1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;	1 Avendo dunque Cristo sofferto nella carne, armatevi anche voi della convinzione che chi con lui ha sofferto nella carne, ha cessato di commettere peccato,
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.	2 per vivere il resto della sua vita mortale non più secondo le passioni umane ma secondo il volere di Dio.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:	3 È già eccessivo il tempo trascorso a compiere le voglie dei pagani, per quelli che han camminato in dissolutezze, cupidigie, ubriachezze, orge, crapule e nefande idolatrie.
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:	4 Per questo restan sorpresi che voi non corriate più insieme con loro allo stesso torrente di lussuria, e vi calunniano.
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.	5 Renderanno conto a colui che è pronto a giudicare vivi e morti.
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.	6 Infatti anche ai morti fu annunciato l’evangelo appunto affinché, giudicati secondo gli uomini quanto alla carne, vivano secondo Dio quanto allo spirito.
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.	7 La fine di tutto si è avvicinata: siate dunque saggi e sobri per poter pregare.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.	8 Innanzitutto abbiate tra voi una intensa carità, perché la carità copre una moltitudine di peccati.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.	9 Praticate l’ospitalità gli uni verso gli altri, senza borbottare.
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.	10 Ciascuno agisca secondo il dono ricevuto; mettetelo a servizio gli uni degli altri, come bravi amministratori della molteplice grazia di Dio.
11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.	11 Se uno ha il dono della parola, ne usi come di oracoli di Dio; se uno ha un ministero, lo eserciti con l’energia che fornisce Dio: affinché in ogni cosa sia glorificato Iddio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, a cui spetta la gloria e il potere nei secoli dei secoli. Amen!
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:	12 Carissimi, non stupitevi più, come se vi capitasse qualcosa di strano, dell’incendio che s’è acceso in mezzo a voi per provarvi.
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.	13 Piuttosto, nella misura in cui prendete parte alle sofferenze del Cristo, rallegratevi, affinché abbiate a esultare di gioia anche quando si manifesterà la sua gloria.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.	14 Beati voi se siete oltraggiati per il nome di Cristo, perché lo spirito della gloria e di Dio riposa su di voi.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.	15 Nessuno di voi patisca perché omicida o ladro o malfattore o intrigante;
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.	16 se invece soffre perché cristiano, non si vergogni, ma glorifichi Dio per questo nome.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?	17 È il momento, infatti, in cui dalla casa di Dio sta per cominciare il giudizio. Che se prima inizia da noi, quale sarà la fine di quelli che non credono all’evangelo di Dio?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?	18 E se il giusto a stento si salva, l’empio e il peccatore dove finiranno?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.	19 Pertanto, anche quelli che patiscono secondo la volontà di Dio, rimettano la oro vita nelle mani del Creatore fedele, con zelo di bene.
