1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.	1 Portanto, é necessário guardar mais cuidadosamente as coisas que temos ouvido, para não andarmos sem rumo.
2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;	2 Porque, se a palavra anunciada pelos anjos ficou firme, e toda a prevaricação e desobediência recebeu a justa retribuição que merecia,
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;	3 como escaparemos nós (ao castigo de Deus), se desprezarmos tão grande salvação, a qual, tendo começado a ser anunciada pelo Senhor, foi depois confirmada entre nós pelos que a ouviram (diretamente dele),
4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?	4 comprovando Deus o seu testemunho por meio de sinais, maravilhas, toda a espécie de milagres e dons do Espirito Santo, distribuídos segundo a sua vontade?
5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.	5 Com efeito, não foi aos anjos (mas a Cristo) que Deus submeteu o mundo futuro, de que falamos (que é a Igreja).
6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?	6 Ora alguém deu testemunho, em certo lugar, dizendo: Que é o homem para que te lembres dele, ou o filho do homem para que o visites ?
7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:	7 Tu o fizeste, por um pouco de tempo, inferior aos anjos; tu o coroaste de glória e de honra, e o constituíste sobre as obras das tuas mãos.
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.	8 Tu puseste todas as coisas sob seus pés (Ps. 8, 5-7). Ora, sujeitando-lhe todas as coisas, nada deixou que lhe não ficasse sujeito. E contudo nós agora não vemos ainda que lhe esteja sujeito tudo.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.	9 Mas, aquele Jesus, que por um pouco de tempo foi feito inferior aos anjos, nós o vemos, pela paixão da morte, coroado de glória e de honra, para que, pela graça de Deus, sofresse a morte por todos.
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.	10 De facto, convinha que aquele, para quem e por quem são todas as coisas, querendo levar muitos filhos à glória, aperfeiçoasse pelos sofrimentos o autor da salvação deles.
11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,	11 Porque o santificador e os santificados vêm todos de um só. Por esta causa, (Jesus) não se envergonha de lhes chamar irmãos, dizendo:
12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.	12 Anunciarei o teu nome aos meus irmãos; louvar-to-ei no meio da assembleia (Ps. 21, 23).
13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.	13 E outra vez: Eu confiarei nele (Is. 8, 17). E de novo: Eis-me aqui, eu e os filhos, que Deus me deu (Is. 8, 18).
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;	14 Por isso, visto que os filhos participaram da carne e do sangue, ele também participou igualmente das mesmas coisas, a fim de destruir pela morte aquele que tinha o império da morte, isto é, o demônio,
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.	15 e para livrar aqueles que, pelo temor da morte, estavam em escravidão, toda a vida.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.	16 Realmente em nenhum lugar (da Escritura se lê que) ele vem em auxílio dos anjos (rebeldes), mas vem em auxílio da descendência de Abraão.
17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.	17 Daí vem que ele deveu em tudo ser semelhante a seus irmãos, a fim de ser diante de Deus um pontífice misericordioso e fiel (no seu ministério), para expiar os pecados do povo.
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.	18 Por isso, porque ele mesmo sofreu e foi tentado, é que pode socorrer aqueles que são tentados.
