1 And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.	1 L'arca del Signore rimase nel territorio dei Filistei sette mesi.
2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.	2 Allora i Filistei si rivolsero ai sacerdoti e agl'indovini dicendo: "Che cosa dobbiamo fare dell'arca del Signore? Fateci sapere in che modo la dobbiamo rimandare alla sua sede".
3 And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.	3 Quelli risposero: "Se voi volete rimandare l'arca del Dio d'Israele, non la rimandate senza doni; ma dovete renderle un dono espiatorio: allora guarirete, e saprete perché la sua mano non si allontanava da voi!".
4 Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.	4 Domandarono: "Qual è il dono espiatorio che le dobbiamo fare?". Risposero: "Cinque bubboni d'oro e cinque topi d'oro, secondo il numero dei capi dei Filistei, perché è la stessa piaga per voi tutti e per i vostri capi.
5 Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.	5 Farete modellini dei vostri bubboni e modellini dei vostri topi che mandano in rovina il paese, e darete gloria al Dio d'Israele. Forse la sua mano si farà più leggera su di voi, sui vostri dèi e sulla vostra terra.
6 Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharoah hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?	6 E perché volete intestardirvi come si intestardirono l'Egitto e il faraone? Forse che non li lasciarono partire, quando egli fece sentire il suo rigore, ed essi se ne andarono?
7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:	7 Adesso dunque allestite un carro nuovo e prendete due vitelle allattanti che non abbiano mai portato giogo su di sé, attaccate le due vitelle al carro e conducete via da esse i loro piccoli alla stalla.
8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.	8 Poi prendete l'arca del Signore e ponetela sul carro; gli oggetti d'oro che le offrite in dono di espiazione li deporrete in una cassetta al suo lato: la rimanderete ed essa se ne andrà.
9 And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.	9 Poi osservate: se salirà verso il suo territorio a Bet-Sèmes, fu lui a causarvi questo grande male; altrimenti, sapremo che non è stata la sua mano a colpirci, ma ci è capitata una disgrazia".
10 And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:	10 Così fecero quegli uomini: presero due vitelle allattanti, le legarono al carro e rinchiusero i loro piccoli nella stalla.
11 And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.	11 Poi caricarono l'arca del Signore sul carro insieme con la cassetta, i topi d'oro e i modellini dei loro bubboni.
12 And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.	12 Allora le vitelle si avviarono diritto sulla strada di Bet-Sèmes; procedevano per la stessa via sempre muggendo, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra, mentre i capi dei Filistei andavano dietro ad esse fino al confine di Bet-Sèmes.
13 And they of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.	13 Quelli di Bet-Sèmes stavano mietendo il grano nella vallata; alzati gli occhi, essi scorsero l'arca e gioirono al vederla.
14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.	14 Il carro, arrivato al campo di Giosuè il betsamita, vi si fermò; lì c'era una grande pietra. Allora, spezzati i legni del carro, offrirono le vitelle in olocausto al Signore.
15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.	15 I leviti deposero l'arca del Signore e la cassetta che era con essa, contenente gli oggetti d'oro, e la collocarono presso la grande pietra. Gli uomini di Bet-Sèmes offrirono in quel giorno olocausti e fecero sacrifici al Signore.
16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.	16 I cinque capi dei Filistei stettero ad osservare e poi ritornarono ad Accaron nello stesso giorno.
17 And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;	17 Questi sono i bubboni d'oro che offrirono i Filistei in dono di espiazione al Signore: uno per Asdod, uno per Gaza, uno per Ascalon, uno per Gat, uno per Accaron.
18 And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemite.	18 I topi d'oro furono secondo il numero di tutte le città dei Filistei dei cinque capi, sia città fortificate che villaggi sguarniti. Testimone di ciò è la grande pietra dove deposero l'arca del Signore, e che sta nel campo di Giosuè il betsamita fino al giorno d'oggi.
19 And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.	19 Dio percosse, tra gli uomini di Bet-Sèmes che avevano curiosato nell'arca del Signore, settanta individui su cinquantamila. Il popolo fece lutto perché il Signore l'aveva colpito con un grande flagello.
20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?	20 Allora gli uomini di Bet-Sèmes dissero: "Chi può stare davanti al Signore, un Dio così santo? Da chi la manderemo lontano da noi?".
21 And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.	21 Mandarono messaggeri agli abitanti di Kiriat-Iearim per dire: "I Filistei hanno ricondotto l'arca del Signore, scendete e portatela su da voi".
