1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:	1 Simon Pierre, serviteur et Apôtre de Jésus-Christ, à ceux qui ont reçu avec nous une foi du même prix, par la justice de notre Dieu et Sauveur Jésus-Christ.
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,	2 Que la grâce et la paix vous soient multipliées par la connaissance de Dieu et du Christ Jésus notre Seigneur.
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:	3 Puisque Sa divine puissance nous a donné tout ce qui contribue à la vie et à la piété, en nous faisant connaître Celui qui nous a appelés par Sa propre gloire et par Sa vertu,
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.	4 et qu'Il nous a donné les plus grandes et les plus précieuses promesses, afin que par elles vous deveniez participants de la nature divine, en fuyant la corruption de la concupiscence qui existe dans le monde,
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;	5 vous aussi, vous apportez tous vos soins pour joindre à votre foi la vertu, à la vertu la science,
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;	6 à la science la tempérance, à la tempérance la patience, à la patience la piété;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.	7 à la piété l'amour de vos frères, à l'amour de vos frères la charité.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.	8 Car si ces choses sont en vous, et qu'elles y croissent, elles ne vous laisseront ni stériles ni infructueux dans la connaissance de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ;
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.	9 car celui en qui elles ne sont point est aveugle et marche à tâtons, ayant oublié la purification de ses anciens péchés.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:	10 C'est pourquoi, mes frères, appliquez-vous davantage à affermir par les bonnes oeuvres votre vocation et votre élection; car, en faisant cela, vous ne pécherez jamais,
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.	11 et ainsi vous sera pleinement accordée l'entrée dans le royaume éternel de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ.
12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.	12 Voilà pourquoi j'aurai soin de vous rappeler constamment ces choses, quoique vous les connaissiez et que vous soyez affermis dans la vérité présente.
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;	13 J'estime qu'il est juste, aussi longtemps que je suis dans cette tente, de vous tenir en éveil en vous les rappelant;
14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.	14 car je sais que je quitterai bientôt ma tente, comme notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ me l'a fait connaître.
15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.	15 Mais j'aurai soin que, même après mon départ, vous puissiez toujours conserver le souvenir de ces choses.
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.	16 Ce n'est pas, en effet, en suivant des fables ingénieuses que nous vous avons fait connaître la puissance et l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ; mais c'est après avoir été les témoins oculaires de Sa majesté.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.	17 Car Il reçut de Dieu le Père honneur et gloire, lorsque la gloire magnifique Lui fit entendre une voix qui disait: Celui-ci est Mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui Je Me suis complu; écoutez-Le.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.	18 Et nous avons entendu nous-mêmes cette voix qui venait du Ciel, lorsque nous étions avec Lui sur la sainte montagne.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:	19 Nous avons aussi la parole des prophètes, d'autant plus certaine, à laquelle vous faites bien de prêter attention comme à une lampe qui luit dans un lieu obscur, jusqu'à ce que le jour vienne à paraître, et que l'étoile du matin se lève dans vos coeurs;
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.	20 étant persuadés avant tout qu'aucune prophétie de l'Ecriture ne s'explique par une interprétation particulière.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.	21 Car ce n'est point par une volonté humaine que la prophétie a été autrefois apportée; mais c'est inspirés par l'Esprit-Saint que les saints hommes de Dieu ont parlé.
