1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;	1 Estos son los pueblos que Yahveh dejó subsistir para probar con ellos a Israel, a cuantos no habían conocido ninguna de las guerras de Canaán.
2 Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;	2 (Era sólo para que aprendieran las generaciones de los hijos de Israel, para enseñarles el arte de la guerra; por lo menos los que antes no lo habían conocido):
3 Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entering in of Hamath.	3 los cinco príncipes de los filisteos y todos los cananeos, los sidonios y los hititas que vivían en el monte Líbano, desde la montaña de Baal Hermón hasta la entrada de Jamat.
4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.	4 Sirvieron para probar con ellos a Israel, a ver si guardaban los mandamientos que Yahveh había prescrito a sus padres por medio de Moisés.
5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:	5 Y los israelitas habitaron en medio de los cananeos, hititas, amorreos, perizitas, jivitas y jebuseos;
6 And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.	6 se casaron con sus hijas, dieron sus propias hijas a los hijos de aquellos y sirvieron a sus dioses.
7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.	7 Los israelitas hicieron lo que desagradaba a Yahveh. Se olvidaron de Yahveh su Dios y sirvieron a los Baales y a las Aserás.
8 Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.	8 Se encendió la ira de Yahveh contra Israel y los dejó a merced de Kusán Riseatáyim, rey de Edom, y los israelitas sirvieron a Kusán Riseatáyim durante ocho años.
9 And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.	9 Los israelitas clamaron a Yahveh y Yahveh suscitó a los israelitas un libertador que los salvó: Otniel, hijo de Quenaz y hermano menor de Caleb.
10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.	10 El espíritu de Yahveh vino sobre él, fue juez de Israel y salió a la guerra. Yahveh puso en sus manos a Kusán Riseatáyim, rey de Edom y triumfó sobre Kusán Riseatáyim.
11 And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.	11 El país quedó tranquilo cuarenta años. Y murió Otniel, hijo de Quenaz.
12 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.	12 Los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo que desagradaba a Yahveh; y Yahveh fortaleció a Eglón, rey de Moab, por encima de Israel, porque hacían lo que desagradaba a Yahveh.
13 And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.	13 A Eglón se le juntaron los hijos de Ammón y de Amalec; salió y derrotó a Israel, y tomó la ciudad de las Palmeras.
14 So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.	14 Los israelitas estuvieron sometidos a Eglón, rey de Moab, dieciocho años.
15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.	15 Entonces los israelitas clamaron a Yahveh y Yahveh les suscitó un libertador: Ehúd, hijo de Guerá, benjaminita, que era zurdo. Los israelitas le encargaron de llevar el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab.
16 But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.	16 Ehúd se hizo un puñal de dos filos, de un codo de largo, se lo ciño debajo de la ropa sobre el muslo derecho,
17 And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.	17 y presentó el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab. Eglón era un hombre muy obeso.
18 And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.	18 En cuanto terminó de presentar el tributo, Ehúd mandó marchar a la gente que había llevado el tributo;
19 But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.	19 pero él, al llegar a los Idolos que hay en la región de Guilgal, volvió otra vez y dijo: «Tengo un mensaje secreto para ti ¡oh rey!» El rey respondió: ¡Silencio!» y salieron de su presencia todos los que estaban con él.
20 And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.	20 Ehúd se le acercó . El rey estaba sentado en su galería fresca particular. Ehúd le dijo: «Tengo una palabra de Dios para tí». El rey se levantó de su silla.
21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:	21 Ehúd alargó su mano izquierda, cogió el puñal de su cadera derecha y se lo hundió en el vientre.
22 And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.	22 Detrás de la hoja entró incluso el mango, y la grasa se cerró sobre la hoja, pues Ehúd no le sacó el puñal del vientre. Luego escapó por la ventana.
23 Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.	23 Ehúd salió por el pórtico; había cerrado tras de sí las puertas de la galería y echado el cerrojo.
24 When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.	24 Después que se fue, llegaron los criados y vieron que las puertas de la galería tenían echado el cerrojo. Y se dijeron para sí: «Sin duda se está cubriendo los pies en el aposento de la galería fresca».
25 And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.	25 Estuvieron esperando hasta quedar desconcertados, porque no acababan de abrirse las puertas de la galería. Cogieron la llave y abrieron. Su amo yacía en tierra, muerto.
26 And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.	26 Mientras esperaban, Ehúd había huido: había pasado los Idolos y se había puesto a salvo en Hasseirá.
27 And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.	27 En cuanto llegó tocó el cuerno en la montaña de Efraím y los israelitas bajaron con él de la montaña. El se puso al frente de ellos,
28 And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.	28 y les dijo: «Seguidme, porque Yahveh ha entregado a Moab, vuestro enemigo, en vuestras manos». Bajaron tras él, cortaron a Moab los vados del Jordán y no dejaron pasar a nadie.
29 And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.	29 Derrotaron en aquella ocasión a los de Moab; eran unos 10.000 hombres, todos fuertes y valientes, y no escapó ni uno.
30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.	30 Aquél día fue humillado Moab bajo la mano de Israel, y el país quedó tranquilo ochenta años.
31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.	31 Después de él vino Samgar, hijo de Anat. Derrotó a los filisteos, que eran seiscientos hombres, con una aguijada de bueyes; él también salvó a Israel.
