1 And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.	1 Stette adunque l’arca del Signore nel paese de' Filistei sette mesi.
2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.	2 E i Filistei convocarono i sacerdoti e gl’indovini, e dissero: Che dobbiam noi fare dell'arca del Signore? Insegnateci il modo di rimandarla al suo luogo. E quelli dissero:
3 And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.	3 Se voi rimandate l'arca del Dio d'Israele, non la rimandate senza nulla, ma rendete a lui quel che dovete per lo peccato, e allora sarete risanati e conoscerete il perchè la mano di lui non cessi di flagellarvi.
4 Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.	4 E quelli dissero: Che dobbiam noi rendergli per lo peccato? Essi risposero:
5 Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.	5 Farete cinque ani di oro, e cinque topi di oro, secondo il numero delle provincie dei Filistei: perocché una stessa piaga avete sofferta tutti voi, e i vostri satrapi. E voi farete la figura degli ani vostri, e la figura de’ topi, i quali han devastata la terra, e darete gloria al Dio d'Israele: e forse egli ritirerà di sopra voi la sua mano, e di sopra gli dei vostri, e le vostre terre.
6 Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharoah hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?	6 Per qual ragione v'indurate voi in cuor vostro, come s'indurò l'Egitto, e Faraone in cuor suo? Non è egli vero, che questi dopo che fu flagellato, allora diede libertà a coloro, ed essi se n’andarono?
7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:	7 Adesso pertanto date di mano all’opera: e fate un carro nuovo, e mettete al carro due vacche che dieno il latte, e che non abbian mai tirato giogo, e chiudete nella stalla le loro rede.
8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.	8 E prenderete l'arca del Signore, e la metterete sul carro, e le figure d'oro offerte da voi per lo peccato le metterete in una cassetta accanto ad essa, e poi lasciatela andare.
9 And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.	9 E starete osservando: e se prenderà la strada che mena al suo paese, e andrà verso Bethsames, egli è che ha fatto a noi male sì grande: se no, la cosa sarà altrimenti, e noi conosceremo che non la sua mano ci ha percossi, ma è stato un accidente.
10 And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:	10 Quelli adunque fecero in tal guisa: e prese due vacche, che allattavano i loro vitelli, le misero al carro, e chiusero nella stalla i vitelli.
11 And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.	11 E misero l’arca di Dio sul carro, e la cassetta contenente i topi d'oro, e le figure degli ani.
12 And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.	12 Or le vacche andavano dirittamente per la strada che conduce a Bethsames, e seguivano lo stesso cammino, andando avanti, e muggendo; e non piegavano nè a destra, nè a sinistra; e i satrapi dei Filistei eglino pure andavano lor dietro sino a' confini di Bethsames.
13 And they of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.	13 Or i Bethsamiti mietevano il grano nella valle, e alzando gli occhi videro l'arca, ed ebbero gran consolazione in vederla.
14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.	14 E il carro andò nel campo di Giosuè di Bethsames, e ivi si fermò. E ivi era una gran pietra; e (i Bethsamiti) spezzarono il carro, e sopra il legname di esso misero le vacche in olocausto al Signore.
15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.	15 E i Leviti deposero l’arca di Dio, e la cassetta che erale accanto, nella quale erano le figure d'oro, e la collocarono sopra quella gran pietra. E quelli di Bethsames offerirono quel dì degli olocausti, e immolarono vittime al Signore.
16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.	16 E i cinque satrapi dei Filistei videro, e tornaron lo stesso dì ad Accaron.
17 And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;	17 Or questi sono gli ani d'oro offerti da’ Filistei al Signore per lo peccato; uno per Azoto, uno per Gaza, uno per Ascalon, uno per Geth, uno per Accaron.
18 And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemite.	18 E tanti topi d'oro quante erano le città delle cinque provincie de' Filistei, cominciando dalle città murate sino a' borghi senza muro, e sino ad Abelgrande, sulla quale posarono l’arca del Signore, la quale era in quel giorno nel campo di Giosuè Bethsamita.
19 And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.	19 Ma (il Signore) punì gli uomini di Bethsames, perchè aveano guardato l'arca del Signore: e mise a morte settanta uomini del popolo, e cinquanta mila della plebe. E il popolo pianse per avere il Signore percosso la plebe con gran flagello.
20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?	20 E gli uomini di Bethsames dissero: Chi potrà stare al cospetto del Signore, di questo Dio santo? E presso di chi andrà egli partendo da noi?
21 And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.	21 E spediron messi agli abitanti di Cariath-iarim, che dicesser loro: I Filistei han ricondotta l’arca del Signore: venite, e riportatela nel vostro paese.
