne erano andate da Gerusalemme duecento persone che, essendo invitate, vi andarono ingenuamente, senza sapere niente.
12 Absalom also sent to Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, an invitation to come from his town, Giloh, for the sacrifices he was about to offer. So the conspiracy gained strength, and the people with Absalom increased in numbers.	12 Nella circostanza dell'offerta dei suoi sacrifici, Assalonne mandò a chiamare Achitòfel il ghilonita, consigliere di Davide, dalla sua città di Ghilo. Così la cospirazione si consolidò e il popolo andò sempre più aumentando intorno ad Assalonne.
13 An informant came to David with the report, "The Israelites have transferred their loyalty to Absalom."	13 Un messaggero andò da Davide per dirgli: "Il cuore di ogni israelita segue Assalonne!".
14 At this, David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem: "Up! Let us take flight, or none of us will escape from Absalom. Leave quickly, lest he hurry and overtake us, then visit disaster upon us and put the city to the sword."	14 Allora Davide disse a tutti i servi che erano con lui a Gerusalemme: "Su, fuggiamo, perché non abbiamo scampo davanti ad Assalonne. Affrettatevi a partire, perché non ci colga all'improvviso e faccia cadere su di noi il disastro e colpisca la città a fil di spada".
15 The king's officers answered him, "Your servants are ready, whatever our lord the king chooses to do."	15 I servi del re risposero: "Come decide in tutto il re, mio signore! Ecco, noi siamo tuoi servi!".
16 Then the king set out, accompanied by his entire household, except for ten concubines whom he left behind to take care of the palace.	16 Così il re uscì a piedi con tutta la sua famiglia, ma lasciò dieci concubine a custodire la casa.
17 As the king left the city, with all his officers accompanying him, they halted opposite the ascent of the Mount of Olives, at a distance,	17 Il re uscì dunque a piedi con tutto il popolo e si fermarono all'ultima casa.
18 while the whole army marched past him.As all the Cherethites and Pelethites, and the six hundred men of Gath who had accompanied him from that city, were passing in review before the king,	18 Tutti i suoi servi sfilavano accanto a lui; anche tutti i Cretei e i Peletei e tutti i Gattiti, seicento uomini che l'avevano seguito da Gat, sfilavano al cospetto del re.
19 he said to Ittai the Gittite: "Why should you also go with us? Go back and stay with the king, for you are a foreigner and you, too, are an exile from your own country.	19 Allora il re disse a Ittài di Gat: "Perché vieni anche tu con noi? Torna e rimani con il re, perché tu sei forestiero ed esule dal tuo paese.
20 You came only yesterday, and shall I have you wander about with us today, wherever I have to go? Return and take your brothers with you, and may the LORD be kind and faithful to you."	20 Sei venuto appena ieri e oggi dovrei farti vagare con noi, mentre io vado alla ventura? Ritorna e porta i tuoi fratelli con te. Il Signore usi con te misericordia e fedeltà!".
21 But Ittai answered the king, "As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, your servant shall be wherever my lord the king may be, whether for death or for life."	21 Ma Ittài rispose al re: "Per la vita del Signore e per la vita del re, mio signore, dovunque sarà il re, mio signore, sia per la morte che per la vita, là sarà il tuo servo!".
22 So the king said to Ittai, "Go, then, march on." And Ittai the Gittite, with all his men and all the dependents that were with him, marched on.	22 Allora Davide disse a Ittài: "Avanti, passa!". E Ittài di Gat passò insieme con i suoi uomini e con la famiglia che era con lui.
23 Everyone in the countryside wept aloud as the last of the soldiers went by, and the king crossed the Kidron Valley with all the soldiers moving on ahead of him by way of the Mount of Olives, toward the desert.	23 Tutti piangevano ad alta voce, mentre tutto il popolo sfilava. Il re stava in piedi nella valle del Cedron, mentre tutto il popolo passava davanti a lui, diretto verso il deserto.
24 Zadok, too (with all the Levite bearers of the ark of the covenant of God), and Abiathar brought the ark of God to a halt until the soldiers had marched out of the city.	24 Ecco, anche Zadòk e tutti i leviti addetti al trasporto dell'arca del patto di Dio, deposero l'arca di Dio presso Ebiatàr, finché tutto il popolo finì di uscire dalla città.
25 Then the king said to Zadok: "Take the ark of God back to the city. If I find favor with the LORD, he will bring me back and permit me to see it and its lodging.	25 Il re disse a Zadòk: "Riporta l'arca di Dio in città. Se troverò grazia agli occhi del Signore, egli mi farà ritornare e me la farà rivedere insieme con la sua abitazione.
26 But if he should say, 'I am not pleased with you,' I am ready; let him do to me as he sees fit."	26 Ma se dirà: "Non mi compiaccio più in te!", eccomi, faccia di me come pare bene ai suoi occhi!".
27 The king also said to the priest Zadok: "See to it that you and Abiathar return to the city in peace, and both your sons with you, your own son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan.	27 Il re disse al sacerdote Zadòk: "Vedi: torna in pace nella città; Achimaaz tuo figlio e Gionata, figlio di Ebiatàr, vostri due figli, sono con voi.
28 Remember, I shall be waiting at the fords near the desert until I receive information from you."	28 Vedete, io mi fermo presso i guadi del deserto, finché non arrivi da parte vostra una parola per informarmi".
29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and remained there.	29 Allora Zadòk ed Ebiatàr riportarono l'arca di Dio a Gerusalemme e rimasero là.
30 As David went up the Mount of Olives, he wept without ceasing. His head was covered, and he was walking barefoot. All those who were with him also had their heads covered and were weeping as they went.	30 Davide saliva l'erta degli Ulivi; saliva piangendo, a capo coperto, e procedeva scalzo. Tutto il popolo che era con lui si coprì il capo e salì piangendo continuamente.
31 When David was informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom, he said, "O LORD, turn the counsel of Ahithophel to folly!"	31 Uno riferì a Davide: "Achitòfel è tra i congiurati con Assalonne!". Allora Davide esclamò: "Deh, rendi vano il consiglio di Achitòfel, o Signore".
32 When David reached the top, where men used to worship God, Hushai the Archite was there to meet him, with rent garments and dirt upon his head.	32 Mentre Davide giungeva alla cima dove si adora Dio, ecco che Cusài l'archita gli si fece incontro con la sua veste stracciata e con la polvere sul capo.
33 David said to him: "If you come with me, you will be a burden to me.	33 Davide gli disse: "Se tu proseguissi con me, mi saresti di peso.
34 But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, 'Let me be your servant, O king; I was formerly your father's servant, but now I will be yours,' you will undo for me the counsel of Ahithophel.	34 Ma se torni in città e dici ad Assalonne: "Io sono tuo servo, o re! Io fui in passato servo di tuo padre, ma ora sarò servo tuo!", allora mi renderesti vano il consiglio di Achitòfel.
35 You will have the priests Zadok and Abiathar there with you. If you hear anything from the royal palace, you shall report it to the priests Zadok and Abiathar,	35 Non sono là con te i sacerdoti Zadòk ed Ebiatàr? Allora tutto quello che udrai dalla casa del re, lo riferirai ai sacerdoti Zadòk ed Ebiatàr.
36 who have there with them both Zadok's son Ahimaaz and Abiathar's son Jonathan. Through them you shall send on to me whatever you hear."	36 Ecco, sono là con essi i loro due figli, Achimaaz di Zadòk e Gionata di Ebiatàr: per mezzo loro mi farete sapere tutto quello che sentirete".
37 So David's friend Hushai went into the city of Jerusalem as Absalom was about to enter it.	37 Cusài, amico di Davide, arrivò in città, mentre Assalonne entrava a Gerusalemme.
