1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;	1 Voyez cette souffrance du Christ en sa chair et armez-vous de cette conviction: s’il a souffert dans la chair, c’était pour en finir avec le péché.
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.	2 Tout le temps qui vous reste à vivre dans la chair sera pour satisfaire, non des passions humaines, mais la volonté de Dieu.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:	3 Nous avons donné assez de temps à tout ce que veulent les païens: les excès, les passions, les beuveries, les orgies et le culte des idoles.
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:	4 Ils trouvent étrange que vous ne courriez plus avec eux à ce débordement de plaisirs, ils trouvent même à y redire.
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.	5 Mais ils devront rendre compte à celui qui bientôt jugera les vivants et les morts.
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.	6 Ce n’est pas sans raison que la bonne nouvelle a été portée aussi aux morts: comme humains, ils ont reçu une sentence de mort, mais grâce à l’Esprit ils vivront pour Dieu.
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.	7 La fin de tout est maintenant proche. Vivez comme des sages et consacrez vos soirées à la prière.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.	8 Avant tout, ayez les uns pour les autres un amour vrai, car l’amour fait pardonner de nombreux péchés.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.	9 Donnez-vous l’hospitalité sans récriminer.
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.	10 Chacun a reçu son propre talent: qu’il le mette au service des autres. Vous serez ainsi de bons administrateurs des dons multiples de Dieu.
11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.	11 Si l’on prend la parole, que ce soient des paroles de Dieu; si on est chargé d’un service, que ce soit avec la force de Dieu. Et Dieu sera ainsi glorifié en tout dans le Christ Jésus. À lui la gloire et la puissance pour les siècles des siècles! Amen.
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:	12 Frères bien-aimés, ne vous étonnez pas du feu qui a flambé au milieu de vous: qu’une telle épreuve survienne n’a rien d’étrange.
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.	13 Réjouissez-vous de communier aux souffrances du Christ: c’est ainsi que vous connaîtrez les grandes joies le jour où sa Gloire se montrera à découvert.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.	14 Heureux êtes-vous si l’on vous traite de tous les noms à cause du Christ, car la gloire et l’Esprit de Dieu reposent sur vous.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.	15 Il ne faudrait pas que vous soyez condamnés comme meurtriers ou voleurs ou complices de malfaiteurs.
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.	16 Mais si c’est pour être chrétiens, n’ayez pas de honte: que ce nom soit un moyen de rendre gloire à Dieu.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?	17 Le moment est venu, et le Jugement commence par les familiers de Dieu. Si nous devons y passer les premiers, que sera-ce à la fin pour ceux qui n’ont pas cru à la Bonne Nouvelle de Dieu?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?	18 Si l’homme droit s’en tire tout juste, qu’en sera-t-il du pécheur et des gens sans foi?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.	19 Si vous souffrez parce que telle est la volonté de Dieu, persévérez dans le bien et remettez vos âmes au Créateur: lui est fidèle.
