1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,	1 Por isso nós, também, estando cercados por uma tão grande nuvem de testemunhas, deixando todo o peso que nos detém e o pecado que nos envolve, corramos com paciência na carreira que nos é proposta,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.	2 pondo os olhos no autor e consumador da fé, Jesus, o qual, tendo-lhe sido proposto gozo, sofreu a cruz, não fazendo caso da ignomínia, e está sentado à direita do trono de Deus.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.	3 Considerai, pois, aquele que sofreu tal contradição dos pecadores contra si, e não vos deixareis cair no desânimo.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.	4 Ainda não resististes até ao (derramento do) sangue, combatendo contra o pecado,
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:	5 e estais esquecidos daquela exortação, que vos é dirigida (por Deus), como a filhos: Meu filho, não desprezes o castigo do Senhor, nem desanimes, quando por ele és repreendido,
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.	6 porque o Senhor corrige aquele que ama, e castiga todo aquele que reconhece por seu filho (Pv. 3, 11-12).
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?	7 E para vossa emenda que sofreis provação. Deus trata-vos como filhos. E qual é o filho a quem seu pai não corrige?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.	8 Se, porém, estais isentos do castigo, do qual todos são participantes, então sois bastardos, e não verdadeiros filhos.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?	9 Além disso, visto que nossos pais, segundo a carne, nos castigavam, e nós os respeitávamos, quanto mais não devemos ser obedientes ao Pai dos espíritos para ter a vida?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.	10 E aqueles castigavam-nos por um período de poucos dias, como bem lhes parecia, este, porém, (castiga-nos) para nosso bem, para nos tornar participantes da sua santidade.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.	11 Na verdade toda a correção no presente não parece um motivo de gozo, mas de tristeza; porém, depois dará frutos de paz e de justiça aos que por ela foram exercitados,
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;	12 Por isso levantai as vossas mãos remissas e os vossos joelhos vacilantes (Is. 35, 3);
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.	13 dirigi os vossos passos pelo caminho direito, para que o que manqueja (na fé), não se desvie, antes porém seja sanado.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:	14 Buscai a paz com todos e a santidade, sem a qual ninguém verá o Senhor;
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;	15 Atendei a que ninguém falte à graça de Deus, a que nenhuma raiz amarga brotando para fora, sirva de embaraço (Dt. 29, 17) e por ela sejam muitos contaminados.
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.	16 Que não haja nenhum impudico ou profanador, como Esaú, o qual, por uma iguaria, vendeu a sua primogenitura.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.	17 Sabei que, desejando ele ainda depois herdar a bênção (paterna), foi rejeitado, porque não lhe foi possível fazer com que (seu pai) mudasse de resolução, posto que lho pedisse com lágrimas.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,	18 Em verdade não vos aproximastes de uma montanha palpável, nem de um fogo ardente, nem de nuvens sombrias, nem de trevas, nem da tempestade,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:	19 nem do som da trombeta, nem daquela voz tão retumbante que os que a ouviram, suplicaram que não se lhes falasse mais.
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:	20 De facto, não podiam suportar esta intimação: Se mesmo um animal tocar a montanha, será apedrejado (Ex. 19,121).
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)	21 Era tão terrível o que se via, que Moisés disse: Eu estou aterrado e a tremer (Dt. 9,19).
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,	22 Vós, porém, aproximastes-vos da montanha de Sião e da cidade do Deus vivo, da Jerusalém celeste e da multidão de muitos milhares de anjos,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,	23 da assembleia dos primogênitos, que estão inscritos nos céus, e de Deus, juiz de todos, e dos espíritos dos justos perfeitos,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.	24 e de Jesus, mediador da nova aliança, e do sangue purificador, que fala melhor que o de Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:	25 Vede, não recuseis ouvir aquele que fala. Porque, se não escaparam aqueles que recusaram ouvir o que publicava os seus oráculos sobre a terra, muito menos nós, se voltarmos as costas ao que nos fala do céu,
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.	26 esse cuja voz abalou então a terra, mas que agora faz uma promessa, dizendo: Ainda uma vez, e abalarei não só a terra, mas também o céu (Ag. 2, 6).
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.	27 Ora quando diz: Ainda uma vez, declara que as coisas abaladas passarão, por serem criaturas, para que permaneçam as que são inabaláveis.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:	28 Portanto, recebendo nós um reino inabalável, mostremo-nos reconhecidos e prestemos a Deus um culto que lhe seja agradável, com reverência e temor.
29 For our God is a consuming fire.	29 Em realidade, o nosso Deus é um fogo devorador (Dt. 4, 24).
