1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.	1 Ma i Filistei vennero a battaglia cogl'Israeliti: e gli uomini d'Israele fuggirono dal cospetto de' Filistei, e furono trucidati sul monte Gelboe.
2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.	2 E i Filistei si gettarono contro Saul: e contro i suoi figliuoli, e ammazzaron Gionata, e Abinadab, e Melchisua figliuoli di Saul,
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.	3 E tutto il forte della battaglia si volse contro di Saul, e lo inseguirono gli arcieri, ed ei restò gravemente ferito da loro.
4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.	4 E Saul disse al suo scudiere: Sfodera la tua spada, e uccidimi: affinchè sovraggiungendo forse questi incirconcisi, non mi tolgano essi la vita, e mi faccian insulti. E lo scudiere non volle (farlo): perocché era sbigottito sommamente: allora Saul die' di piglio alla spada, e gettovvisi sopra.
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.	5 La qual cosa veduta avendo il suo scudiere, cioè che Saul era morto, si gettò ancor egli sulla sua spada, e morì insieme con lui.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.	6 Morì adunque Saul, e tre suoi figliuoli, e il suo scudiere, e parimente tutti i suoi in quel giorno.
7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.	7 Ma veggendo gli uomini d'Israele, che stavan di là dalla valle, e di là dal Giordano, come gl’Israeliti s'erano dati alla fuga, ed era morto Saul, e i suoi figliuoli, abbandonaron le loro città, e fuggirono: e i Filistei andarono, e le abitarono.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.	8 E il dì seguente andarono i Filistei a spogliare i morti, e trovaron Saul, e i tre suoi figliuoli sul monte Gelboe.
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.	9 E troncarono il capo a Saul, e lo spogliarono delle sue armi, e mandarono all’intorno per tutto il paese dei Filistei ad annunziare tal nuova nel tempio degl' idoli, e a tutto il popolo.
10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.	10 E le armi di lui collocarono nel tempio di Astharoth; e appesero il suo corpo alle mura di Bethsan.
11 And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;	11 Ma avendo udito gli abitanti di Jabes di Galaad tutto quello che i Filistei avean fatto a Saul,
12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.	12 Si mossero tutti gli uomini più valorosi e camminaron tutta notte, e levarono il cadavero di Saul, e i cadaveri de' suoi figliuoli dalle mura di Bethsan, e se ne tornarono a Jabes di Galaad, e ivi li bruciarono.
13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.	13 E preser le loro ossa e le seppellirono nel bosco di Jabes, e digiunarono per sette giorni.
